I’ve been thinking about how much I love the 1080p display on the Switch 2 and my ROG Ally more than the 720p OLED on my Steam Deck and Switch OLED, and I think I’m ready to jump to a 1080p daily driver.

The ROG Ally’s battery sucks too much for it to be my main. What’s the recommended 1080p Linux (Bazzite or SteamOS) supported handheld out there right now or on the horizon soon?

I got an ROG Ally X and installed Bazzite on it and it works pretty well.
I know there are some newer handhelds coming this fall like the Legion Go 2 and a new ROG Ally with a Z2 extreme 2 if you want to hold out for that. I got my Ally as an open box at Best Buy and may trade it in towards one of those, depending on price and performance. I’m kinda interested in the Legion Go 2 due to the big screen. We’ll see.

I'm guessing it will be a lot of ads
I mean, yes. All the trailers are ads. Ad breaks are between ads.

Just saw like 5 of them in local supermarket 619€ (MK bundle). Same time it's like 100€ cheaper in Germany.
Morgan Freeman Good Luck GIF

You're in Finland too right? Bergsala skimming a cool 100€ from the top as usual.

I was actually mildly curious about the system but noped the fuck out when I saw the Nordic pricing.

So we are almost at the halfway point of the year, what is everyones GOTY thus far?

For me, I know what I wrote on my post above lol, but on a good day its KCD2 if I just manage to push through my problems with it, other than that I would say Atomfall, that I enjoyed through it all.

Not at home right now to verify but I think Blue Prince is the only 2025 release I've played so far, so I guess it's that by default. :phil: :blobpraise:

The only game I've felt is true GOTY material is KCD2 with Clair Obscur in a distant second. You've got some minor games like Monster Train 2 that, while fun, I wouldn't put in the GOTY basket. If anything I've been let down with titles like Monster Hunter Wilds and Doom: The Dark Ages.

Where can I see all the announcements from these summer gaming events?

Era is currently unusable with all the new Switch 2 threads erected every few minutes. Absolutely bonkers.

I remember that there's a website that compiles all the trailers in a single place from before, but I kinda forget the name.

Damn, it's the day innit. I guess tuning into the streams will help make the most of a slow friday in the office.
EDIT: Never mind, everything's scheduled for when I'm out of work. Which does make sense.

I saw some speculation that Silksong would be out before "end of Summer 2025".

I dunno if I believe that but that's a bold prediction.

This is the one I've been using for the past few years. Traulers on the homepage, event vods and schedule in the "watch" tab.

Schedule I has been holding steady for a couple months now but man Fantasy Life i just landed and is speedrunning up the ranks for that top spot, lol.

Been a fantastic year so far and there's sooo many titles of interest still on deck for 2025.

Others that are in contention for personal Top 10:

ENA: Dream BBQ
Blue Prince
Card Survival: Fantasy Forest
Two Point Museum
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
Approaching Infinity

It will be sad to make the inevitable cuts from the above list but man my Wishlist for upcoming 2025 releases is STACKED.

Sure will be fun finding out!

From this year's titles I'd say

Fantasy Life is amazing (just finished the story today, but there's loads left to do).
Dynasty Warriors Origins was super fun to play.
Monster Hunter Wilds is also great but I just ran out of stuff to do in that game.
Also, this was a late 2024 release, but Indiana Jones was an awesome, gorgeous game and anyone with gamepass should at least try it.

GOTY contenders so far for me are:

The First Berserker Khazan - Even though I have my gripes with the game, I ultimately really enjoyed my time with it. I prefer a level/mission based structure when it comes to action heavy games, so the fact that Khazan basically rips-offs Nioh's misson based structure was a plus for me. The combat isn't obviously on the same level as Nioh, but what's there is really good & well-designed with a fair bit of depth.

But the highlight of the game were the bosses for me, with the exception of the "Dragon" which was just boring to fight.

Dynasty Warriors Origins - The game has an insane amount of story content (including officer bonds), with three factions to choose from each with their own true ending which is easy to achieve thanks to the game's replay function, but not something you are likely to get on your first playthrough as the requirements for the true endings requires doing time-sensitive optional objectives. I ended up putting over 90 hours into the game. I overall like the new gameplay direction they've implemented in Origins and hopefully they expand on this more in future titles. Wouldn't mind a Samurai Warrior game with the same gameplay style as Origins!

Fantasy Life i - Started this recently and I'm really enjoying my time with it. Obviously still a lot to do, but I can see this easily ending up on my top list this year. Haven't played the 3DS game so have no reference point or how it compares to it.

So far I've finished the following 2025 games:
  • The Roottrees are Dead
  • Citizen Sleeper 2
  • Blue Prince
  • Promise Mascot Agency
  • Clair Obscur Expedition 33
They all are stronger contenders to be my personal goty and they will surely be in my list.

I'm also playing Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo and Wizordum and they are also likely to be on my list, I jut need to finish them.

It would be wild if Half Life 3 actually gets announced this weekend. I know it's in development but I'm not getting my hopes up it will be announced anytime soon. If it does great. If not I'll keep on living my life.

Of 2025 games I finished:

Avowed - 7/10
South of Midnight - 7/10
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - 8/10
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - 10/10

So KCD2 gets the GOTY by far. You need to push through the challenge, later on in the game you will be complaining about it being too easy :sneaky: And the final part of the main quest is so good, well worth seeing through.

From older games I finished few more, standouts being TLOUP1 and Aliens Dark Descent, both are awesome.

On the what could be GOTY tip:
  • Suikoden I & II HD Remasters -- honestly won't win cause it wasn't the best version it could be, but it's pretty good now that you can play without the music getting ruined with fast forward.
  • Uhhhh Trails is usually due a spot somewhere.
  • I want to try COE33 and Nightreign
  • FFT is pretty good?
  • Silksong?????
There's lots of good games.

MGS3 is fucking 80€?! Are you fucking serious?!

Its so disappointing. Especially with Oblivion remaster being 50$ and I got it for like 40$ off site.

I'm sure it was a lot of work and I don't think Konami did the whole engine overhead UE thing from the past game or wtvr.

But even if it is ground up....still Oblivion is like a 300hr singleplayer game lol. MGS3 is much shorter.

They should have settled at 50-60$. Fucking Konami taking advantage of long time fans.
