Reached chapter 3. Taking my time because I can't play the game 12 hours a day like the people that finished everything last week :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

The story has been really good honestly, I like the lower stakes feeling and how they integrated the separate faction stories together, it feels natural and engaging, always keeping a hook to know more but giving you full fledged experiences where you can spend quite some time playing with the various characters.
The pacing has also been... mostly good after the hours long tutorial where you don't do much in chapter 1. ZZZ is a lot less loquacious than Genshin and HSR, the cut scenes are lovely and so are the motion comic segments. Now, there's still some filler when you're "investigating" in the city, and that can be pretty dull and sometimes rife with backtracking (even with the easy fast travel), plus the dialogue between Wise and Belle is pretty bad most of the time, it just repeats and isn't voice acted...

It's still bogged down a bit by the TV part, which makes more sense in some places like with the cops, but the missions are still very long and very simplistic, playing a Bomberman ersatz or doing the most basic switch puzzles for 20 minutes in a row... very meh. Plus you can't skip animations there, only fast forward and there's an awful lot of needed text and voice acting making it even slower.
And if you missed something and have to replay the entire mission, it hurts. A lot.
It's not nearly as much of a problem for non story modes, but it's still not particularly interesting paradigms, and the fact that it's always the same environment every time, no matter what you do makes it a lot less engaging than it could have been with more flair, odd when you consider that the rest of the game is so stylished. Although it also applies for combat arenas, playing for many hours in samey and bland construction areas and train stations under repair is pretty painful...

I'm glad that combat definitely opens up and asks of you to at least understand the bare minimum of your teams, longer rally commissions, longer hollow zero areas and bosses are all quite good.
But now the gear grind is here, and at a glance it's probably not as horrible as the other Hoyo games, but still. Hard to judge how long it takes to get characters up to speed - probably less than HSR since a lot of them will not need too many skill upgrades if they're kept as support, there's no awful speed tuning and the 4+2 pieces is far more flexible, but that one is wait&see.

I've been noodling about, taking my time, not upgrading too much, i am a shade away from ik20 and was given the Hollow Zero initiation. Not too bad until one of those armoured lizard beasties roughed me up a bit and the final enemy was some super-quick, teleporty sword bastard who wrecked me.

So in a mood i went and had a think and a bit of an upgrade session and now i've been testing a team of Grace, Anby and Nicole and when they get into the swing of things they work well together so i'm going to give Hollow Zero another go with this team.

Currently i have:
Grace
Corin
Nicole
Anby
Lucy
Soukaku
Billy
Lycaon
Ben

Still have:
20 Encrypted Master Tapes
10 Master Tapes

I'll probably save them unless i get the urge to try for Ellen or Piper or Anton or Neko lol

For the master tapes, you may well spend them on the standard banner, there's not much reason to keep them maybe you'll get something good? Even a fitting weapon on a support char can make a huge difference.

The encrypted ones that's fair, I'm torn on who to get...

Got to the bit where i can select which S Rank Bangboo to pull and chose Plugboo because i'm running a 'leccy team at the moment, did a 10 pull as i had a ton of Boupons and got
2 x S Plugboo
1 x A Sumoboo
1 x A Bagboo

( and a bunch of W-Engines )

Changed my preferred Bangboo to Amillion as i like Gentle House/Cunning Hares.
Then i'm gonna go for Penguinboo and Sharkboo because VTubers lol

oh and the Hollow Zero beastie that gave me a kicking the first time got melted to my Grace, Anby, Nicole team. Get wrecked, ya cheap dipshit!

Reached the point where I have to wait to do dailies for IK level, for the 34 one I had loads of side quests and random events to fill it up, but now for 36 it won't be enough...
At least we have the event going now.

Haven't gotten much beyond building my team, not sure quite to do for the second team that would need another DPS... Zhu Yuan can't come soon enough.

Requiring account level 30 for the first ever event in the game only 10 days after release is a bit lame :disappointed-face:

I'm really digging the text messaging interactions, the character personalities really shine through.

Almost level 36, just a bit more before I can continue the story again... Got a Lycaon/Soukaku/Soldier 11 team at 40 (straight 7s for skills), with Ellen as a sub for Ice missions.

My second team is problematic, if I can just get Zhu Yuan I can roll with her, Anby, and Nicole for an Ether Electro team. I dont want to have Ellen run the second squad as I need some elemental variety... I figure if I can get to that, physical will be my only real hole, which I can cover with Piper as a cope option.

