BlasphemousGame - website

Blasphemous is a punishing action-platformer that combines the fast-paced, skilled combat of a hack-n-slash game with a deep and evocative narrative core, delivered through exploration of a huge universe comprised of non-linear levels.

A foul curse has fallen upon the land of Cvstodia and all its inhabitants - it is simply known as The Miracle.

Play as The Penitent One - a sole survivor of the massacre of the ‘Silent Sorrow’. Trapped in an endless cycle of death and rebirth, it’s down to you to free the world from this terrible fate and reach the origin of your anguish.

Explore this nightmarish world of twisted religion and discover its many secrets hidden deep inside. Use devastating combos and brutal executions to smite the hordes of grotesque monsters and titanic bosses, all ready to rip you limb from limb. Locate and equip relics, rosary beads and prayers that call on the powers of the heavens to aid you in your quest to break your eternal damnation.

Explore a Non-Linear World: Overcome fearsome enemies and deadly traps as you venture through a variety of different landscapes, and search for redemption in the dark gothic world of Cvstodia.

Brutal Combat: Release the power of Mea Culpa, a sword born from guilt itself, to slaughter your foes. Acquire devastating new combos and special moves as you purge all in your path.

Executions: Unleash your wrath and relish in the gory dismemberment of your adversaries - all in beautifully rendered, pixel-perfect execution animations.

Customise Your Build: Discover and equip Relics, Rosary Beads, Prayers and Sword Hearts to give you the new abilities and stat boosts you need to survive. Experiment with different combinations to suit your playstyle.

Intense Boss Battles: Hordes of gigantic, twisted creatures stand between you and your goal. Learn how they move, survive their devastating attacks and emerge victorious.

Unlock the Mysteries of Cvstodia: The world is full of tormented souls. Some offer you aid, some may ask for something in return. Uncover the stories and fates of these tortured characters to gain rewards and a deeper understanding of the dark world you inhabit.

Backer's Beta coming August 30th!

We are pleased to announce that we have a date for Backer's Beta! After publishing the three pre-production prototypes, you'll finally be able to try out the real deal: a big section of the final game will be exclusively available only for backers of "The Follower" tier and up, on Friday 30th August.

What's included:
This demo will include a completely new and unrevealed portion of the game: you'll be the first ones to play these levels, including an epic boss fight at the end, against the twisted "Three Anguishes".

This section of the game features all the mechanics present in the game:
  • Unlockable combat abilities.
  • Upgradeable combat stats.
  • Breakable walls revealing secret areas.
  • A variety of enemies.
  • Exploration.
  • Finding, purchasing and equipping inventory items, including prayers, relics, rosary beads, and sword hearts.
  • Collectibles scattered across the levels.

Played first few bosses, 2½ hours and got up to 29% map completion, I'm loving it. One part was bit faster since I was familiar with it from the demo.
This has been great year for Metroidvanias!

The art in this is stunning and so grotesque, amazing time for pixel art between Blasphemous and Children of Morta(don't let this pass you by if you like gauntlet).

Haven't had issues with inconsistent platforming jumps that some have but the lack of a drop down function can be frustrating for some downward areas that require you to fall diagonally without hitting the ledge or spikes lol. Would be a much smoother game if they added a drop button.

Yeah, only issue I have with platforming is really going down and character grabs the ledge of platform I wanted to drop down from.
Pixel art in this is something very special :blobxorcism:

The best thing going for Blasphemous so for is its thematic and art direction. I have yet to encounter a generic enemy, albeit they function similar to various enemy types in your standard metroidvania. I have yet to acquire a skill or ability that has wowed me though. So far, it has been formulaic in that regard. The hand-drawn art and unique enemy encounters is what keeps me going.

Exactly, I think it's very well designed game in general, all areas and enemies feel really like they belong there, if that makes sense.
