If it happens it's gonna be a PC, just like the Deck is, they aren't making any console. Thankfully. Small form PCs exist, handheld PCs exist, the advantage of Valve is a) design, b) quality and c) not making them obscenely expensive like competitors. The downside is ww availability, hopefully they can work on that (assuming demand obviously, it's still just one - or a few - of hundreds if not thousands of options, none of them is likely, or even has to sell on par with any successful 'console' by itself as people keep comparing it with for whatever reasons, the sum of it all in all form factors & OS, is what makes up the PC platform).

Hi folks, looking for some thoughts/verification on a proposed build.
I have been out the gaming PC hardware scene for ages so don't really know what's what aside from some of the recent GPU names.

I've made a PCPartsPicker link that's as close as I can get to the build that I've pulled together on PC Specialist UK's configuration tool.
I know it's more expensive than building myself, but I don't want to and it's not that much more than the PC Part Picker estimate anyway.
Cross post, would appreciate any feedback, thanks

I mean sure its going to be a PC just as the deck, its more just calling its intended use case, being hooked up the tv for gaming. But you actually make a great point about the deck, IT IS a pc, and here I was wanting to start using linux more, I should look into docks for the deck.

Could we maybe not link to social media run by Nazis, if that's not asking for too much.
I'm with Mivey that maybe we should try to avoid using x as a source as much as possible, the less traffic and eyes that site gets the better.
You can just not click. I use twitter to follow/promote ~2800 VR devs (future games show shows some, Midnight Walk in that thread). I'll keep doing it for lack of alternatives. I link it every day in the VR thread, using youtube/steam page/dev blog/whatever official links if possible. Fingers crossed he'll sell it back :shrugblob:

Why did noone tell me Gothic has been reimplemented within Unreal Engine? Apparently a single dude did it all but you just get it from the betas tab in your Steam installation and it's playable from start to finish, though people notice differences in AI behaviour and stuff like that. Not that I mind the old engine and as the content is the same the visual improvement isn't profound, but since THQ has yet to patch the enhancements of the Switch ports to PC like they said they would, this is a way to play the original game with gameplay more like Gothic 2 (remember the original employed rather clunky keyboard driven controls, the sequel vastly improved functionality with the mouse and more standard controls) and is probably good for preservation/future compatibility too. I only just found out because some folks are doing a VR mod for it since UE is relatively easy for that (they were initially doing a Unity port for that reason). Random video:

Its fine. Tho I personally don't ever get AIOs, as air cooled for me as been better and I live in a place where winter mid is 16C..summer 34+. Also that mobo will split lanes. So avoid using the M.2_3 slot (or w/e it mentions in the mnual) as that will reduce your slot that your GPU uses usually down to 8x.

Thanks, I will change the cooler option to a generic air cooler (most options in the builder are liquid weirdly)

I’m not building it so that last point is a little bit mooted.

Will be if you decide to add another NVME drive in, months later via yourself, and suddenly wondering why your GPU PCI slot is slower xD

The Gears games are great. The first is a bit basic but 2 and 3 are some of the finest TPS ever.

Gears of War was the flag-bearer for Xbox 360 at a time where people thought Microsoft’s grip on the console space was tightening - now it’s on PlayStation.

Good game, too!

My brain is going to explode when Halo gets announced for Playstation.

Holy shit this is hype for me just for the fact that the previous remaster wasn't on Steam. The original GOW 1 release for Windows Vista was the first game I played on my "brand new" ATI HD 4850 build back in 2009, lol. Good memories.

Hopefully, they release 2 and 3 as well.

AFAIK, GOW:UE performance on PC was completely broken by a Windows update a few years after launch, and the issue was never patched (though from Googling, it's possible that modern GPUs are powerful enough to brute-force decent performance despite the shitty optimization; I haven't tried it myself but I'm seeing conflicting impressions)

I get I can stream from my gaming desktop but is there an easy way to play non-mac supported steam games on my macbook pro? Like Wine or whatever?

