ok guys, let's try this shit again (now that the servers are upgraded) ... the chat is live! open the thread (there's the stream embed in there) and jump into the EA Play chat room! :) but ...

REMEMBER: ALL mesages posted in the chat will be converted into forum posts in the stream thread ... and they won't get automerged ... so try not to post multiple short messages in a row if possible!!!

see you on the other side ;)

I think the gameplay demo looked solid, even though I'm not too impressed by the graphics and animation.

Feels like it's heavily inspired by the recent AAA titles, from the linear stage design, climbing, cutscenes heavy, RPG elements, to God of War and Souls lite combat. They're taking notes from a lot of successful games, especially Sony first party titles, while not failing to give the emphasize that this is a Star Wars game.

I don't know, it seems like an Uncharted based on the SW universe. The AI didn't put the player in any sort of hard spot, they were just fodder :D Not impressed to be honest...My 2 cents, anyway :p

Well, that was probably the very first mission in the game, and most gameplay demo looked easy anyway. There's probably also difficulty sliders. But I like it that the troopers can be killed in 1-2 hits. It makes the lightsaber felt deadly. Elite enemies AI needs improvements though.

Even adjusting expectations because it was raw gameplay... yeah, I wasn't really impressed. It didn't look bad or anything, but not something I would pay full price for (specially with what EA charges over here) and in theory this game should be exactly what I want :p

However, nothing appears to fundamentally terrible, and a couple of tweaks in AI behavior, animations, and so on can probably make it look a lot better.

I think they mentioned it was 3 hours in...

They did (just checked rewinding on Youtube to make sure). At this point one would assume the "training wheels" are off.

A really hope that was on easy, because otherwise the AI is really terrible.

Sims 4 is still a thing? They have so many addons to this crap I wonder what poor bastard is unfortunate enough to keep buying all of them.
Millions, Sims is more successful than ever.

Here they talk about the devs openly talking about their inspirations including Metroid Prime. I wasn't too impressed by the demo but after getting more context I'm checking out cdkeys for a cheap-ish preorder.

I won't link to any article but that whole Peter Bright/Art Technica 'thing', yikes, as someone who used to read a lot of Ars including his articles about Windows and sometimes gaming, yeah, feeling icky. Especially after seeing some of his old comments and tweets, couldn't have been more obvious. Which also makes me question Ars Technica's vetting process. Won't be going there again any time soon.

Downunder.
Looks like I didn't miss anything by skipping EA's conference. The Star Wars title wasn't even an RPG!

Electronic Arts announced three new EA Originals titles from Zoink Games, Glowmade, and Hazelight Studios for consoles and PC at EA Play 2019.

EA Originals supports up-and-coming studios by “showcasing unique, innovative games to more players on all platforms.” Previous EA Original titles include Coldwood Interactive’s Unravel and Unravel Two, Zoink Games’ Fe, Hazelight Studios’ A Way Out, and the July 5-due Sea of Solutidefrom Jo Mei Games.

Here is an overview of each new title, via Electronic Arts:

Zoink Games

Zoink’s Lost in Random is another stand out fantasy action adventure from the studio that brought you the magical EA Originals title, Fe. Lost in Random brings a brand-new spin on the genre, in a blend of strategy and action that explores the notion of chance and possibility, set within a beautifully dark and vivid world.
Glowmade
A co-op Action-RPG, RustHeart follows the player and their handmade robot sidekick as they adventure across a vibrant, alien multiverse. Glowmade’s RustHearttaps into the simple joy of creating in a uniquely cooperative setting: a compelling mix of tactical action-roleplay gameplay, player invention and spray paint.

Hazelight Studios
Hazelight Studios’ continues to cement their reputation for delivering story-driven, co-operative, and highly unexpected experiences, following the success of EA Originals title, A Way Out. Returning with a completely new title, Hazelight’s unannounced game promises to give players a fresh new take on the challenges of working together.

I'm glad that EA is still doing this. I wish Ubi would go back to making smaller games like they did for a bit. Every big publisher/developer should have little projects.

Edit: also, I really don't give a shit about that star wars game. Tired of everything with that license needing to be a goddamn blockbuster all the time.

First.. nice of EA for doing this kind of thing, but I wish it didn't have to be such a PR move to say "we support smaller projects". You would think that it's obvious that everyone always going after the next "blockbuster" is a bad idea. Other entertainment industries long ago figure it out that is healthy to have projects of all sizes/budgets. It is also a great way to keep your talent happy and foster creativity (that maybe will even lead to the "next big thing").. but I suppose that requires to give a crap about your talent in the first place...

EDIT:

👀👀👀

that's the new PC gamepass app
That actually looks... decent. But let's see if it actually works :p

I really hope that they decouple it from the OS so you don't get those mysterious bugs tied to the state of the account you are using on Windows.

yup, UWP is dead and buried

but i suppose that new app also means gamepass won't be tied to steam in any way (as some people were hoping)
Honestly if the app is good and you can actually download your fucking games I would seriously consider using the app. I have no problems with Microsoft having their own app/client, the way I use UPlay for my Ubisoft games, just that Windows Store is so.fucking.bad I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Of course having their games on Steam AND the new store is much more appreciated :p

If it were not for the Sims 3/4, my wife wouldn’t understand my love for gaming. She has religiously played this series since like 2010; she enjoys building on it the most. I dabble here and there, but “I play all the games.”

Sims 4 is solid, I don't get why people still is bashing it to this day (maybe because I'm a sucker that owns every Sims 3 expansion on Steam and will probably buy all Sims 4 content as time goes too). Also even not playing regularly anymore I always take a look at some community creations. Some houses / lots that are published by fans invested on it are insanely well-made.

If not for the Sims series my mom never would have played any games. Thanks to that series she's broadened her horizons a little and plays some easier RPG's and turn based strategy games.

I picked up the Sims 4 for her during last Christmas as well as most of the dlc and it's really renewed her love of the games. After all of the years of her supporting my gaming habit it's been kind of nice to be able to share some of that with her and bond over sharing creations in Sims or helping her in co-op with other games sometimes.
