With no Red Dead Redemption 2 PC release we sent Noa looking for the best games like Red Dead Redemption for PC. There are loads of great cowboy games, so here are some of the best Western games you can play right now on PC. May contain rootin’ and tootin’.
We kick off our list of best Western games on Steam with the might Call of Juarez: Gunslinger and Gun - both in the Spaghetti Western tradition, with one offering the open world action of Red Dead and the other putting you inside the head of an ace gunfighter. If you like popping heads with hot lead, these will certainly scratch that itch.
For a different take on Westerns on PC, maybe look to Westerado or Luckslinger, both tales of 2D cowboys who are quick on the draw. Westerado’s more of a murder mystery game as you hunt the scum who plugged your family, while Luckslinger has you collecting luck in order to dodge bullets and avoid falling down holes. You also have a duck that collects knives for you. Red Redemption 2 don’t have that.
If you find yourself regularly asking is Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, why not distract yourself with Hard West - a bit like XCOM with cowboys (and some devils) - or Desperados, the classic real-time tactics game that is due to storm back onto PC next year with Desperados 3. Man that one looks good. No wonder Red Dead Redemption 2 decided to release in 2018, wouldn’t want to be up against Desperados.
Finally we have the delightful world of West of Loathing, which is a parody of the best Westerns, but is actually a pretty authentic experience at the same time. It’s got a working spittoon and everything. And you’ll also enjoy SteamWorld Dig 2 (or the original), which is a steampunk cowboy adventure about mining and adventuring deep beneath the soil.