Based on who you have, I strongly recommend you build around a Lycaon/Soukaku team. Lycaon is an absolutely amazing character - high stun output, short strings and fast acting counters. Soukaku is basically a Benny analogue (from Genshin Impact).

When you have those two, the flowchart is simple: lead off with Lycaon and scrap until you get a stun, switch off to Soukaku to proc Fly the Flag (which gives a beefy attack bonus for 12 seconds) and another stun, then tag in your DPS of choice depending on the element you need, and wail away. Easy!

Also, as Line said, there is no reason to ever save standard banner tapes. Just use them as soon as you get them, I say.

Thanks for the Lycoan/Soukaku+Element-DPS team recommendation! I'll get to work on it.
I am at a stage where i was wondering how i could build a core team or two and then have some "specialists" to rotate in when required.

Most of the team requests i've seen don't have the members i want and i realised that i need to enhance my Ice & Fire team members to cope with things coming up. My electric team is pretty good at the moment so i need to focus on flexibility for a bit.

I'm being stingy with my Encrypted (rainbow) tapes, using the Master (monochrome) tapes when i get them and keeping my Boupons at around 30. I also have 900k+ dennies but i'm sure as i climb levels that it'll be used up in no time :)

Yup, it sounds like youre on the right track then. Good work!

My present rule of thumb:
Slot 1 I use for somebody who can actually fight good (i.e. characters with quick animations who can easily cancel their strings into a dodge), ideally a stunner (Lycaon, Anby, even Nekomata to a certain extent). Whoever is your frontman has to deal with fully mobile enemies, so flexibility is a plus.

Slot 2 is for someone who applies an effect (Soukaku, Rina, Nicole, etc). Their job is to set up the DPS.

Slot 3 is for That Dude who deals a lot of damage (Soldier 11, Ellen Joe, etc) - mobility isn't as important here, as you're going to be beating on an already stunned enemy.

This may change as the meta evolves of course, but this setup hasnt steered me wrong yet!

Reached soft pity on the standard banner, got The Brimstone, Soldier 11's signature... I still don't have her, but it's a very generic weapon that only increases more and more ATK... it's probably good?
In ZZZ the ATK bonuses are multiplicative and not additive like in Genshin, so it can scale like crazy... no idea what to do with it though, it might be good on Zhu Yuan.

It's odd that A rank weapons can be signatures for A rank characters, but at least it makes them a lot of them the very obvious best in slot, with little competition, even with S ranks. There's no way that I'll replace Anton's weapon anytime soon.

Im thinking Zhu Yuan wants the anomaly W-engine from the BP, the one with the lips? Thats what im planning on using.

You sent me checking because I wondered if I was confusing it with the beta, but no, Zhu Yuan is indeed an attack character... so no anomaly W engine for her... :thinking-face:

...Christ, youre right! Attack ether....

I dodged a bullet there, I was about to redeem the Anomaly engine. 😥 Thanks for pointing this out, seriously!

Just cleared the Snake minigame, grabbed all the loot in under 30 minutes, managed 3 wins. It's very intense, the Chinese players are super aggro lol.

If that Vampire Survivors clone inside ZZZ ends up being a thing I'll be super screwed! Dang arcade games!

I didn't find the snake PvP very fun. The base minigame is already not very well done in ZZZ, it's done in an extremely basic and limited form... not a fan of the arcade games. At least it's short and you don't need to win.

I've started building my characters for real this time... I did not miss the gear grind in hoyo games. Especially early when you really don't have that many ressources.
I'm still torn on who to go for with Zhu Yuan... but I guess it will be Nicole since she literally doesn't have anyone else for her crit passive...

I've been wanting to share my thoughts about the game for a while now but I was not able to over the last week or so and now it seems too late to share 'first impressions', so I'll just do a short and quick version of it.

The art of the game is impeccable, as is to be expected from mihoyo. They nailed the 90s(?) aesthetic they were going for in the game art and music. Some of it is not really to my taste but I can see they achieved what they were trying to achieve. My favorite part of the game is 6th street and how they've made it out as such a cozy little neighbourhood. The playable areas are really small though. I understand it's because the game has to run on mobile phones as well but a load screen just for the parking lot? And for the video rental store? From the company that makes seamless maps in Genshin?

