After the gut punch that was Syberia 3, The World Before has restored my faith in humanity ™️
Look, don't give me hope. Syberia 3 was easily the most disappointing adventure game I ever played. Sure, the new game will be better, it would be an Olympic triple gold medalist level achievement if they managed to crap out something that's worse, but I don't see this team ever reaching the melancholic beauty of the first two titles. I'm just gonna pretend the series ended with 2.

I think launch number discussion needs to be taken with a grain of salt. We have seen multiple big budget games that had "unprecedented numbers of trailer views" or "extremely positive reception from those who played it" and then fell flat on their face. Predicting how well a game does is honestly getting harder and harder, just as how it's becoming less and less clear what an actual effective advertisement is. Just in december 2023 you could see people talking about how Persona 3 Reload and Infinite Wealth releasing 1 week apart would have cannibalized both sales, and we saw what happened with them, and lets be serious, among Bamco latest anime releases who would have thought the last Gundam game would do better numbers than the last Jujutsu Kaisen, SpyxFamily, Naruto, One Piece, SAO and Sand Land games combined
I ultimately think when a game targets the correct audience it finds success. Maybe Metaphor will bomb, but personally I don't really believe it. I also think, among upcoming games that may surprise people, it's worth taking a look at Sparking Zero, Sonic X Shadow, SAO Fractured Daydream (I didn't believe in this title, but the demo numbers and discussion surprised me). I feel these games will have no trouble beating their predecessors

It will all boil down to how much of the original voice acting/story is in this or how much they butchered it.
I wonder if they'll eventually remaster the full trilogy, maybe with both Blood Omens added to the mix, by the Elder God BO1 desperately needs it.

I swear I don't know how the AAA-Day One crowd does it.

Noticed Anno 1800 was on sale this week and spent days going back and forth trying to decide between base game ($15 USD) and the complete package ($64 USD). The latter an eye-watering price, but on the flip side it's like 5 years worth of DLC.

I pulled the trigger on the $64 bundle and now I feel like I'm gonna puke.

Odd twist:

I'll drop $20 - $30 for Day One indies without a second thought. Often multiple times a month, evening out the math against AAA pricing.

$60+ is just such a mental barrier for me, lol.

Yeah. Nowadays very few releases can make me pay $60. Only 3D Zelda and some other IPs I love like Robocop from last year (it was worth it!). With the infinity amount of entertainment available these days that demand our money (and time), I wouldn't be surprised that many people feel the same.

Due to the extreme high amount of TV shows, video games and movies being produced, finding time for everything I want to play and watch is difficulty, so not only am I very picky to choose between what to do in my spare time, but paying 60$ or more for a video game is something i rarely do.

I can't remember the last game I paid more than 60 for. Fuck that.

the interesting thing about this mental barrier stuff is while there's not much i'm willing to drop $60 on i've found that if i'm willing to spend $60 on something i'm also willing to drop $70 on it without a second thought

it makes me wonder what the next mental barrier will even be for me, I suspect maybe not till $100

The new gaming PC that I had built:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AV V2
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
CPU Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Halo
RAM: G.Skill 48GB
Graphics Card: Gigabyte Geforce RTX 4060 8GB Aero
PSU: Corsair 750e 750 watts
Case: Lian Li O11 Vision White

Micro Center gave me $35 off in addition to any other savings that I got through bundling CPU, Motherboard, RAM, and SSD. I also got two free games because of my Ryzen. Space Marine 2 and Unknown 9.

I built my partner a new PC this past weekend and she isn't big on games but does play some and was getting annoyed at how slow her computer was getting. I also got these games this was (that took they make you use sucks btw).

No idea about Unknown 9, but I've been enjoying Space Marine quite a bit. Looks really good, and despite the missions being kinda generic the bombast and spectacle have been enough to carry me forward. The explicit co-op all over the campaign and PvE modes is really nice too

Horizon remaster, at least owners of the original get an upgrade option, $9.99 for the upgrade if I heard right.
EDIT: Oh, the upgrade was about the PS4 to PS5 upgrade, dunno about PC (good luck to them if they don't do an upgrade option for PC).

If they don't offer an upgrade path on PC, then at this point they are actually trying to piss off the PC userbase lmao.

I finally got around to playing the game earlier this year and I enjoyed it but so far I haven't seen anything justifying a full-priced upgrade.

PC upgrade confirmed, though unsurprisingly it's algo gonna include the PSN overlay.

Cool. Ideally it would just upgrade the same app and preserve the achievement list. I still need to do a NG+/Ultra hard run for the last few achievements and the remastered version would give me an extra incentive to do a new playthrough. But I imagine it'll be a brand new app. Still, at 10$ it's a no-brainer to upgrade.

The PSN account thing doesn't bother me at all personally. I'm glad I get to use my old PSN account and earn trophies again. It really should be optional, though...
