Um…
Anyone seen or heard anything about this?

Sounds pretty bad. I hope Valve actually looks at this and speaks up. Either confirming it and offering people a way to protect themselves better, or showing that it's not accurate.

If you’ve got Steam Guard enabled this should be ok right?
Or should change password in case?

I’m not a security expert, but my understanding of the one time access codes sent via SMS is that they’re, well, one time access codes sent via SMS. They are effectively useless within minutes of them being generated.

I don’t think it means people’s 2FA or passwords have been compromised, but I understand why people are concerned.

Would be good to get some reassurance.

I guess the bigger question is the nature of the breach, rather than the actual data on offer.
If the attackers just accessed a database with those old codes, then yeah, not super worrying. If they got access to the servers and were monitoring the actual transactions, then they could in theory have compromised millions of accounts.

Um…
Anyone seen or heard anything about this?

Basically we still don't know yet if the breach Is even legit or not

Until Valve confirms it, I presume it's fake. Selling 89 million account details for only $5,000? lol

Usually with these kind of sketchy leaks they just grab lots of old leaks from various places and bundle them together and claim it's new.

First time I'm hearing the asking price. 5K makes this sound ultra sketchy. That would be worth way more.

I swear, the amount of times I've seen a shocked pikachu face dot jpeg in regards to the mysterious pc market makes me wonder what exactly did all these higher-ups though Steam was, or which incompetent managers convinced them it wasn't worth it with made up slides or stories
"Wait, these steam users really wanted our games after all?" like, Dark Souls came out in 2012 on pc. Surely the fact it sold gangbusters should have been proof enough that pc users do buy "console games"

"Our fans are special, you can't compare it to [the other hundred examples]. They are more sophisticated, more loyal, and our games are 110% calibrated toward the console experience."

Y'know, for all the "They're putting Quake in Doom (The Dark Ages) instead of just making a new Quake!" talk

Dark Ages seems more like "Warhammer 40K at home" than Quake to me to be honest.

Small request, but can anyone gift me this game? I can pay you back

Great to see them comment on this. Sounds like someone managed to intercept SMS messages somehow. Given how a lot of it were numbers with Portugese country codes, I suspect it might have been a very localised "attack". In theory anyone with the right equipment could snoop on sms messages. Not super easy to do at scale, but not totally impossible.

No-Digi-India.png

But why. All three Digimon games are like this. No Digimons allowed in India (on top of the blanket anti-Venezuela) I guess
Yeah, when I lived back in Venezuela I had to ask a friend of mine to help me switch my store region to Spain because even though Venezuela has good prices since merging with the Argentina pricing, the restrictions were too much. No rockstar, no Sony games, no Bamco games, it sucked lol

Ideally, we should've retired multifactor authentication using sms messages in the last decade. Still, not everyone has smartphones and some banking systems still relies on sms for their MFA, so I get why it has lasted for so long.
This and get rid of passwords. Passkeys are much more secure.

In digital security there are two tyoes of "secrets": 1 what you know, and 2. What you own. Passwords are the first type, passkeys are the second one. (2FA is also of type 2)

The first one can be forgotten and guessed, and the second one can be lost or stolen. This means they are complimentary, and can't substitute each other.

For example if an account is only by a passkey stored in the TPM of a laptop, you won't be able to access the account from any other device, or if it gets stolen, you'll won't be able to log into e account anymore.

So saying that passkeys can completely replace passwords is not quite right, but they can indeed reduce the amount of passwords needed by a person. In This can lower the chances of phishing attacks when used along a password-protected and properly-secured cloud storage for passkeys. (With only one password it can be very long and virtually unguessable)

(This is a simplification, cryptography is a very complex topic, eith many intricacies)

2025 has been a catastrophe for me, gaming wise. I can't finish shit to save my life. I was more or less 100% into Exp 33 until I just couldn't even muster the will to launch it. It's not a good feeling.
My next try is going to be a grind game (Enshrouded or V Rising) or a gritty medieval simulator (Wartales).
