Someone at Sony really needs an intervention. The higher ups are just addicted to forcing their studios to make live service nonsense. I doubt they learned their lesson either, they'll just double down on this, I'm sure
Well that’s what they’re doing no? :p

Lmao. Gof of War is such a poor fit for a live-service game. What the fuck?

We can only hope that Concord spooked them badly enough that it played a role in these cancellations and they'll be hesitant to blindly chase GaaS money in the future...

Square is marketing the shit out of this release I'm actually surprised. The chocobo Steam Deck is just the icing on the cake lol
They really got spooked by their recent string of underperformances, huh.
Better late than never.

A huge waste of talent, money and time...
Man, Sony's GaaS initiative has been a colossal failure, huh. A lot of these cancellations really feel like they never had a chance from day 0 and no one there has any idea what they're doing it, it's all just trendchasing, relying on IP even it makes no sense (what the hell is a God of War GaaS supposed to be and who'd even want to play it), not thinking enough about which studios to use...
Just really baffling. Am reminded of Schreier's recent comment how game budgets are balooning so much cause of mismanagement primarily. Yep, just need to look at this.

Edit: I guess it's possible that a GoW GaaS wasn't a multiplayer title (to which my mind first went), but a single-player experience with more frequent post-launch content rollout and monetization (like modern Assassins Creed games or such).

DW Origins 95% positive, steam banner, and good peak for launch in minutes. Lets see how it does. Game is so fucking good. I might hit 100 hours by next month unless something wild distracts me.
Is there a good environment variety ? The first few hours I skimmed were pretty uniform IIRC

-

In other news, QUESTION !
While thinking about an arcade stick, I was reminded of a smallish indie shoot em up. I don’t recall anything except that it had a great tutorial, teaching, among other things, the different spacing strategies between your ship and the bullets.

Any idea which game it was ?

1. Yes. Also decent weather effects.

2. There are a few possibilities: Danmaku Unlimited 3? Either that or Crimzon Clover World Explosion (not really small). Also Zero Ranger and Blue Revolver are worth trying.

Hmm, I have Danmaku 2 and stupidly didn’t give the light of day to World Ignition after the dev left the first game with launch issues for years.
It leave Danmaku 3, was there ever a demo ?
It was a surprisingly in depth tutorial, I think the game pushed that in its communication.

edit
I think it may have been Gunvein.

Hmm I've not heard gunvein mentioned for those things, but it is worth playing. No clue on DU3. I played it on my phone years ago and loved it then bought it on switch ps and PC.

David Lynch in my mind was one of the last true unencumbered artists. He made the art that he wanted to make and gave no fucks about money, audience, or anything else. He made what he wanted and on the whole his movies and shows are works of love that have depth and meaning to them. I will miss his little weather reports informing me of the weather in Los Angeles. He made music that I didn't much care for, and paintings that didn't do anything for me, but his films and shows affected me deeply.

Twin Peaks the Return is maybe the greatest season of TV ever made. We'll NEVER get something like that again. I watched it again last year and it improved with a second viewing, which is rare enough, but it also made me enjoy different parts this time around. A really magical show, Twin Peaks. Highest possible recommendation.

You gotta be shitting me, this is what Bend and BluePoint have been working on the past few years?

Sadly, Sony is a victim of greedy developers.
As we all know, it is always the developers who want to make GaaS games. At Sony, there was a 12-developer conspiracy that wanted to make a GaaS game in the same year.
Poor Sony.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins seems nice enough. Not open world or weird like 9, engine & gameplay seem polished, probably gonna be milking this style and tech for future Musou. Gameplay feels okay even with mouse and keyboard and it's probably pretty low spec with Deck settings and other stuff. I can't hit 60fps with max settings on my aging PC so I'll lock it to 30. Maybe it's possible with lower settings even but I like it looking nice and there seem to be a lot of FMV that use in-game-esque visuals but are also not high framerate themselves so, for consistency too. There's Japanese, English & Chinese audio too. But lol 80 eur, bye.

The loop of trying to get materials for new equipment only to lose that equipment on death just wasn't fun for me.

Dunno if the 2nd test improved things, I couldn't be bothered to give it a try again.
^ Synduality Echo of Ada:
Checking steam reviews and the community hub, apparently players can even lose items they paid with real money and pre-order bonus items. :toucan:

Also, another thing from the store page:
AI GENERATED CONTENT DISCLOSURE
The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The following portion of the in-game audio was created using an AI-generated text to speech program and reviewed by the development team:
Garage radio chatter voice.

It's Friday night, gaming night. I should be playing GFL2 for the new patch today. But here I am, just finished THAT scene of FF16 (you know, you know) and now I don't want to play anything else. :ROFLMAO: Yo, that was so bloody cool. Good job SQEX.

Restarting FF16 with English script and VA is a transformative experience. The writing and the dub are vastly superior than the Japanese version. The dialogues are so much more nuanced, and every English VA is performing very well. I can't help but feel sorry to Japanese players because they were playing a much inferior game.

I just realized that The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay seems to be unavailable in all digital game stores. I own the sequel Assault on Dark Athena, which also included a remake of the original, on Steam (not possible to purchase anywhere either), but it does not work due to the ancient copyright protection scheme (Tages) used.

That is pretty sad, I guess? I knew that games got delisted from time to time, but I could not have imagined that a game like this would disappear. It was one of the best first person action games of its time and part of a lineage of great first person action games in the same vein.

If some young person likes the new Indiana Jones game and wants to check out past related titles, they now have to go the warez route to install Riddick, a game that was last released on PC as an enhanced edition in 2009?

I own both the gog and steam version and if you want I can upload my gog exe folder like the pcgw page said. I just tested it on my steam copy and it ran fine.

But yeah, Steam should mandate games should be drm free before delisting or something like that.

Thanks for the offer! I turned out to have a copy of Dark Athena on gog.com as well, so I guess I can install it from that place without Tages if I want. But yeah, Steam should enforce some kind of rule like that, and the publisher should have allowed the continued sale of the remaining working version of the game en gog.com

Hmm. Blade Chimera is out. And it's only $14 if you own Bloodstained 🤔

After reading a few user reviews, I think I'll check out the demo before grabbing. It's nice to have so much information before buying a game. :sweeneyfence2:
You're smarter than I am. I bought it day one and have no intention of playing it for months lol. Didn't even look at impressions or reviews. I just blindly buy w/e those devs make.

Is a Deck OLED still worth getting nowadays or are there competitors for a similar price that perform much better?
You can get something that performs notably better (in terms of CPU and GPU), but only at a significantly higher price, and the higher performance will only really be achieved at a higher power consumption level.

IMHO there's no real competitor for the 569€ OLED Deck -- especially as a complete package, taking into account performance, battery life, screen, audio, input, ergonomics, software and pricing -- unless you have very specific requirements (primarily, really wanting to play multiplayer games with incompatible anti-cheat).

Me a couple days ago : Mmh, Dynasty Warriors at 50 on the grey market is a little high for my taste, I could wait a couple of days.
Me today : I'm a master strategist.

Outside of the obvious flavor of the month game fad, I can't shake the feeling there was some fuckery on the publisher's side.
I can't say I ever saw that level of 'out of stock'.
