I really don't know why Boiling Point entered my head rather than Far Cry or similar. I have Boiling Point and The Precursers around here somewhere. Overly ambitious for a small studio, buggy and janky and with some of the best patch notes you'll ever read! Good times.

IronSparkster202 Agreed. Once i got used to the game it was fine but the bullet-sponge hit-scanning enemies towards the end just weren't fun as i recall.

Looks like they're going for early access, after all. But there's also a closed beta phase and they're inviting people randomly through discord & newsletter.

Never heard of this game before now but it looks pretty interesting. Hopefully it turns out good, glad they were willing to delay.

I was unaware of this game, and it looks right up my alley.

Janky, clunky, overly ambitious. Just like I like them. :giggle:

I've seen a few older videos with animal transformations, and some weird crap in it. (y)

A few users already mentioned Boiling Point. I played that game countless hours, and a few elements of this game appear to have some similarities to it, so I'll definitely be on the lookout for this one.

I would love to get it, but money's a bit tight.
But, I'm sure to buy it sooner or later. It seems like my kind of "jank". :giggle:

No reviews yet, as expected, but from the early gameplay videos I've seen it's very Ubsoft-like. Clearing camps with a heavy focus on stealth as there are bushes everywhere. You can even tag the enemies so you can see them patrolling around the camp. However, the stealth seems a bit messy, sadly.

The developers significantly dropped the price of the game yesterday:

The previous price was a bit high for an "impulse" buy, so I was waiting for a small sale, so the new price made me "jump in".

The reviews say exactly what I expected: it's an overly ambitions game, especially for a 5 person team, that has an interesting premise and story, and plenty to do, but lacks polish and is buggy.
But, that's exactly how I like my indie open world games: messy and "janky". :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

it reminds the good old and messy games like Boiling Point ot Precursors ... which were pretty much that junky overly ambitious "far cry" clones ... but deep down under all the mess pretty fun games
I absolutely adore Boiling Point.
So much, in fact, that I frequently bother publishers to re-release the game.

Boiling Point is still one of my favourite open world games ever.
You had an unparalleled freedom compared to other games in the genre. You could do pretty much anything you wanted, like killing quest givers. Nothing was safe. You had plenty of ways to reach your goals. Since every object had weight, you could kill or stun people by throwing or dropping down objects. I had a lot of fun throwing grenades to the heads of people. It would drop them to the ground, and even if they survived the hit, they were now on the ground, and the explosion afterwards would kill them.

The game launched with plenty of bugs (the most serious ones were fixed), and I kept reading the game needed 6 more months, as if the team would polish the game with 6 more months. No, if they had 6 more months, they would surely throw in even more content, and crazy stuff! :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:
The lack of polish was a result of the ridiculous ambition and scope of the game, especially for the budget they had available, but I'll gladly take that, instead of the polished, but completely "sterile" open world games companies like Ubisoft release.

None of those big companies have the "balls" to release a game with the scope of Boiling Point.
I mean, I remember a mission where I needed something from a bank, or an embassy. I remember I could:
-go there, kill everyone, and get it (which would result in an "army" of people chasing after me);
-wait for business hours to end, and lock-pick the door (or, explode the door; you could blow up pretty much anything), and steal it;
-you could impersonate another person, go meet the manager, and steel it;
-bribe someone to give you access to it;
-ask the cashier out on a date, and convince her to help you (or steal her key).

I miss Deep Shadows. :cry:
For those unaware, they were former GSC staff that worked on Codename: Outbreak. Part of the team left, and created Boiling Point. The other remained, and developed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. .

Jaguars no longer fly.
Old Lady Flower Sellers do not throw grenades at you any more.
Shooting the Moon does not crash the game after a few shots.

I'm sure there's others i've forgotten but BPRTH's patch notes were something else at times.
Loved it.

edit: For clarity Funktion and i are talking about a game called "Boiling Point - Road To Hell" a massivly ambitious FPS/RPG for it's time that was notorious for crazy bugs and glitches but had a heart. Deep Shadows were also the developers behind XENU: The Precursors. Again, massively ambitious and broken FPS/Space game, i wish it had a stable English translation.

Ashes of Oahu for some reason brought Boiling Point to mind.

The Jaguars bit was legendary, :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I remember an interesting "triple" review from Eurogamer, in which they reviewed it from the point of view of someone interested in a polished product, and gave it a low score; then, from the point of view of someone how could enjoy the game past the bugs and lack of polish, and gave it an awesome score, while praising the scope, and ridiculous amount of freedom and depth the game had; and finally, a review that combined both, and gave it a medium score.

In a way, it was appropriate. Some people were unable to view the game past its bugs, and lack of polish, and didn't enjoy it. Those who did, however, found plenty to enjoy.

It was an interesting game, to say the least, and I wish the team was still around, and releasing games like this one.

Shooting the moon. This reminds me of the game Terminator: Future Shock. If you shoot the moon long enough it goes down. :)
