I initially thought the price was a tad high compared to the regular model, but then I remembered that I bought mine at launch for 330 euros. Decent discount then. If I didn't already have one, I'd probably go for this model. I wouldn't mind the loss of IR and the frankly terrible rumble (which I've got turned off at a system level 99% of the time).

Seems to be slightly bigger then the Vita. No HD rumble makes sense since I don't remember any game that used it decently. Pretty good for people who only use it as a dedicated handheld if the battery is improved where are the transparent colors tho

Mario Odyssey, Golf Story and Flinthook did HD rumble pretty decently. So that's roughly 1/20th of my library. The rest is god awful buzzing capable of waking my neighbors :')

Yeah, I feel that most gamedevs have no idea what to do with those features. Probably only a select few like you said will take advantage of it.

Nice price, shitty colors. I'd like to get one (if it's sold for 199 or less here too) and some nice Nintendo Selects type deals but next year we might have the New Switch bumping the specs a tad and a while after that a New Switch Lite to match New 2DS. Unless they don't take that upgrade path this time. But I wouldn't mind not having a New version if the new specs don't significantly change functionality (like how the most demanding games played on a non-New 3DS actually disabled some OS features altogether in order to dedicate all the system's power to the game just to run it) and games perform OK enough.

I don't get why they didn't use the original Switch joycon neon and grey colors, they're so much better than these here. Or like the New 2DS colors, they're ok.

Hey that looks pretty good. I like the Aqua and the Pokémon special edition.

I don't think a "pro" type model needs to be TV-only, it'll likely still use a mobile chipset tegra type variant thing and can viably work as a portable.

I could see a Switch TV that is like the Lite, cheap and TV only (but likely far less sales potential in most regions so maybe not).

And then eventually a New Switch, New Lite, New TV (if TV is a thing too) with bumped specs released in that order.

Hmh I've been wanting to get a switch and might get this! I would only use it in handheld mode anyway. Seems the screen is slightly smaller, wonder if that would be an issue?

I don't think so? It should look better if anything, all other things being equal. It's not lower res so, higher PPI. It's not that much smaller to make text an issue.

Well they could theoretically use worse quality screens overall to have more with issues like yellow tints or ghosting or whatever so wait for reviews :)

I always use my Switch on portable mode so this one looks very attractive since it has more battery life. But we'll see.

Screen is slightly smaller. System is shorter too. Battery performance is same according to specs....but this would be perfect for me.

Except I let the students smash each other.

I am so rarely using my Switch that this new version will be get a hard pass from me.

Still, with Astral Chain and Link's Awakening coming soon, the console will see much more usage in the next months (and I still have to continue my Trials of Mana playthrough and return to Xenogears 2 some day as well).

Hmm, family is an harsh mistress...

  • Hey look mom, Nintendo finally pulled out their heads from their asses and announced the new Switch SKU. Cheaper !
  • You wot mate, portable only ? We can't play Kirby on the TV together ?
  • But it's cheaper.
  • Pass.
She's got a point. But I will miss the dpad and the price.

Yay, this is what I was waiting for! A portable only, sized down version!

It doesn't sacrifice any power does it? As long as the Portable mode between OG Switch and this one is comparable, I'll be happy.

Same SoC internals, better battery performance.

Does better battery performance come from the smaller screen or did they underclock the chips? Guess I'll have to wait for like Digital Foundry or other tech publications to get their hands on it and see?

Another thing I'm curious about is pixel density of the screen. Like same amount of pixels as regular Switch but compressed to a smaller screen? Or did they lower resolution...

I saw some rumor that you can't change the brightness. The sad thing is that it is completely idiotic, but with Nintendo, you never now.

And it seems that it is due to the smaller screen that it has better battery. (supposedly between 3 and 7 hours). I saw a post claiming '100% more battery life on BOTW', but dunno.

Oh god I hope that isn't true. I have never liked the default brightness of Nintendo handhelds. :face-with-cold-sweat:

PSP and Vita on the otherhand would always get nice and bright! 👌

I already own a Switch and I'm very interested on this one since most of my games are played portable, and mostly digital, BUT I'll wait for reviews as well.

If I were Nintendo, I'd hold the Pro as a Switch 2 and let it be completely BC.

IMO, I think that Nintendo should hold off until 2022 for it's Switch successor for more incredible graphics.

I agree with both of you, the upgrade won't be a big deal because the games must run in the other versions. With that in mind, the next step should be to deliver a meaningful improvement with a new console. That will be the key to keep the 3rd party interest alive and kicking.

Handheld-only? When my wrists can take handheld gaming for 15 minutes only in one session, doesn't seem like a good product for me. And with how bad quality the original Joycons are I don't see this product being great value if you gotta send it to warranty every 2 months when the sticks start drifting, here's hoping they fixed that though since they actually got D-pad this time.
Still waiting for Pro myself.

I still think this should have an HDMI out port, even if it's a handheld system. Having a proper d-pad seems great, wish there were official Joy-Cons with it, and that the one in the Pro Controller didn't suck so much.

If I were Nintendo, I'd hold the Pro as a Switch 2 and let it be completely BC.
Hopefully that's the case. I don't want to feel like my purchase became obsolete due to a new revision. Although I could always skip it and buy the next version, but we all know I wouldn't :p

I think Nintendo knows that outside nerds like us on game forums, nobody actually wants a more powerful Switch.

That is true BUT if they want to receive ports from the ps5 and xbox releases, the new machine must be capable to keep up with the lowest graphical settings, etc. One of the things that Nintendo has finally accomplished is bring back big names like Bethesda, EA and so on.

In that sense, they have a couple of years to do the jump so a pro revision is probable.

My two cents :p ;)

Well, kinda. EA already gave up with FIFA lol
