Community MetaSteam | February 2026 - Romeo and Rogue: Dead Citadel Requiem

Requiem with only an 88 on Metacritic.

Subtract 5 more points for Leon bias and 5 more for general overhyped new release bias..

Trim off another 3 points for the excessive marketing..

And its a 75.

Looks like another middle of the road Capcom game.

They've definitely fallen off..

A bit concerning I would say.

The only RE I have played (and completed 100%) is RE5... I should correct that. :D
I feel like I should do the same. The only REs I've completed are RE2R and RE4R even though I have most of the RE games. The next one I'll probably complete is RE9. At this rate it looks like I might be a closet Leon fanboy.

I was serious about RE6, Its right up there as a favourite.

Reason being is that its the last RE that was more action than horror and i just can't handle the more scary later games. Graphics have got too good, i can't take it.
The original RE1 & 2 were fine as i played them back in the day, mostly with mates at uni and they aren't really that scary. 4 shifted to the action type stuff and 6 seems like the culmination of that direction. 6 was the perfect blend of ridiculous story, crazy set pieces, variety of playable characters,

I played 7 a bit and just found it too scary, same with 8, they just didnt do it for me.

I'm happy the series did pivot back to horror though, as it seems like 6 isn't well thought of and if 7 had been more of that type it may have killed the franchise. We might not have got the remakes of 2&3 which i did actually play and enjoy, probably because of the nostalgia.

Great series all round, something for everyone.

ah okay, I understand! thanks for writing this :)
and thats true, after RE6 they shifted back to horror; but you can see they try to find a balance with each game. Even RE7 has some silly over the top action towards the end (and in one of the DLCs with Chris Redfield).

did you play the RE4 remake? I think it was way less horror-leaning than RE7 or Village. (Im not good at judging how scary something might be to others, tho)

I'd like to know why :) (also from Joe Spangle)
(not because I wanna doubt anyones favourites or anything like that—just curiosity because so many people dislike RE6)
It's a co-op action game with an amusing over-the-top presentation and tons of content.
I'm very much into that, and not very much into survival horror.

So my preference is in no way indicative of some sort of overall, objective quality of the games. But it is my favourite.

Dont hate me, but by the time RE 6 came I had zero interest in RE, so much so that it took me some time to play RE7 and only after hearing how great it was. Now I would count RE7 my favorite RE and 8 close second.

I had zero interest in RE for the longest time! I only got into the series with RE Revelations 1 (checking Steam, I bought that in 2014) Before that, I was aware of the series, had watched one of the movies ( RE Apocalypse) but never actually played one of the games.
I played through Revelations and then Rev2, but the other games I tried (I had bought the other games during various Steam sales after finishing Rev1) failed to grasp me, mostly due to odd controls or - as I mentioned - camera angles. But when RE7 released, man... thats when I really started loving this series :) And they just kept coming with excellent games after that.

Yeah I did, and enjoyed it. Again probably because of nostalgia and that its more action-ey than horror-ey.

Ah, cool! Yeah, I'd definitely say its more on the action-side...its a good balance, really.

ah I see, thats cool! thanks for chiming in :) I totally get that angle. And I thought it might have to do with co-op ;)

If you'd like to hear my opinion too, the first Resident Evil game I played was 4 so by the time I got to the series it had already become more action focused. The game provides four different campaigns, a lot of action, a lot of spectacle and a lot of fun in a mindless Michael Bay sort of way.

I have minimal opinions on RE since I didn't grow up with it at all.
  • I can't really get into the really old, pre-rendered BG ones. I can't aim for shit in second-person.
  • RE4 still plays fantastically, and Mercs is a ton of fun.
  • I think RE8 is a step down from RE7. It feels much more disjointed, and it stumbles in trying to do more stuff than RE7 within in the same runtime. It's a weird case where the game feels like it's in its most "ideal" form, where there isn't anything that deserves to be cut to make more space for everything else, but that ideal form also just isn't super great. Also, the mode it claims is Mercs is also a janky abomination.

Of course! I always value your opinions anyway

And that's also a very fair point.
If you come to a franchise at a certain point, you may just have a different opinion of what makes said franchise great!
My favourite example is thief2014 which I liked but many people had vastly different expectations in the series and disliked it immensely.
And i guess RE6 was just too far removed from the early games for many people.

I wish someone could convince HAMSTER Corporation to put out Arcade Archives 2 (Rave Racer) on Steam :wd_heart:

I know it won't happen, but I need one of these Japanese companies to give me something. I'm still mad we never got Daytona.

Kirk: Really? You think they could close that door and start to say nevermind Ghost of Tsushima 3 is only going to be on PlayStation?

Jason: I do. I do and I mean even if they don't, we are seeing Wolverine is coming in September 15th, and that's not coming to PC its coming to PlayStation 5 only.

Kirk: You don't think that'll come to PC?

Jason. I wouldn't be surprised if it never came to PC, but even if it does you have a strong idea of what that is and that you need a PlayStation to play it at least for the indefinite future.
I mean, Wolverine launching on PS5 only isn't that different from literally any other ps5 exclusive launching only on PS5, why is that different?
Jason: And I don't think it was that successful in the first place. So I don't know. It doesn't seem like it's going to be that big of a blow.

Kirk: You mean like sales-wise successful or?

Jason: Yeah, like commercially successful.Yeah, I mean, that's the big question. But yeah, to me, it's very possible that they put that genie back in the bottle because it seemed like they were always kind of half dipping their toe in the water, like dipping their toe in the water, like half entering the pool in the first place with that, with the staggered releases."
"It wasn't that successful, actualy it kinda was"
Kirk: Right, I'm just observing a strategic similarity in the way that PlayStation is now releasing The Last of Us 2, these big PlayStation exclusives are being put on PC. And in seeing the grumbling among PlayStation fans saying,

Jason: Yeah, I think that's going to stop, is what I'm saying.
Lots of "I think, maybe they will". I'm starting to think these podcast are intentionally saying Sony is leaving pc because it brings the hits from fanboys. Like this one episode has been out for almost a day but it only "exploded" when someone posted the "Jason said sony is leaving pc" part

Regardless, I have SRW on Steam and I will continue to have it in the future. If I buy Sony titles there I do it as a courtesy, not because I need them, and I will never go out of my way to buy or play them. Same for egsclusives
