I don't get it why people are so angry at them being successful, they are dumb fun that movies have been chock full for tens of years and I'd rather have THEM than another bout of Twilighty movies.

Of course deeper more thought out movies won't do well in theaters thanks to audience being mainly teens and people who think that they are teens (I love going to the movies) so they get delegated to "release on DVD/Blu-Ray" but it's not the fault of the blockbuster movies. It's 'cause people aren't going to the movies to see these low-key films. They want hamfisted action with large emotions and bigger fists.

I love 'em, but I wish people conditioned by the bland sameness of the Marvel machine would be more open to more interesting, different takes on familiar stories. I'll fight a motherfucker over the DC movies (not including JL or Suicide Squad), but even if you hate them you have to at least admit they tried to do something different with the characters. I do feel like there are just too damn many at this point...I haven't even seen Dr. Strange, Black Panther or the new Ant-Man yet, and Infinity War waited until it hit blu-ray. Once you start mining C-listers like the three I mentioned above, the well is pretty close to running dry.

The Incredibles is my all time favorite superhero movie and one of the best Pixar joints. I really want to see the sequel.

They should give them a different feel. As they are now Thor Ragnarok is the only one that has it's own flair to it while the others are lightly comedic punch'o'dramas. And like I said I have no big issue over this since I find the movies mainly entertaining. DC would've been so good if they'd kept on making the movies dark without the silliness and Marvel aping. Man of Steel is a good movie, if the Batman VS Superman wouldn't have been such a letdown (goddamn mopboy Jesse as Lex wtf?) they still could've salvaged the movieverse.

Basically the same reason people don't like pop music.
It's popular culture. It's everywhere. The longer these movies have the amount of success they do, the more suffocating it can become.

That being said, I think Marvel has made improvements over the course of their Phase 3 films. They injected personality into them, with varying success, but at least it felt a little less plain-white-toast than the first 5 or 6yrs of Marvel movies. I wish DC would get their act together. I have a soft spot for Snyder's artistic vision and cinematography... but he's not a great director, and most of those movies were saddled with messy scripts. I think Wonder Woman, outside of the main antagonist, was as good as most of the MCU. Eisenberg was actually a good rendition of the Lex they were trying to portray, but the script didn't help him at all.
Also... MARTHA
That is all.

I'm fine with super hero movies, and I'm even down with the MCU... They are fun BS and often sci-fi-ish which plays to my taste...
I'm just kinda annoyed that they overshadow everything else at the moment in terms of pop culture as if they are the most important shit in the world.
And the MCU just feels like a really slow moving super expensive TV show at this point which is fine but also kinda boring...

The really good ones like Thor 3 and guardians 1+2 are made by great directors that get fucked by Disney / marvel as a thanks and I feel the movies will be even more by the numbers from here on...

A shame what happened to James Gunn...
And speaking of more "by the sides / different takes" on the formula, Gunns "Super" was great

I think that if they went with what they were doing when they did Thor 2, Ironman 2 etc etc the movies would've started flopping sooner or later. Showing that they do realize that they have to mix it up a bit to keep the genre interesting is a good indication that there's good leadership there. Doctor Strange was still pretty milquetoast and went with the origin stories without any own flair really. I would've liked to see something more there but I guess it's hard to inject personality in to some of these characters. Ant-Man is probably the most boring out there at the moment.

I still havent seen Ant-Man 2 so I have no final verdict on that... Another shame that they "lost" Edgar Wright on the first...
And yes, Marvel showed great instinct shaking things up... but I kinda lost hope after the GOTG debacle...
Was also looking forward to Captain Marvel... but that trailer looked kinda lame, but who knows, maybe the movie delivers...

Cosmic Marvel = best Marvel... not biased at all :p

If they hire Taika Waititi to do a Thor movie I expect them to have SOME form of idea that they need their movies to not be carbon copies of each other. Edgar Wright would've been so good for Ant-Man, now the end result was to be honest, tedious.

Tho considering the superhero movie genre I think they should try and get different directors for them. By different I mean with their totally own flair.

How about a David Lynch or Denis Villeneuve Marvel movie :p

I'm so happy that Denis is doing Dune *dreams*

Let the Wachowskis do a Marvel movie, not even joking... they would deliver hard

Wachowskis? Nah... Their directional style would just add in to the meh movies imo. Outside of Bound and Matrix 1 their movies haven't been specially well made.

David Lynch Doctor Strange movie... That would work :D

Yeah, Speed Racer isnt for everyone...but... that movie is well realized as fuck and should have gotten an editing Oscar...
Its not a bad movie by any means... its just not for the masses... which explains the flopping part :D

Oh shit, I would definitely watch me some Lynch Strange goodness.

I enjoy superhero/comic book films, but I'm now so far behind that it feels overwhelming to catch up. Like, the only recent ones I've seen are Black Panther and Wonder Woman. I haven't seen any Thors, any Captain Americas, Doctor Strange, either Ant-Man, no Spider-Man since the third Raimi one, Infinity War, etc.

At this point I've talked about BvS so much the past few years that I could write a doctoral thesis on Batman's fucking nosehair in the warehouse scene but it's absolutely not a film most people would enjoy if they weren't willing to put in a stupid amount of time to break the film down and keep track of its visual metaphors and comic references. It's an absolute feast for a '90s comic baby like myself but it's a very, very specific type of comic fan it was made for and by. It's basically 1990-1996 DC comics in movie form, and if people aren't fans of that specific era it won't resonate with them at all. Personally the Ultimate Cut is easily my favorite superhero movie of all time, though the original TMNT is neck and neck with it.

It's absolutely not for everyone though, and on one hand I acknowledge why people don't like it even if I disagree, but on the other I'm still shocked that it was even allowed to be made because it's such a 180 from what people we're expecting

Never had a chance to read the comics since I spawned in to a rural area in Finland where the only comics were Donald Ducks.
When I was a kid the only comic my grocery store carried was Ralph Snart. If you Google that you'll see why I was a very, very confused 8 year old.