I'm ambivalent about the gameplay. The TV part is just not great, no matter how many new gimmicks they keep adding in every other mission. It's almost always linear with near zero puzzle solving and it can get really slow at times because of all the interruptions. Last night I was doing the Nekomata agent story and I swear the game interrupts the TV section after every 4 moves you make. There's always some new dialog choice popping up that stops your progress. They should design it better so that a player can actually play more than 15 seconds before being interrupted again.

This is actually a problem with the UI at large. It's very flashy but it also slows down the game a lot. If you're designing a live service game and you have some action that your players will repeat a million times, there should be zero friction in that action. Make it fast and snappy no matter how big or small that action is. So many times you see in other games where they have some cool animation or transition but it becomes tedious if you have to repeat it over and over. A small example in this game is when you're inside the video store and you go to the HDD room... you have to get that bangboo to open the door so you can go inside the room. It's a simple button press and the animation only stops you for a second but you will do that action a billion times while playing the game and it just slows you down. They should either get the bangboo to open the door when you're close or just have the door open in the first place. The game is filled with UI transitions that look cool but slow down the process.

The combat is fun and flashy but even that has a caveat for me. I'm not particularly skilled at these kinds of games and usually just button mash my way through games like DMC. You can still button mash through this game's missions on easy difficulty like I've been doing but clearly that won't be the case in the future. You'll need to understand each character's attack patterns and timings and also build teams with correct elements and bangboos. The margin of error is tighter because you only have 3 team members. In Star Rail you could reach a point where your team is powerful enough that you can ignore elemental weaknesses entirely for all content except maybe the very hardest MOC/PF stages. Maybe that will be true in the future for this game as well but for now it feels like team composition is more important than it ever was in Star Rail and a level of skill will be required for the combat which I'm not sure if I'll reach. Many of the combat missions have timers for best rewards. Even ascending your account level requires you to collect a certain number of those yellow and purple balls while completing missions and while it hasn't been a problem so far, all this does mean the game requires a certain level of performance from the player to continue through it.

And so, I enjoy the low stakes part of the game the most. Sixth Street is the best place in the game and I really like roaming around and finding new quests to do. I wish Lumina Square and that construction site were a little more detailed and had more depth.

The combat parts of the game are where I'm getting lost. I'm not sure what team to build or to plan towards. Currently I'm using Soldier 11 who I got from the beginner banner along with Anby and Nicole. No elemental synergy at all. I have Lucy so I'm wondering if I should build her to support Soldier 11. With limited resources at the start of the game I don't want to end up leveling a 'wrong'/bad character. I did about 45 pulls on Ellen's banner and didn't get her and I'm not sure if I should continue to try and get her. Everyone got Soukaku for free so that would be a team for her, although I've heard you should have that Lycaon guy for her best team. I just met the next character in the game (lightning cop with guns, forgot her name) and I guess I could pair her with Anby so maybe I should wait for her. I have no idea what to do about team building and which characters to try and pull for and it's kind of bothering me.

I'm not even sure if I want to stick to this game beyond doing all the unique story content and side missions. It's definitely fun enough to finish all the bespoke content but I'm not sure it's interesting enough to engage in the daily grind. Although I really do appreciate that the daily 60 primogem thingies can be had by just running around Sixth Street without having to expend energy.

One last thing; despite playing 2 other mihoyo games, I still find myself getting confused with all the names for the different gameplay modes and upgrade materials and crafting materials and such. What a domain is in Genshin or calyx in Star Rail is god knows what in this game. I know there are modes that mimic the SU and MOC from Star Rail. I don't know what that mode is that requires 7 bounties per week. I don't understand what 'pressure' is in the context of the hollows. It really feels like I'm bumbling my way through the game.

Anyway that's the 'short and quick' version of my thoughts. If you're on EU please add me - 1500429896.

And please, someone help me decide what character to pull for. I have another 75 tickets so I can easily get to pity and maybe get Ellen or should I save for the police woman? I don't know which Bangboo to pull for and that's apparently dependent on which team you're building which I can't decide. I don't know what to do with this game.

Hmm. I agree with a lot of what you say spindoctor , especially the map, it makes no sense that it's this chopped off and so full of loadings and unneeded button presses. The parking lot is just incomprehensible to me.

