Hey, V Rising is cool. It does exactly what I expected and deliver. Now, as to know if I will finally catch on a game...
Just not a fan of the UI, a little too much on the keyboard soup side, and obviously the daylight robbery of the cosmetics. I wouldn't say the unlocks are too slow but more variety in skins wouldn't hurt.

It's basically a playable version of the sloppy gamer hating the sun gif. Can't find it, but yeah. Sun, bad.

Love V Rising, but yeah, those cosmetic DLCs need to be cheaper

Been playing some ClairObscur, and sacré bleu, it looks really pretty.

Loving the setting and combat so far as well. Nice to see a high production game that feels so refreshing and just different. The inspiration from classic JRPGs couldn't be more apparent, but I think there's also a few western inspirations as well, like the camps or base level area that BioWare games of old always did so well.

Looks like next month is pretty lite on game shows.

Its pretty much Keighley + day of the devs on June 6th. And then Xbox + PC gaming show on June 8th.

There should still be plenty of announcements ofc And I am hyped for Delta in 2nd half of the year.

but yea looks like nothing from EA, Ubisoft, Sony or Nintendo in terms of shows/directs. At least no announcements yet.

Doesn't really feel like we are entering 6th year of a console gen cycle. Everything just feels weird so wtf are even gens anymore.

Nintendo doesn’t have a Switch 2 Direct in June ?

I'm seeing a whole lot of debate about DOOM Dark Ages having a way lower player count than the past 2 games, and there's a whole lot of arguments being made about the higher price, premium editions and pandemic boosts, but i think it largle boils down to the fact that it has quite a negative word of mouth going for it with a lot of people simply not liking the direction the game is in.

As i said in a past post, i'm enjoying the game for what it is, but the average doom fan just isn't looking for this sort of combat:

Also, The Mech and Dragon Sections genuinly suck ass in a PS360gen-turret-sequence sort of way

Excuse me, are you saying people are not entranced by the prospect of playing Doom with a shield and parry system ?
I would never.

That Doom video still looks fun to me, but yeah, I can see where complaints are coming from. That will happen when they're trying something new. On the other hand, if they didn't do anything new, people would complain about that, too.
The only reason I'm not playing this game is the price, and I doubt I'm alone in that. Especially considering the deep discounts Doom games eventually get. If that's true, maybe people are winning the FOMO war (hahaha, jk)

Sure, with the limited empathy I have toward companies, I can understand why they do that. They want to keep milking the franchise every 5-6 years, they need to add things to the formula.
The problem is that with a game as historically barebone and visceral as Doom, you have very little space to innovate before you go full off topic.

Like, a lot of people seem to have hated Eternal platforming. I didn't care for it personally, but if you would have asked me what the Doom franchise needed, I don't think it would have been my first thought.

I think they’ve done a Direct every year in recent memory. Makes sense they’d have one to talk about Switch 2 games out later this year.

Yeah I suspect there’s still 1 or 2 major unannounced Switch 2 games coming from Nintendo this year they still need to announce. Given the early June release date for Switch 2 I imagine a direct will be mid to late June.

Doom is one of the founding fathers of run n gun fps games. And so is Wolfenstein.

Its not surprising when they try to do something different for those franchises it usually disappoints. Its another case of trying to change established IPs instead of making a new IP.

Maybe Boomer Shooters is a dead genre at this point. At least of the big budget singleplayer variety that are gonna have to sell for 70$+.

That is the cost of rarely making them and instead doing Multiplayer/GaaS only shit for so many years.

I fear Valve actually does release Half-Life 3 and that thing launches to less CCU than Artifact. At that point you gotta uninstall Steam and look for a new hobby.

I didn't know Solasta and Drop Duchy were French.
Couple that with the ones I knew of (The Last Spell, Wartales, Exp 33 etc.), I have and play a ton of French games. French people everywhere.

I guess it's a sign of an healthy local sector. Cool.

Obligatory :
OMELETTE DU FROMAGE !

Final Fantasy is the poster child of this.
Instead of making a separate IP that is action combat heavy and possibly start a new big IP that can live beside Final Fantasy, they use the name to kill both gameplay iterations and forever make sure that a Final Fantasy game discussion will always degenerate into two or three factions of the fanbase at each others throat.

To be frank, they have experimented with every FF Mainline (turn based, pseudo turn-based, MMOs, action). Every FF has its own fanbase. Their quality (and marketing) have been whack since FF12.

I've been seeing those guys for over decade what the brand "Final Fantasy" even means (but are otherwise chill in deeper discussions).

I've played through 6 chapters and something about it just feels off. It's well made but it isn't clicking with me either. Maybe I'm just not in the mood for it.

That video looks dreadfully boring to me.
But I am a weirdo who considers RAGE to be the best id game. I loved that game's world, atmosphere, visual style, gameplay.
Quake 2 with its Sonic Mayhem soundtrack is second, Doom 3 with its survival hororesque dark atmosphere is third.
Doom 2016 was fun enough for one playthrough, Eternal bored me and went uninstalled after 3 hours, and Dark Ages...yeah.

For what it's worth, Jeff Gerstmann seems to really like it. From what I gather, you have a lot of freedom as to how melee focused have you want it to be, you can upgrade various weapons, so unless there are sequences where you simply need to be melee, this seems more about giving you more options. Doom 2016 really didn't have much in terms of a melee combat, whereas this one opens up that path, without taking away the arsenal you can still get over the course of the game.

The dragon sequences remind me a of Divnity 2, and I loved the dragon sections in that one.

I finally did it. I've just beaten an Elder Scrolls game for the first time ever in my life, after more than a thousand of hours of combined playtime across all 3 games (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim). It's more than just a digital achievement, but it's an achievement of my life. :awwblob:
