Fantastic year for fighting games! MK1 didn't make it cause I haven't touched it in a little while and rn I'm really getting into Granblue Versus.

Trails to Azure almost made it, only like an hour behind MK11. And Persona 5 in my top 5 for the second year in a row because I had only played half the game last year. God, that game is ridiculously long lol.

Really shows the Deck effect.

Despite lower playtime on P3P I had double the sessions compared to the big M/KB only stuff heh.

Atlus games are just too good on handheld. I can't wait for Metaphor next year.

Also they really need to bring over SMTIV and SMTV to Steam asap.

I'm off to spend the holidays with the family so I'm leaving my annual key dump in the giveaways thread, I hope I didn't get anything wrong because it was a pain in the ass to put in all the keys:

Community - Giveaways!

Most of it is bundle stuff but there are some gems out there, so if you see something you like, go for it.

Happy holidays to everyone, glad to be here.

Out of the 170 games I "played", only the ones in the 2nd image I would consider games that I've played, got a new CPU this year so I installed and tested alot of games. xd

Missing from that list, 2 games that I played a bunch that I don't have on Steam:
  • Final Fantasy XIV, the game I played the most this year;
  • Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst, played around 85~ish hours earlier this year.

Komodo is having a sale on Steam right now and part of the proceeds will go to victims of the Maui fire that happened earlier this year. This sale will be very short and will end before the Steam Winter sale. After that the money will go to the publishers as usual.

Great year for RPGs, both Western and Japanese.

Pretty impressive, given how I played most of BG3 on my regular PC, not the Deck, and having a portable device just makes it so much easier to go for a few quick sessions, thus it has 50% there, despite only around 35% in sheer playtime. Love my Deck, and will deffo get the OLED once I saved enough for my big PC upgrade next year.

I'm doing some cleaning and I'm currently going through my physical collection of Switch games. I have a very unhealthy amount of Switch games despite never really using the device, I keep saying that I will eventually play my Switch games via emulation or something like that when I end up upgrading my PC at some point or maybe when I get a Steam Deck OLED.

I have a minimum of 100 physical Switch games at my house. I don't know the full count since I still have some sealed in their Collectors Edition Box. I also made the mistake of buying multiple copies of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom CE and Fire Emblem Engage (I have not really heard amazing things about Engage so I'm guessing that the series has now "peaked" in popularity and the popularity will not further increase but rather stay about the same if not not lowered just a bit.

It's kinda mad how many VNs don't seem to work out of the box on Steam Deck from what I've noticed
Most of them do, the only one I wasn't able to run so far to my satisfaction is The Fruit of Grisaia.
A lot of them requires some tinkering not to crash randomly or have videos playing, true. But most work.

Dota 2 makes it in there just because of the time spent watching The International. Steam Deck carried me through the first half of the year until June when I got a new computer. The last half of the year was stacked since that's where all of my top played games come from.

A lot of Baldur's Gate III was played.

I was still dual-booting earlier this year, but it'll probably be all Linux (including Steam Deck) next year.

I've yet to permanently setup my Index since I moved and it shows. I'm hoping for the Deckard in 2024 to solve the SteamVR Linux issues and for the convenience of wireless.

Details from the insomniac ransomware attack are starting to come out. Unfortunately it has a lot of very personal info that I don't want to see or know about, stuff like employee passports and things like that. But it also has info on a lot of game stuff including many Wolverine details and story stuff as well as some Ratchet info. I think this bit will interest people here

Rift Apart PC port was estimated to cost $2.6m
The port took under 5 months to do
Insomniac figured they'd get 800k sales and make $20m profit (haven't found how much it ended up)
Ports that cost <$30m just need an email approval from Sony to get funded

It's interesting seeing what games people are actually playing, especially considering what games I remember being the biggest topics of discussion throughout the year.

The tags are great:
Valheim: "You used your workbench a whole lot." Yes, yes I did.
Brotato: "Until 2023 there was a shuriken-throwing potato sized hole in our hearts." Accurate, although I got mad at this game the most.
Dark Souls III: "Were you working on your God Run?": No, just yet another playthrough since I double dipped on Steam.

Mine is really affected by the Deck -- I wouldn't have finished Loop Hero or gotten as far in Brotato, Boneraiser Minions, or Halls of Torment. Or picked up Dead Cells again. Thanks, Steam Deck!

Sales data of PS titles on Steam leaked. (as of around Feb 2023, does not include GOG or EGS sales)

Horizon Zero Dawn - 3.3M
God Of War - 2.5m
Days Gone - 1.7m (damn lol)
Spider-Man Remastered - 1.3m
Uncharted - 483.2k
Miles Morales - 450.2K
Sackboy - 62.9k. (deserved better)

Spider-Man 2, 3 and Wolverine have PC ports planned as well apparently. I mean, obviously, but its nice to know Sony doesn't plan to stop their ports anytime soon if we're getting info for a port that isnt gonna come until 20230.

the year in review for steam for 2023 inadvertently or intentionally ruined the 2022 one because the 2022 steam in review page is now just a carbon copy of the 2023 page. It used to have stats/dialogue saying "You're in the top 0.05% of players with your game time!" now it doesn't say any of that stuff and it didn't show game achievements earned

I only really noticed because I laughed at it since it reminded me of an Only Fan's ad but it's still kind of stupid
