Tainted Grail... I bought the first game when it released. A Slay the Spire-like.

Guess what? I still haven't played it. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

There still is nothing like Heroes of Might and Magic 3. I dunno why more people don't revere this series, God damn the gameplay is good.

I've also been challenged by some friends to play some older games that I never checked out and have been playing indie puzzle-platformer Hue. Pretty cute overall. There's some kind of story that feels Braid-esque, but who cares? The puzzles are all pretty fun and haven't been that hard yet though if you're colorblind this game might be rough. Lots of color manipulation as the name might imply.

I know I'm the odd one on this subject but I still prefer HoMM 5 to 3. I just found the campaign story better overall and the heroes more fun to play. But HoMM 3 is indeed great.

Lords of the Fallen (the new one) is such a conflicted game for me. It does many things right (like really beautiful environments) and a decent combat system, but all the systems and the whole game itself is surrounded by some many different flaws that I actually don't know if I actually like the game, Im playing it, but not feeling much from it.

It's so funny because while I've enjoyed HOMM 3 & 4 for ages (HOMM 4 at release) I'm only finally playing through all the HOMM 3 campaigns and I'm doing it in the dumbest way possible, on a Steamdeck with a GAMEPAD. And I'm loving it. Yeah I don't know why I'm like this.

The campaigns are great. I'm playing Armageddon's Blade and loving it. Mouse and Keyboard though lol.

Are you guys playing the homm3 remaster or the gog release? I have it on GOG if I'm not mistaken. Is there any patch/upgrade to apply for the modern systems?

There's a mod that lets you import the higher quality assets from the Steam remaster into the gog installation. But from what I recall, it only works on the base campaign and not the expansions.

15 hours into Clair Obscure, i'm kinda disappointed and don't get the hype.
I was really excited for it originally and only waited on it because of so many other games also releasing, and then the game breaking so many records made me think this must be a masterpiece. But it's 'Just' good, with multiple glaring issues?

I'm a little way into Act 2 and the story is non-existent.

The game genuinly fails to set up its world properly, apart from the whole gommage thing and age-death that was already known of during pre-release coverage, i virtually have no feeling for the games world. Going by the size of the harbor, i assumed lumiere was a really small city as the last bastion of mankind, but then you see mountains of corpses in one level as tho the whole of europe was massacred.

They talk about the fracture, but never explain what the world actually was like before? Was it always a fantasy world with magic, or was it like normal france before it happened? They might explain some of these things later on, but the point is they don't explain anything at all in the first 15 hours.

And as for the story, the entire expedition gets wiped by some random guy, you walk around for 15 hours, and then said random guy kills the MC. and that's it.

I just feel no investment into this at all.

The combat system is also kinda ruined by the parry system. You have characters with some really cool ideas, like the guy with the Devil May Cry style ranking system, but the parry is so universally powerful against everything, it makes the rest of the combat feel obsolete.
Why think a minute about how to do 4-6K Damage with my whole party in 1 Turn, if i can just parry a boss for 9999 within a few seconds?

I defeated an optional boss i clearly wasn't supposed to fight yet literally by parrying for 20 minutes straight and occasionally reviving when i failed a parry.

The game's art is also just extremely busy, i often struggle to tell where i can and can't go until i tried, which makes looking for items feel like a chore.

The Picto system i like but they also throw WAYYYY to many at you, i don't even look at them anymore, i just equip them right away to learn their abilities and that's it.

It's also quite unpolished, i died multiple times to the Lamplighter because the hitbox for his bottom lamp to prevent his super attack was simply not there, among other things.

I do enjoy the game and gonna continue playing it, but i really don't get its 90's Metacritic and people acting like it's the "Savior of JRPG's".

I think a lot of it comes down to liking the games writing, characters, music and overall vibe. Which I personally do, immensely so. I don't care that a lot of it is kept mysterious so far (I haven't finished it, I'm also early into Act 2)
I kinda agree that the combat is a bit uneven and not well thought out. It's a one-trick pony. That one trick, with dodge and parry is darn cool, but if it either to hard or in your case (leet gamer, you) to easy, then it will ruin the experience.

I should play more HoMM3. I don't actually really remember if I ever played through the expansion campaigns. Most of my HoMM3 time was spent in hotseat multiplayer with friends. Hotseat, what a concept.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the HD+ mod is the best way to play the Complete Edition these days.