The TV minigame... it's a tough sell. They do manage to make some interesting things with it like the bangboo tournament, but that's far and few between. At best it's a Bomberman wannabe that's just not very good, and as you said, endless interruptions and not being able to truly skip animations, while almost everything of value is a tiny text box in the top right? It's bad.
The investigation missions in chapter 3 are I think the worst part of the game, and simply dreadful. Almost no actual TV "gameplay", having to find clues on bodies, or footprints... they can do that in 3D. They actually do, in many side quests. But no, here it's through the TVs... which do nothing to represent any of that, it's all in text form anyway and you're not actually investigating anything. The footprints leading away from the body... are on the body. Makes no sense.
It's two levels removed from what they do in Genshin or HSR, for no reason, and not unlike the "thought association" in Genshin in Sumeru, they still tell you the answer if you mess up twice...

Also feels the same thing for the UI, which in general is surprisingly messy. Much more so than their other games, like at a glance - you can't tell what level your character's W-engine is, until three clicks in. It's not a lot of course, but extra clicks everywhere, all the time, add up.

Although for game modes, you have the Compendium on F2 (or equivalent button), with "Training" for all the repeatable grinds that consume stamina, and "Challenges" for the weekly gated ones that do not. That's not too bad, and a bit more practical than Genshin and HSR on that point with stamina usage and time gate being more inconsistent.
For comparison, Notorious Hunts are weekly bosses for character "talents" (called Core passives here, on top of the various skill levels).
Shiyu Defense is Memory of Chaos/Spiral Abyss.
Hollow Zero is simulated Universe, and Pressure is gained when you interact with any special tile that starts an event in it, with buffs and debuffs potentially changing that to every step taken or none, etc. So if you don't want to rack up too many Corruption debuffs, avoid interacting with special tiles, and there are ways to reduce it but most of it unlocks later on.
Also Corruptions can be a run ender, like when you stack them and you can't daze enemies anymore? That's horrendous for most builds.

The team building... I think it's where the game actually shines. But it's also not making it easy for new players, nor the ones that don't have a very firm grasp on mechanics... that are not usually so pronounced in an action game where you want to go unba bunga.
They probably need to explain team archetypes a bit more.
But in general, there's two simple styles before you go into specifics:
  • DPS, stun, support team. You mostly use your stun char until the enemy is down, then switch to your DPS to do most of the damage. Of course... there's still switches, assists, buffs and debuffs to play with... but it's the basics. Like Lycaon stuns > Soukaku buffs > Ellen DPSs.
  • Anomaly teams which focuses on the build up of anomaly (the element they attack with), it's a bit like Genshin reactions, like building up Burn... until you well, Burn enemies. Also like Genshin there's some synergy but more simplistic: if the enemy burns, you can use another element like electric that inflicts Shock to override the previous element and cause "Disorder" for a large chunk of damage.

So in your situation (you only have Soldier 11 as S rank?), you could make a team like Anby as stun, Lucy as support, Soldier 11 as DPS. You have the base for a strong Fire team with Solider 11, so I can't imagine Rocketboo being a bad idea to get. You also get a free Ben as a Fire/Defense char, he could replace Anby in a lot of situations.

There's both elemental synergy and faction synergy (which you have to click on characters to know...) to activate "Additional abilities" that are on the same panel as Core passives, in skills.
It gives some leeway since you don't need the same element for all three, but some factions are easier to access than others... and Zhu Yuan will have no one at all but Nicole.
But without considering getting anyone else at all right now, that seems like two sensible teams: Soldier 11/Lucy/Anby... with Ben replacing Anby when you can make a Zhu Yuan/Nicole/Anby team.
You could also go for Ellen/Soukaku/Anby, but you lose on synergies there, it's not ideal. Of course if you get any other S rank character, teams open up... or you could also build teams around other DPS, like Anton, Piper or Corrin if you like them. They have their options, if you dig them.

Zhu Yuan doesn't have Element Synergy, she has Faction or Support synergy.

Thanks for the super informative post Line. Especially the parts about the different game modes and team building. Can always count on you guys to help out when my eyes start glazing over in these games. I did know some of that info but a lot of it is news to me. I think one reason I'm a bit below water in this game is because I'm not mentally committing to actually playing it long term and understanding everything that needs to be understood.

As for S-ranks, yeah, Soldier 11 was my only S-rank until about 15 minutes ago. Just logged in to play that multiplayer snake event and then I was wondering what else to do. Started pulling on Ellen's banner with single tickets and got Rina after 4 pulls. This means I've lost the 50-50 and I have 73 tickets left. I can almost certainly guarantee Ellen before her banner ends. Zhu Yuan is definitely guaranteed if I don't go for Ellen.

So now I'm wondering what are the new calculations for my team building...

I'm honestly not super interested in setting up 2 teams right now. Resources are scarce to start with in the game and I'm not close to reaching the 2-team game modes nor am I particularly interested in them because of my lack of git gud ability. So if I wanted just one team, should I try and get Ellen so that she can get the Victoria Housekeeping buff with Rina? Or should I get Zhu Yuan and set up a full lightning team with her, Anby and Rina? Or is there some other combo that would work better? I think Soukaku would probably still be a better support for Ellen and maybe Nicole is a better support for Zhu Yuan so I don't know, maybe I just pulled a dud with Rina :\

I'm also 25 pulls away from pity on the standard banner and I'll get there eventually but standard pulls have dried up so it'll take a while to get my next S-rank from there.

Rina was my first S rank, and she's been glued to my teams ever since. Literally never moved her. :blobnerd:
She's an absolutely amazing support with quite a bit of damage on her own and a lot of buffs for the team in form of Penetration%... but also extending the duration of Shock, which I don't think you can anything with except if you start using Anton.

But indeed, that opens up Ellen as a very viable DPS, though you wouldn't use Soukaku then (you'd need Anby as stun, or else you're going to struggle against some enemies).
Same team with Zhu Yuan, also.
Honestly it depends on who you like more, I find Ellen to be harder to play in general.

Now if you like Soldier 11, I think I'd build Ben with her, she really wants another Fire team mate (her element synergy passive is +10% fire, and an extra +22.5% when the enemy is stunned, that's an awful lot of damage - plus Ben comes with shields and a + 16% Crit chance, he's certainly not bad as a comfort pick) and that frees Anby for other purposes (in this situation, you'd be free to do Zhu Yuan/Anby/Nicole or Rina - in both cases you'd get the much needed synergy).

Well after going through your post and understanding the game modes, I spent a bit of time yesterday doing all the weekly stuff that was going to reset today. Unlocked some new Hollow Zero levels and I still don't understand why they think we're going to repeat Hollow Zero 7 times per week to finish up all those bounties. I'm definitely not doing that. Did the Spiral Abyss mode till level 5. Did the weekly bosses. Completed 2 levels of the compendium challenges. It was quite productive and I ended up with over a thousand primogems and a few standard banner tickets. Those standard banner tickets gave me... a Rina eidolon (or cinema tape whatever). So I guess the game really does want me to build her.

I'm thinking of skipping Ellen and getting Zhu Yuan. Then I'll have a team with Anby as the stun, Nicole or Rina as support and Zhu Yuan or Soldier 11 as dps depending on what is needed. Can split off into a second team when I get a fire stunner like Koleda or some new character.

I just met Victoria Housekeeping in the story. It went like this... get to account level 34 -> do one quest with this new crew -> get to account level 36. I've never liked this forced account level grinding and never understood why they make it so. In past games it was at least spread out so you wouldn't have to do it back to back. I'm quite close to 36 and I have 2 full agent stories to do along with a bunch of commissions so it won't be hard but I just don't like it.

Rina's C1 is stupidly strong, 30% more Penetration buff, and a 5.5s duration for her little pets when you assist is maybe the strongest C1 in the game.
For stunners, you could target Ben, since he will be on Zhu Yuan's banner too, getting his cinemas (or mindscapes? Not sure what term the community uses, but using "C" is easier since it's the same term as Genshin) should not be hard.

Now for the timegates.... that's pretty typical Hoyoverse, they actually relaxed those in Genshin, early on you had to do a lot more before you could continue the story in Li Yue (and it was even worse with events and modes being locked until AR20 and not AR12 like it is now).
It was even weirder in HSR in 1.0 as you ended the story in what is now retconned side quests.
At least ZZZ 1.0 doesn't end on a cliffhanger I suppose...

I'm barely playing this at the moment. I typically just login for long enough to do my errands(ie: 2 minutes) and occasionally I'll spend my stamina at the VR place. This past weekend, I did make some progress on the story(I basically finished the Public Security line, I think), and played some Snake, and did one of the event missions. I'm at IK level 33, I think?

I was considering going for Zhu Yuan, but I didn't realize it was only launch A-tiers on her banner, so I'll probably just keep saving for when there is a S-tier that I actually want.

It's only the second banner of the game so it was unlikely that they were going to introduce a brand new 4 star. Her banner has Nicole who is good for her team and they threw in Ben so that you can feel regret every time he pops up :p

What level are you able to start farming 5 star relics? I did the third notorious hunt today and it was rough with my 3 star geared team. Couldn't even finish the fight within 5 minutes.

Seems we'll only get one new A-tier in 1.1, and even then, on one banner. Seem like it will be how it goes for the foreseeable future.
And it's not really a spoiler I don't think, but we get the rest of the NEPS next patch, they've teased them already. Qingyi, Jane Doe and Seth (the A rank, probably).

So I pulled for Zhu Yuan, went about as badly as I expected. Had to go to pity to get... Rina C1. At least it's good, but I want more characters...
And then another pity to get her... got a bunch of random stuff too, some Anby(ies?), a Corrin, a Lucy and a Billy... the early standard S rank luck really was a fluke.
But I got her Resonaboo in 20 pulls I suppose...

You unlock the S rank discs (relics) after IK35, and I've seen recommend often to actually start farming for them then, as you get 1 S rank +1 extra at 50% chance at that level. Which is a lot faster than Genshin and HSR, and since the next level for material stages is just 40, you may as well prepare some discs while waiting a bit to farm character mats more efficiently.

76 pulls to get her

I was hoping to throw 20 pulls on her weapon banner if I got her early but now I only have 20 left so probably not worth it. Got a bunch of Nicoles, Bens and some others as well while pulling. I don't have a good weapon for her now so I'm thinking I might buy the battle pass if I'm able to complete it. Apparently the battle pass weapon is decent for her, and also having an influx of resources early on will make building characters easier. How far along are you guys in the battle pass anyway? I'm around level 38 or so right now. Think I should be able to get to 50 by the time the patch ends.

Also, do you guy craft A-rank weapons from that shop? That's another mechanic I've not quite figured out.

Ok I'm IK37 or so. Guess it's time to start farming relics too. Ugh.

I'm 41 in the BP, and I haven't done the weeklies yet (plus there's a new event objective), so I think I will reach 50 by the end of the week... it's not very hard, probably even less so than the other Hoyoverse games.

For crafting purposes, I did make a W-engine for my Koleda, some of them are good... and there's some achievements for crafting so I guess it's worth something? I don't think you can really do anything else with the weapon tokens you get on bosses...
I have no idea what they're doing with the UI in that though, some A ranks are on the top, some are on the bottom of the list, there's two of each role... except support which has only one...? :huhblob:
It seems Starlight Engine, Slice of time and Steam oven are good, but I guess it depends on your char...

I do wonder what the rarity will end up being for some, because that things have changed multiple times since beta.
Seth's animations certainly look way more S rank than Qingyi's...

I really wanted Nicole's signature W-engine, and Zhu Yuan's free rolls allowed me to reached standard A rank pity and it gave me... Anton C7 :notlikethisblob:

So I rolled once on the weapon banner. And I got her signature.

Well. After initially not liking how she played I watched Guoba's vid on her and did some demo-ing in the trial and it turns out I actually find her playstyle interesting when I know what to do. So...

That was rough. I'm almost broke now, lol. Counteracting the Ellen luck, I guess.
I got C/M6 Nicole and Ben out of the pulls as well though, so yay for that.

But I'm absolutely drowning in characters to build now and have absolutely not enough ressources. Oof. I still hate that mid-game period in all Hoyo games. Just gotta tough it out, I guess.

Zhu Yuan is definitely a bit on the combo heavy side, but her bullet system is largely ignored when you know how she works, the stacks are easy enough to keep for your big triple shot. I find her more comfy than Ellen.

The ressource starvation is real though. Especially since we're right in time to build two teams, which is... challenging. At least ZY+Nicole is a pretty devastating combo, but my Koleda is nowhere close to being ready...
I tried the ether-weak notorious hunt boss at lvl50 since the lvl40 version I can kill in less than 2mins now. Yeah no. I actually wiped on it :astonished-face: (mayyybe it's also because it's jumping all over the place and the camera gets stuck on the arena walls...).
I'll see how it goes by the end of the week, otherwise the lower level is not that bad rewards wise, it's still 1 boss mat and just a tiny bit less of the shop currency (and some disc stuff, but that's a lot less important).

Speaking of weaknesses, taking a look at Hollow Zero... from the mid game to the later game stages, there is not one stage where the enemies aren't weak to ether, in all areas.
Methinks there's some favouritism. :thinking-face:

I think her special dash attack that you can weave in between basics by pressing left or right to alter her combo string is super interesting.
  • If you do it after BA1 you can skip ahead to BA3 right away
  • after BA3 it will repeat BA3 again trapping you in an infinite loop that will never give you stacks cause only BA4 and BA5 give them (seems like an anti-mashing trap, and of course this is probably why I didn't like her in her story section cause I'm sure I did this lol)
  • after BA5 it skips right to BA3 again, letting you reach the stack-providing basics faster
  • after Charged BA3 it skips right to BA3 again (the most powerful attack consuming 3 stacks)

And yeah about building 2 teams.... I feel like I wanna build a billion!
I have an S-Rank DPS in every element other than Electric right now and every A rank.
The only character I don't really feel like building is Billy (sorry).

Need more clarity on this. Did you get Zhu Yuan's signature? I saw your post and thought ok let me try one pull on the weapon banner as well and I got the Vault, which is Nicole's signature. Not bad.

What's the site that displays your pull history in that infographic?

Short answer: No
Long answer: Noooooooo.

I need to go back and redo the debut/promo/training missions for several of my characters because they have Hold-to-Charge-Up based attacks and skills but the Teams and characters i'm currently most comfortable with have very little of that so i'm okay for the moment.

It's why i'll probably be happy to ignore the "Meta" and min-maxing etc and just play what is fun. I'll fall behind the curve that the more hardcore players and whales will progress at but as long as i'm having some fun and the game isn't a chore then i won't care.

Once i'm more familiar and comfortable with gacha and fight tech I'll eventually spend some time to work out the mechanics for some of the more technical characters but for the moment... nah. :D

Probably not since the game is designed to be playable that way!

But there are avenues for diving deeper into mechanics and getting more out of a character.
This is the Zhu Yuan video I was talking about

Don't worry, the intricacies are not really needed. But that video from Guoba is great to see how far you can go. Although I find her dash attack to be very unreliable...
And it's Nicole's weapon I got, like you did. Big upgrade for her (though it's tied to her debuff mechanics which are extremely short windows to do damage).

The website to see signal history is Zenless Zone Zero | rng.moe
Checking mine, I have no idea where those two extra rolls on the limited banner come from :huhblob:

Now I'm curious to know what are things to upgrade first when you reach a new IK level? Char level feels important, a ten level difference with the mobs nukes my DPS and defense...

Yea if you're like me and don't mind losing out on some premium currency from the harder game modes then it shouldn't really be a problem. Some people play games for the challenge and lot of people wish mihoyo were harder than they are but they definitely cater to casuals like us. Plus, their design philosophy is that they want you to win at the game. There's no benefit to them if you lose. Eventually when our characters are leveled up and geared properly it'll be much easier to just button mash your way through the combat for almost everything in the game except maybe a couple of silo'ed difficulty modes. As an example, Star Rail doesn't need any player skill in combat but after a year of playing that game I can build powerful, unstoppable teams that can clear virtually everything the game can throw at me.

But there are avenues for diving deeper into mechanics and getting more out of a character.

Thanks for the video. I'll check it out and see if I can find a couple of spare brain cells to absorb some mechanics.

Yeah leveling up the character and then the weapon is definitely the first priority. For some reason I find myself having an abundance of weapon leveling materials but not as many for character levels.

This is what my pull chart looks like

So the Bangboo pulling thing. Did a 10 pull and got Resonaboo for Zhu Yuan's team. Is it better to get 'eidolons' or to change the priority target and get others? Or just sit on the currency for now?

EDIT: Just realized you guys are quite far ahead of me in terms of pulls on both the standard and limited banners. I've been playing almost every day and I've only missed a couple of weeks of the weekly stuff that I didn't understand. How have you guys gotten so many more tickets than I managed. Like 25 extra standard banner tickets when everyone follows the same rule of never using primogems to get them... how?

It does feel like weapon mats are a lot less in demand than character materials... and even then, I did level up most of the peeps to 30/40, so it's a bit of ascension mat grinding, but the more worrying aspect is skill mats, those I'm hopelessly out of for everyone, and I haven't really built my six characters let alone the others beside some greens spent here and there...

So the Bangboo pulling thing. Did a 10 pull and got Resonaboo for Zhu Yuan's team. Is it better to get 'eidolons' or to change the priority target and get others? Or just sit on the currency for now?

I assume getting different bangboos is better than getting dupes, at least for two teams, but I also have the butler for my Corrin team (that hasn't been touched in forever) and a potential Lycaon/Rina team one day. Now I'm keeping my rolls for future ones.

For the discrepancy in rolls, I haven't spend any chromes on the standard banner, but it's likely:
  • Primer rewards (the "adventure book" rewards)
  • Maybe I've levelled up more characters? Since I have all A ranks since the start?
  • There's also the monthly rolls but that you do know about, so possibly the special shop for Shiyu and Hollow Zero? It has standard rolls, bangboo rolls, and one of the... stat selector thingy for discs.
  • Chrome I used for the limited banner, as I'm quite out of it now.

Ascheroth has done more rolls, so maybe it's also achievements, as well as faded signals (the roll currency that you can spend on more rolls or S ranks weapons). That alone should be quite a few for you, a few runs of Hollow Zero with different elements and Shiyu levels can easily get you 10 rolls.

A new 5-star is waiting for you on the limited banner that you have enough tickets for ;)

But yeah it does kind of suck to get a dupe and/or lose the 50-50 this early in the game's life (both things have happened to me).

Did we all get that in ZZZ? :thinking-face: Sucks.

I'm clearing up the rest of the content, it's a lot easier when you took some time to build your chars and their discs :shlooter: I had to restart a rally mission in chapter 3 three times, once the NPC didn't open the door, and after that mobs didn't spawn... not great.

Soon Shiyu Defense, and I'm not looking forward to that at all...

I wasn't planning on pulling for her but I think ZY is one of my favourite characters ever.
I love ranged combat but it always feels shit in other games, or is straight up not viable as main source of damage/solo, but here I have Nicole and ZY going all gun-fu and shooting non-stop.
Befiore this if I wanted ranged combat that didn't feel shit or clunky I'd have to play an MMO.

If they ever release a stun Agent that's ranged I'll be in heaven.

Did the events available, there's a lot of them.
Didn't like any of them one bit, they're all the shallowest, least interesting parts of the game, from the bad TV minigame that is Pokémon Red&Blue-puzzles-but-worse to the horrendous arcade minigame one that I despise even more than the snake game.

Either they announce a miracle for 1.1 or I'm out, the only fun parts are exactly what everyone expected since the very beginning: the combat that you never get to truly explore outside of a few rally commissions, and weekly boss fights that get faceroll real fast.
The Hollow Zero would be fun if it wasn't so repetitive, they have a decent base with the various environmental rules, but runs are even more samey than in HSR once you have a team going since elements just overtake everything else, it's not like critical or energy change anything about the runs. Four games with a rogue lite mode, four games where it's crap, good job Hoyoverse?

Doesn't help that literally no one is developed beyond pale copies of old anime characters, I maxed out the friendship of everyone I got, and it all felt like a waste of time as I didn't really learn anything about them beyond "see they are THAT trope, get it?" repeated over and over again. At least the character missions are better than the sham that they were in HSR, but that's no high bar.

I'm still enjoying my time with the game but it's because I have stuff left to do. I have 4 agent stories to get to and the Officer Mewmew stuff is incomplete. I'm at IK-42 but I didn't do the ascension test at IK-40. I figured I'd finish all the remaining quests and stuff I had left over before they all got harder after account ascension. Will probably finish up with next week's boss fights etc. before ascending. I also had forgotten to farm ascension materials for my characters anyway.

Next 2 banners aren't that interesting to me. Qingyi as a stun character to pair with Zhu Yuan would be useful and would free up Anby for the other team but I just don't really like her that much. Also there's no chance to get enough tickets to guarantee her anyway. Jane could be good too but again not the biggest fan of her design etc. and building up multiple characters is not appealing right now. Might just wait for the next patch banners. I think Miyabi is going to be a fan favorite.

You should ascend immediately. You can always select lower levels for the farm stuff/weeklies, and quests are fixed levels.

Well like I said, I forgot you need to get ascension materials to level up characters so I'm working on those. Don't have enough to ascend even one team. I don't even want to look into whether I have enough materials to level all of them to 50. I suppose I could use some batteries to speed it up. Should I do that before the Monday reset?

Also I hadn't seen that trailer. Jane's combat animations look amazing. Full on assassin with dual blades. Might be one of those 'try 30 tickets on the banner to test your luck' situations. I also wonder if the new police Bangboo will replace Rocketboo as the best choice even for the Zhu Yuan/Anby/Nicole team.
