Darwin's Paradox!

With his extraordinary intelligence and incredible abilities – swimming, camouflage, and many other fascinating skills – help him overcome the most formidable traps and dangers in this captivating platformer, adventure, and puzzle game.

In the peaceful vastness of the ocean, Darwin, a young octopus, explores the deep sea… until a strange beam of light pierces the abyss and pulls him toward the surface. Thrust out of his aquatic world, he wakes up disoriented in the middle of a gigantic junkyard, backed by a foreboding factory.

But something is wrong. Between the threatening machines, strange holding tanks, and the mysterious and dangerous creatures and characters that inhabit the place, Darwin realizes he is in danger. To return to the ocean, Darwin will have to outsmart, evolve, and reveal to the players through his journey the mysteries of a conspiracy that goes beyond anything one could have imagined… and which could very well seal the fate of humanity!

Road to Vostok

Your road begins in Area 05, an evacuated zone located in the southeastern part of Finland. In Area 05, you will find shelters, traders, tasks, and starting loot for initial survival. Your peaceful life in Area 05 is often interrupted by hostile Bandits, an anarchist group taking advantage of the lack of authority in the area.

Once you have gathered enough loot and equipment, your road continues toward the east, where you will find the Border Zone, a guarded border line between Finland and Russia. Each Border Zone map has a crossing point with different challenges. Some crossing points may include mines or physical obstacles, while others require using waterways with boats. On top of these challenges, the Border Zone is guarded by a group called Guards. These foreign border guards are armed, corrupt, and often rely on air support to prevent people from crossing the border.

If you manage to cross the Border Zone, you will enter Vostok. Located in Russia, Vostok is a high-risk, high-reward zone and holds the most valuable loot in the game. Every Vostok map is a permadeath map. If you die in Area 05 or Border Zone, you only lose the equipment and loot you're carrying, but if you die in Vostok, you lose everything. Vostok is controlled by the Military, an armed troop with heavy weaponry and the ability to use armored vehicles. The Military faction is the most dangerous faction in the game, and they have one objective: to push you back where you came from.

Time of Day: The game uses a 24-hour day & night simulation where lighting conditions change dynamically with sun and moon cycles. You can manipulate game time by sleeping, but most of the time, you will need to prepare for darkness when roaming through the game world. Weather: The game has randomized weather states that vary from sunny to dark skies with thunder and everything in between. If you are lucky, you may even see northern lights on a clear night sky. Seasons: If you survive long enough, the game world will shift from summer to winter, and you will start facing issues related to snow and cold. You can also choose constant summer or winter modes for your playthrough. Events: On top of the changing lighting conditions and weather, dynamic events occur every now and then in the game world. These events vary from small ambient sounds to aerial events, like airdrops and crash sites, to faction-based special events.

Samson

Samson comes home to the worst streets of Tyndalston, a place that built him hard and never forgave him. Muscle, speed, and nerve decide who stays upright. He learned violence before he learned mercy, and the city hasn’t forgotten. Every clash matters. Every hit is meant to break or be broken. You cut through alleys, rooftops, and backroom dens designed to keep you moving, not sightseeing. Tyndalston shapes how you fight, climb, corner, and vanish. It’s familiar ground, but never safe ground.

Cars are not set dressing. They’re blunt instruments. You rip through the outskirts and industrial wastelands in battered machines held together with scrap and stubbornness. Ram, drift, smash, or outthink whoever chases you. Nothing here is clean. Samson’s debt hangs over everything, and his sister is the pressure point his enemies squeeze. Time is short, and the bill keeps growing. This is a focused, brutal chapter in his story, built with intent, no excess, no padding. He didn’t return to entertain. He returned because this is the only place where he can fight his way out.

Your debt grows by the hour, and the people holding it squeeze harder every day. Every job, every dollar, every choice cuts a path forward or shuts it down. No do-overs. No safety net.

Story That Hits Back: Uncover what broke Samson’s family and what it takes to fix it before time runs out.

The Occultist

You play as Alan Rebels, a paranormal investigator who travels to an abandoned British island after his father's disappearance. Explore Godstone island, face supernatural entities, and uncover long-buried occult rituals.

In The Occultist, paranormal investigator Alan Rebels travels to the mysterious island of Godstone to determine the cause of the sudden disappearance of his father. Even though he mentioned the island repeatedly over the decades, all that Alan really knows is that his father was born and spent his early years there. However, Alan does not travel alone. He carries with him his mystical pendulum, an object of unknown origin that accompanied him on all his past paranormal investigations. As he explores the foggy streets and maddening buildings, apparently being the only things that remain on the mysterious island of Godstone, it becomes clear: This will be a case unlike any other.

Godstone was inhabited until 1950 by an infamous, macabre cult that performed disturbing experiments and cruel rituals. No one has ever set foot on the island since - until today. Using his paranormal talents, Alan must interact with the ominous souls that seem to remain in the foreboding streets and buildings left on Godstone; or avoid them at all cost, should they be wrathful. Being a paranormal investigator, none of this is new to Alan Rebels. The mysterious Godstone however and his search for answers to his father’s disappearance put Alan’s skills to the test. More than any investigation before, Godstone shakes Alan’s convictions of what is possible in the world of the occult. Maybe Godstone hides a curse that can be lifted… but should it be?

I was thinking about Early Access games, some of them become huge during EA but do any of them become huge once they are finished? Feels like by the time they hit 1.0 they kind of stay in low hum. Of course there are games like Vampire Survivors, Baldurs Gate 3 and similar.

I think it's about how the devs USE that EA period. If they are just putting it out to get funding to finish the end of the game that's a big difference from devs that DESIGN the game to be complete in a small slice and intend to iterate and make changes, those are more likely to be successful in Early Access.

Use the Early Access period like a long alpha or beta test. Actually gather feedback, make changes, etc. As a community member that's what I like seeing and that makes me more interested in the game. The when it is hitting 1.0 I am more interested in telling others about it.

Instantly. Don't worry the scalpers will do what they always do and ruin a product launch.
There are things Valve could do to mitigate this in terms of giving certain users priority. It obviously won't stop scalping entirely but it'll stop people making a Steam account and buying a £1 game to be eligible, which I imagine many scalpers have already been doing in preparation for this launch.

I'd go by a combination of playtime with gamepads, Big Picture use and ownership of other Steam hardware as a wave 1 queue jump. Scalpers will lose interest if they can't dry up supply for day 1 enthusiasts.

so, most of you already saw this in the restricted post (thanks again for the kind words there, seriously), but here's the proper announcement now

it's a steam stats and analytics site. tonnes of data, useful for regular players poking around AND for devs who need the deeper stuff. basically, something for everyone, lol

it's still very early so things will move around, and more stuff is coming (the to-do list is not short, lol). if you spot anything broken, confusing, or have ideas ... please tell me, i genuinely want to hear it :)
Okay, where's the link to patreon? I refuse to look at a site that gets less monthly donations than SteamSpy guy.
Congrats!

Great job, no notes!

Not true! I have one note from the restricted spoiler the other day, when I opened it from the phone and then forgot to reply. :coffee-blob:

The top 1 game position is kind of confusing, especially on small screens where it wraps under the 2-7 list. It ends up becoming the 8th game, in a list without number 1.

Steamograph site is interesting, didn't know it was being made, but may I ask what does it do different than steamdb? What is the motivation behind making it?
And I assume it is not possible to import data for existing games? E.g. CCU peaks that happened before the site launched?

I mean, the Steam Deck OLED launch was fine. I'm pretty sure you could buy the limited edition for multiple days, even.
I kind of agree and kind of don't agree here.

Yes, the Deck OLED launch was fine. It was also an expensive iterative upgrade on a system that was scalped to hell and back at launch.

Steam Controller is going to be comparatively more affordable (almost certainly sub-$100), which does two things:

1) It lowers the scalping risk. They can probably eat shit on these far easier than someone loading their trunk with Wii U consoles.
2) It increases demand. Just looking at discussion on socials, the new console/VR hardware is attracting some people but most people are saying "the Steam Machine/Frame looks cool, but I'm in for the Controller".

On the flipside, a controller is nowhere near as complex as a console, so Valve can probably meet demand if they're not being too conservative with initial manufacturing. I think a quick way to break scalpers' backs is to get "best customers" through checkout first and then flood the channel. This is what Nintendo did with the Switch 2 and that thing has both sold a lot and had a healthy supply.

it's not really trying to be like steamdb (xPaw's stuff great and i'm not stepping on that), it's more on the data and analytics side, sales and revenue estimates, CCU history, review trends, pricing, per-tag and per-studio pages, side-by-side comparisons, that kind of stuff. main thing i cared about was being open about the numbers, every estimate uses a few methods blended together with a confidence grade, nothing hidden, nothing locked, and the whole site is free with no account or tracking (this kind of data shouldn't really be gated in my opinion, especially for small devs). built it mostly because i kept wanting these views for my own stuff and couldn't get them in one place. as for historical data, yeah can't backfill anything from before tracking started :negative-blob: from now on it all gets logged properly though, so it'll fill out over time :)

This has to be the longest post (minus the OPs) that lashman has ever posted.

Joke aside, great work. Going to use it forward. :cat-heart-blob:
