IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator

A brutal dieselpunk heavy-artillery simulator where you dominate the battlefield through a colossal war machine. Every lever, every dial, and every shot is under your control. High Command may send its orders, but the chain of command ends at your fingertips. They don't carry consequences. You do, Operator.

The teleprinters are calibrated to monitor local radio traffic. One delivers TOP-PRIORITY directives from High Command. The other relays direct calls from the frontline. Remember: every piece of information can determine the success of the entire operation.

Transform intelligence reports into a battle plan, get aerial photos that reveal the outcome of your actions, and watch your barrels reshape the landscape. The map isn't here just for measurements. It's also your window to the battlefield. Make no mistake. You can move the markers, but the scars remain.

Hammer the measurements, crank the numbers, and watch the ballistic calculator grind toward firing solutions. Drive the charges higher to blast shells across the horizon, or dial it back to arc them deliberately into enemy emplacements.
Beware: the machine may fail. You must not.

Breach bunkers with armor-piercing rounds, screen friendly withdrawals with smoke, and ████ █████████ with phosgene gas. It never happened if there are no witnesses. Every shell is forged for a single purpose, and whatever you choose will echo across the battlefield long after the smoke clears.

Haul the elevation wheel and watch the guns climb under your command. Match it with the exact propellant charge, or a surgical strike will turn into an avoidable mess. Precision is everything because neither flawless paperwork nor the finest propaganda will erase your guilt.

Drag the heavy lever and feel the entire structure shudder beneath your feet. A machine like IRON NEST doesn't spin on a whim. It takes time to swing that much iron with grace. Skilled Operators use that time to handle other tasks. After all, the coffee machine on your desk is there for a reason.

Pull the trigger, and let thousands of tons of machinery answer your call. Feel the turret recoil and watch the frontline crumble under the weight of steel. Once the dust settles, only silence remains, hanging heavy in the air, and the moment new orders arrive, it all begins again.

Dictate wisely. Every choice shapes society, for better or worse.

Mold your citizens through fear, propaganda, surveillance, punishment or rule as a benevolent leader through comfort and prosperity.
While they work for the State, they may grow grateful, afraid, loyal, or quietly rebellious, until dissent becomes revolt.

Venture into the fractured territories of the Tyris System to gather resources, conscript new citizens, trade with wandering merchants, and feed the growth of your colony.

Fight beside your troops in roguelite FPS battles, from hostile ships to large-scale mechanized battlefields of infantry, tanks, and mechs, spreading your doctrine and eliminating threats to humanity.

Weakened foes can be captured and dragged back to your base.

Behind prison doors, resistance can be crushed through fear, indoctrination, execution, or conversion, until an enemy becomes a citizen, a warning to would-be rebels, or another tool of the regime.

Elite enemies, bosses, and Sector Overlords flood the battlefield with bullets, lasers, missiles, drones, artillery, and overlapping projectile patterns.

This is war at scale, but you are not alone. Order your troops to secure victory, or use them as expendable shields to achieve your ends.

Turn a handful of survivors into a vast, tightly run, self-sustaining colony.

Assign citizens to mine, gather, haul, research, and manufacture weapons, armor, food, and supplies. Watch fragile shelters become the machinery of the State.

Collect roguelite cores during each expedition to grow stronger, survive longer, and push deeper into enemy territory.
Weapon Cores reshape how your guns handle. Combination Cores create synergies between different core sets. Others strengthen the troops fighting beside you, or turn them into sacrificial shields for your survival.

Each run becomes a shifting war machine built around you, your squad, and the chaos you unleash together.

Pax Autocratica is a totalitarian colony sim and FPS roguelite hybrid that combines base building, citizen management, and first-person chaotic battlefields filled with infantry, vehicles and bullet hell. It offers a dynamic, accessible, and approachable gameplay experience for all in a sci-fi dystopian world.

Steam recommended Aggelos 2 to me the other day. They know what I like, but I hadn't played the first game. Thankfully, it's on sale @ Humble for $1.50. I've been playing it these last couple days and I really like it. A perfect little game for my Neo Geo controller.

But isnt that the appeal of GTA, as with Red Dead, to be essentially a life sim, or even a virtul reality experience as we envisioned them to be back in the day, life star treks vr rooms.

I still believe that is the strength of the medium, to just tell a linear story, that pretty much all the other mediums can do and do better, but to be a sim, now that only games can do.
Not really. GTA3 and Vice City, the best games in the series, are very arcadey. This idea that the games need to be hyper detailed is a pivot Rockstar did from San Andreas onwards and each game got progressively less good since.

I want to do heists and drive cars and commit crimes and run a criminal empire, not play basketball in my yard or refill my gas.

It's completely superfluous and detracts from the art rather than adds to it.

Plenty of people will disagree with me because GTA6 will sell a bazillion copies. But I'm just lamenting what they were - parodies that were fun and focussed. Not po-faced life sims with unlikeable characters.

Saying that it detracts from the art, is trying to force games be an artform like others, what I tried to say was that games is an unique artform where its core promise is to let you live the life of someone, how you want. Thats why I often say that Minecraft is very close we got to a perfect video game, because that can only be a video game and doesnt work in any other medium. Thats because everything in the game is emergent from what you do, now if we could get a game like GTA that has so many systems and so open that it would allow you to play the game anyway you want, now that would be a perfect game. Im not saying all games have to be like that or that anyone has to like that, just saying that a game like that would play to the strengths of the medium to the fullest.

Not really. GTA3 and Vice City, the best games in the series, are very arcadey. This idea that the games need to be hyper detailed is a pivot Rockstar did from San Andrea's onwards and each game got progressively less good since.

I totally see where you come from. GTA3 and VC have much more freedom in doing missions, while starting from SA everything is more scripted. I remember there is a mission in GTA3 where you need to chase down someone who ran away and later got onto a car to escape. Guy ran so fast it is very difficult to catch up, so what I did was that I found a car to block his car before triggering the escape sequence. Guy got onto his vehicle but got slowed down by the blockade, so I could finish him off with ease. It was a great moment and can't be recreated in later games.

But I wouldn't say GTA games got worse afterwards. SA and 4 were truly great games in my eyes and I replayed them every few years. Story, writing and vehicle handling in 5 regressed quite a bit (imo) but it was revolutionary to play as 3 protagonists at the same time. When the series go on, the formula has to be changed. With graphics becoming more realistic, it is very normal that they also opt for more realistic mechanics and story, and I honestly think it is the right choice - GTA represents the pinnacle of open world games, and the developers have to move forward into something much more relatable to players in order to make them immersing in the playground, rather than just being only about doing crimes and killing people.

I still don't know how to react to the requirement of gas refilling in GTA6. I would reserve judgement until getting my hands on it.

Edit: Also basketball playing is actually in SA. Not many people know about it lmao

I was VERY impressed with the tech in the GTA VI showcase. The level of detail with anything from texture fidelity to ambient lighting and draw distance is pretty jaw-dropping. Crazy polygonal density as well like with all the products on the convenience store shelves, etc. A real wow moment was the car chase sequence where you're playing gunman in the back seat and shooting out the tires of the approaching cop cars and the way they would come right up to you and then roll over to the side was visually stunning.

BUT

On the flipside that visual fidelity & realism put me off narratively. I found myself feeling low-level anxiety during some story sequences. Approaching the apartment building for the drug pickup felt dangerous. The ensuing shootout where you're waiting for the elevator doors to close and the cop rolls right up on a pacified gangster and shoots them point blank in the head felt bad. And later in the stairwell at the upscale party where Lucia gets thrown into the wall, leaving a blood spot where her face hit, and thrown down the stairs felt kinda gross.

Yeah, I don't know if that's the energy I need in my life right now with how bad things are going out in the real world because half the voting block in my country are callous & ignorant morons.

Oh I know for sure I'll be getting the game when it lands on PC. If anything for the excruciatingly detailed world simulation elements virtually no other studio has the time & budget to replicate.

But I can confidently say any potential FOMO on delayed PC launch just isn't a factor this time out. I'll be tracking player impressions & reception for sure. I'll also be just fine as a sideline spectator.

I'd say that with RDR2 is a bit different since you cannot be a cowboy in the American frontier anymore. And that well, anything on the Western genre is pretty much made up from what really happened back then. So it's easier to buy the "play-believe".

For me, GTA 6 falls flat due to its hyper-realist art style. Too much like real life, and of course I cannot earnestly judge since I haven't played it, but there seems to be no sauce behind it. If a game is going to offer pornographic violence, at least make it super stylized, like say, Metal Gear Revengeance, or MadWorld.

My Star -Com character ended up be the boring ass default. Every single other present face looked like shit? That must be a skill to somehow make an entire character creation stage and every preset except the default llhas horrible uncanny valley vibes. Eyes either too big or too small, too far apart or something.

Some of these maybe look better as other alien races but the more humanoid ones look so bad. It was impressive.

The games performance is....not great. It does play fine but there's noticable jank...just like XCOM2 around launch. This might actually be better even. The story is fun so far and I'm starting to get into the tactics and cross training and bond levels. The game part of this game is fantastic.

Sure but that is a presentation question, not a gameplay options one, which I was arguing for. Also in terms of violence, as it was with Red dead, when violence happens if feels more violent because it doesn't happen all the time, and the more one can do other stuff the more violence will stick out which I think is a good thing, contrast that with like call of duty that is a concentrated experience of constant action non stop, if GTA suddenly was made more like that it would definitely make for a much worse game.

Right, but personally I do put a lot of weight in the presentation of the game. I do appreciate the technical panache on display, but at least for me, it's in the service in the most mundane shit.

But thats the best part! I have forgotten all the actiony stuff, but I do remember all the mundane stuff lol. Then again I am one of those that avoids the main quest line in game as much as I can.

Having looked at the direction both RDR and GTA have gone, I have lost all interest in them ever doing a Bully sequel.

I am happy that they are getting created though. As there are plenty of people who love that sort of thing.

I would ask if it will be as well loved in GTA as it was in RDR2. I can understand cleaning your horse down and so on, it's almost mythical unless you are a horse rider. But I have to fill my car up in real life, it isn't fun (especially paying for it at the moment ). But I have never enjoyed durability of weapons either.

On the other hand I have played almost 30 hours of Fields of Mistria, tending crops, looking after animals and maintaining relationships with people in the town. So what do I know.

Yeah I mean if that's what you enjoy who am I to tell you otherwise, and I really hope you have a grand time playing it! :D but personally I'd rather play the entire Neptunia series (and make lashman watch).

Yeah good points. I feel the same I think. I enjoyed GTAs up to 5, they are fun in a silly way. All got a bit serious and real in 5, Will be a lovely visual feast though.

How do you do satire in todays landscape. Be interesting to see where they can go.

Ill pick it up on PC down the line and enjoy messing around.

Would love a Red Dead 3, hope they do that next, though if it takes as long as GTA6 ill be pushing 60! Mad.

I always found the original crude with the sterile CG 3D model renders for its sprites, a far cry from the hand drawn prequel, so the remake looks fitting enough.
Ironically, I think there's something iconic about the HOMM3 sprite style specifically. The visual nostalgia people have for the series is usually around HOMM3, and I feel it too, although I cannot explain it.

That's the big shame of GTA for me. Because I loved the semi emergent gameplay of 3 and VC, and even by San Andreas I began to check out. The only fun I had with V is wandering around, and I could only stomach a few hours of RDR2. I have no patience for the life sim stuff, and slow podding pacing.

So I expect someday when GPUs are cheap and GTA6 gets its enhanced PC port, I'll play it to wander about and look at the graphics and try to do some emergent gameplay things and never get more than 3 hours into the story and never touch the MP.

Everything said about GTA and Rockstar and how they suck is fair and are the main issues.

For me, what makes it easy for me to avoid GTA6 is how boring and meh it looks.

Like, all this realism is too much. The game feels like a second job of pointless busy work, and now they've tied that to the narrative outcomes too?

Literally fuck off Rockstar. Absolute hacks. I don't want a micromanagement lifesim where I need to maintain my health and relationships. I have to do that IRL and that's enough.

And their games aren't even funny anymore. The nastiness of GTA reminds me of how the latest season of The White Lotus shifted from being funny to being about the edginess and cruelty and pointing aghastly at all these sickos instead of laughing at larger than life caricatures of them.

They've become so obsessed with realism, they've forgotten what a joke is.
Many many good points. I just want to add, it's really funny how the ONE police chase gameplay I saw was another scripted event with cop cars emerging from garages along pre-defined spawn points etc etc that they've done for ages.

it's crazy how strongly people feel about this stuff, I like how the original looks too but I look around on subreddits and such for the game/series hoping to see people talking about the gameplay changes and it's all just completely filled with people angrily ranting about the new graphics with nothing else to be seen

I guess it's not surprising for people still playing a game so old to have some pretty strong feelings about it but damn it's not like they're taking the original away or anything

It's interesting how much of a dilemma GTA VI is for me.

One on side, the game looks phenomenal and Im sure fomo is gonna come for me.

On the other side, the cheapest I can find is the game costing 87$ at a retailer (102$ on PSN). I don't actually wanna double dip and the game I assume will be 30 fps on PS5 and Im not sure if I can do that.
It's confirmed to be 30

Same, I played the first one a ton. I didn't get the 2nd one due to mediocre reviews, so I hope this one is more like the first!

The 2nd was fun for a while, but lacked the depth and challenge of the original game. At least they go back to 2D graphics with the 3rd so I have high hopes.

I loved RDR2 too much not to be hyped for GTAVI. But I still don't know if I pick up a PS5 for it. PC is still likely the way next year or 2028.

But I was very bored with GTAV. It just didn't grab me like the old games did.

The story in RDR2 was so incredible and according to IGN the story in GTAVI will be like 80hrs in a playthrough with some optional stuff. That is amazing to make so much singleplayer story content in game with that fidelity and world. They can go into a lot of directions too with this couple stuff.

It took me 70hrs to beat RDR2 and for long stretches I was only doing story missions too. It was kind of insane. If Rockstar is dialed in with this story like RDR2 it should be special. But yea gameplay is not their strength. Its gonna be driving and storytelling. And other dumb fun with cops on occasion. I'm not expecting anything else to keep my attention.

I'm sure they are cooking up some crazy things for the online portion whenever that launches. But that is gonna be grindy hell with microtransactions and everything. not for me.

Edit: The 30fps stuff isn't surprising either. They were never gonna optimize it for 60 because that will give people less reason to buy the future versions on PS6, etc. They are gonna milk this double dipping for at least the next 10 years. But I would still be pissed if I owned a console today because there have been plenty of open world games with 40-60fps this gen so its gonna be rough playing at 30 with input lag and slow ass R* gameplay. The PC upgrade in 2028 for this, Witcher 4 and Elder Scrolls 6 will be expensive asf. But these type of games are the best justification for spending so much on upgrades.

Apparently I forgot about them doing the change for tags and getting rid of franchise tags like Warhammer and Starwars or Marvel or whatever

But they didnt change or get rid of people having custom settings to do stuff with the old tags, so Yeah my filter with the old tag does nothing

I watched maybe 6 minutes of GTAVI. The graphics on display were impressive as hell. The small details of the glow of a smartphone, reflection on a glass frame hanging on a while, and ceiling fan casting shadows. Man, it’s crazy how much detail Rockstar puts in their games.
Oddly enough I’m still not hyped. Maybe because it’s still essentially a GTA game. Not that that’s a bad thing, but what’s the install going to look like on that sucker? 200GB? With the cost of everything skyrocketing I wish developers weren’t shooting for the moon.

On a side note I heard DLSS 5 leaked. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious to see a bunch of games tested.

I feel like it's gonna be pretty tough for me to parse exactly how much I should care about Zero Company as someone that has literally 0 interest or engagement in Star Wars(i'm talking never even watched any of the movies etc with no interest in ever changing that here) but does care about XCOM

anyone seen any reviews coming at things from that particular perspective?

just to follow up on this I never did really find this but I have watched a bit of gameplay and think i'm pretty much sold on getting it

but the new Fire Emblem game is releasing soon and even though they aren't really that similar they're similar enough that I don't really want to play them so close to each other so i'll probably wait a bit and get it on a sale later
