The-Penguin-HBO-Series-Review-1200x675.jpg

Late on this as I didn't have time to watch it last year.

But wow what an amazing show. Start to finish.

The Penguin really is one evil mofo. I mean most other characters were pieces of shit too but this guy.....

I loved how all the main characters of the show got proper time to develop and even got whole episodes to do so. You rarely see it in any tv show let alone one with only 8 episodes. The pacing was great. It was basically like a quick season of Sopranos with a lot of violence, revenge and all the regular comic book flare to push some things over the top.

Colin was amazing. The entire cast was great. Strong recommend for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. especially if you have MAX. This basically starts as that last Batman movie ended if you are wondering.

I'm surprised they didn't do this for the Joker sequel as well... instead of that musical. Villains need long shows imo. It just fits better.

I watched Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Story is whatever but man the actions are good. That plane scene on the poster. I just don't know how they pulled it off.

It seems I can only gather the will to watch things in the summer, when it's hot and my headset is killing me, so... I obviously splurged on several streaming services at the same time.

So Love Death Robots s4 was a catastrophe. When your episodes are at best 15 min long you better bring your A team, and well, they didn't. Not even touching the topic of the sub 10 minutes episodes. A joke.
I really liked the Bomber episode. at least it told something you can call a story. Good monster design, great gore (even if it's super not my thing), a little too derivative of Mignola, but hey, given the rest of the episodes...

And I watched the first two episodes of The Eternauts and I liked it. The budget was obviously on chewing gum and shoe strings, it is slow too. But yeah, good solid atmosphere, always delivering enough for me to want to watch the next episode.

Got a blu ray copy of Match Point, the Woody Allen tennis one with Scarlet Johansson for $1 from a charity store. Apparently it's long out of print and worth north of $35.

Also I watch terrible TV!

Watched the recent 4K bluray release of Aliens last night.

Mixed bag for me. Lots of scenes looked really great, massive increase in detail from the Anthology bluray boxset which is how I saw it last.
But then a few too many scenes look overly clean and fake.
Like they feel too touched up, also a lot of the old effects-mainly shots of the spaceships from the outside really show their age in this version, which is to be expected I guess.

Fantastic film though.

Final Destination Bloodlines becomes my favorite FD movie. The script was excellent, and it found a good balance between breaking and preserving the conventions. It's my first time watching a FD movie in a cinema. The sound effects definitely added to the whole experience, too.

Catching up these two horror gems that I didn't get to see last year.

And yea both films were amazing.

Oddity was terrifying. Almost the entire film takes place in that creepy two stair barn room or wtvr. Definitely up there with the best low budget films from recent years. Made me uneasy watching because the director really dragged out the spooky/suspenseful scenes. Very rare that a horror movie makes me want to pause the film or mute it because you know something is about to happen. And the buildup was very slow in this but done well. An interesting style for sure and this director needs to make more.

And Smile 2 was really good as well. Much better than what I remember from the first film. But this one really goes the distance in showing how hopeless you are if this demon possesses you. This kind of felt like a good modern day Nightmare on Elm street movie only this fucker haunting you is so much worse than Freddy in some nightmare. The reveal of her old friend not even really being there for half of that movie was fucked up. You can make a case that only like the first 20 minutes of this film was real the rest was all her delusion. Her brain really was fried by like day 2 or 3 of the possession. Its really crazy.

But yea strong recommend for both of these films if you like horror. Check them out.