You have a few limited options if youre running a Apple Silicon Mac:

Apple's own Game Porting Toolkit • this requires an Apple developer account, but thats not hard to do....using the Game Porting Toolkit might be harder – its meant for devs, not gamers.
CrossOver by Codeweavers (costs €70, has a free trial) • this is based on Wine; and these guys also co-develop Proton
Parallels • I dont know how viable this is for gaming

If you for some reason have an Intel Mac, you can always directly install Linux or Windows via Bootcamp

If you have an M1 or M2 Mac, you can try Asahi Linux. This is in development and bears many risks, I've been told.

Note: I have zero personal experience with any of these.

Reason: added a note about Crossover

Oh yeah, I haven't been following them as closely because for a while there it looked like they might have stopped but Ubisoft added Steam achievements to a few more games over the last couple weeks.

Rayman Legends
Splinter Cell Blacklist
Trials Fusion
Trials Rising

Presumably, Trials Evolution will be next. Beyond that, I'm honestly not sure what's missing at this point. They were more thorough about this than I would've ever expected them to be, tbh.

Those who have played kingdom come 2, I’m in the middle of a quest that’s way too out of my capabilities right now, I have to take out armoured guards while I barely have any clothes or weapons. But if I go do something else to get better gear and such, will the quest fail somehow? Like are quests timed?

I don't know if that's really good for Warhorse or really bad for Square-Enix.
The answer is both. Warhorse spent 40 million USD on KCD2 (all of which was covered by the first game's profit) and made back three times that amount in few months; meanwhile Square Enix spends probably three to four times that amount on FF16, so for them it is pretty bad.

That really depends on specific quests, the timed ones are usually specifically mentioned as such in a dialogue or quest entry and it is just common sense based (if someone is dying and needs help, it is probably timed). I wonder which quest you mean, getting Pepik the Horse from the bandits perhaps? That was my first challenging fight, but managed it with some careful skullduggery.

All this linux talk so I go get ventoy and a few distros.

I grabbed official and KDE of Nobara, Bazzite and Pop_OS. Suposedly they all have nvidia in the ISO cause I want to try the live image.
None of them boot except for Bazzite but bazzite didn't let me try - it went straight to the install wizard as it turns out they don't have a LIVE version. FML.

I wonder if we'll see a Playstation PC announcement soon... it's been a while. I think that only Demon's Souls and GT7 is missing correct? That when talking Triple A, but Shadow of the Colossus and Gravity Rush could be nice too.

I've already thrown the towel for Bloodborne lol

I'm guessing it will be Astro Bot.

Right around September is the 1 year since PS5 release so they will announce it at the next State of Play or wtvr. Maybe they give the trailer to Keighley for SGF next month.

I can maybe see Demon Souls for the winter. And I don't see them bothering with those other titles.

Don't know what they will do next year other than Ghost of Yotei so yea Sony's PC initiative is gonna hit the wall soon as there is fuck all that is left. And they clearly don't care for older games and remasters so yea...

Haha that’s exactly the one! I really have no gear at all, only what I picked up in the beginning of the game. In a story sense it doesn’t make I could go away and get gear but at the same time it doesn’t say it is time sensitive

I killed those bandits! I was pretty lucky, I couldn't even kill them in their sleep, since I dont have a dagger, so I had to knock them out while they were sleeping, then take all their stuff and then stab them.(so their stuff wouldnt get bloody) A few I had to fight outside the camp, but luckily I could beat them. The hardest one, the one with actual armor on, was so sad his friends were dead so he was just sitting on a stool, so I managed to behind him and knock him out! I was so bloody and barely alive after that.XD

I got some advice from PC Specialist forum for the following build

Does it pass a sanity check in terms of what’s there? Nothing obviously missed or surplus to requirements?
(I’m aware of the price but I’m happier having someone else build it)
Cross post, help and advice appreciated :cuteblob:
