Information leaked thanks to the German Ministry of Transport, Construction and Urban Development, which also deals with digital infrastructure. It has granted more than 1.5 million euros in funding to the team at Claymore Game Studios, owned by Kalypso, for the development of a project called Commandos: Origins.
"Commandos: Origins" is a tactical strategy game that takes place in the first half of World War II and tells the story of a newly founded British commando unit that grows into a brotherhood during its operations against strategic goals of the German Wehrmacht. The player will control different characters with different abilities from an isometric perspective of the playing field and use them strategically in such a way that the given mission goal is achieved. So you will work your way through the various missions based on historical locations and missions to the respective goal.
Back in January 2020 Kalypso media announced formation of a new internal game development studio based in Greater Frankfurt to develop a next-generation entry in the Commandos strategy game series for consoles and PC. The still-to-be-named studio is led by industry veteran Jurgen Reubwig.
“The establishment of a new studio is a clear commitment to Kalypso’s growth plans for the coming years as we looked to expand our internal and external development efforts,” said Kalypso Media Group managing director and founder Simon Hellwig in a press release. “Commandos is a great, globally-recognized brand and we will do our utmost to meet the expectations of the worldwide gaming community. We can’t wait to get started.”
Studio director Jurgen Reubwig added, “At the new site we’ll be looking to develop a truly worthy successor to Commandos, designed for both PC and console platforms for simultaneous worldwide release. On a personal level, I couldn’t be prouder to be working on a true icon of strategy gaming, and I’m looking forward to receiving applications from new and experienced developers alike that share our passion for the series.”
