Bandai Namco has announced Blue Protocol, an original new online action RPG for PC developed by “Project Sky Blue,” a joint project team formed by Bandai Namco Online and Bandai Namco Studios.

Blue Protocol is set in a world spun by “overwhelming graphics along the lines of anime movies” and incorporates multiplayer action that utilizes the qualities of an online game. It runs on Unreal Engine 4.
Seems like the game is not that far off from release in Japan as they're already preparing for closed alpha at the end of July.

More details and screenshots at Gematsu:

Looks good, and it has more than 3 frames a second, a miracle for an online game.
Already an alpha though? Seems much further along than expected.

Everything looks nice except the fact its online. If they were pimping it as another solo (maybe co-op too) JRPG project from Bandai Namco I'd be less wary of potential gameplay problems/design issues than an online focused game can present instead, putting roadblocks in progress for grinding or having simpler scenarios than a focused single player experience can offer and such. We'll see though :)

I'm quite unsure about this. Is it an MMO? A more story-focused RPG with online coop? An online-mission-focused-but-not-quite-MMO grind type game?

The glimpses of world design look nice.

Nothing confirmed from the trailer and description so far, but I believe it'll be mission-focused where you can go solo or co-op at will (PSO2/Monster Hunter), while you can meet other players in the city hub.

Nice, I couldn't tell it's an online game from that combat clip, nice enemy tells and the ability to block and dodge. Even action-type MMORPGs like Tera tend to limit such player capabilities so they end up feeling like any regular old MMORPG in the end, just spamming your hotkey skills and what not and only occasionally dodging or blocking as those tend to be on cooldown also (or the blocking is active but just mitigates damage rather than cancel it).

Combat wise it makes me think of games like PSO2 in its early days or Monster Hunter World.

(The current PSO2 is alot more...dunno...floaty? than what it used to be, there's alot more focus on movement than in the early days.)

Though I wonder if it'll be an open online game like MMOs or a lobby based online game with instanced dungeons.

Looks good, I'm definitely getting Monster Hunter vibes from that combat. Wondering if it will have that smaller scale online play too (also ala Destiny) rather than full MMO.

The lack of feedback from attacks is going to bother me immensely. :disappointed-but-relieved-face:

I kinda still had hope after that short clip from a while ago, but this kinda confirms it. I hope it's just the beta.
