Publisher Devolver Digital and Titan Souls developer Acid Nerve have announced action adventure game Death’s Door for Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC (Steam). It will launch this summer.

Reaping souls of the dead and punching a clock might get monotonous but it's honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death - where creatures grow far past their expiry and overflow with greed and power.

Talon Sharp Combat: Utilize melee weapons, arrows and magic to overcome a fantastic array of beasts and demigods. Mistakes are punished and victory is rewarded. Gain an edge by customizing your character stats and mastering the abilities and upgrades you obtain.

One more game to my wishlist. I wasnt expecting an isometric game base in the first part of the trailer, though the gameplay looks solid.

The dungeons have ladder for climbing, but as a bird you can just fly down. I really love details like this.

Being a Zelda fan and someone like birds, the gameplay and premise looks awesome. I would get this on day 1 if Cris Tales wasn't releasing next month as well.

Its good. Im a fair few hours through it and enjoying it a lot. Has a lovely look to it and the music is awesome, some really nice piano background tunes. The combat is good, not too tricky but if you aren't paying attention you can get dead pretty quickly. Overall its definitely worth the asking price if you like this sort of thing. Its not quite Zelda-y but there is a bit of light puzzle solving throughout the environment which i guess kind of is Zelda-y.

I will mention that ive had controller issues. It has native support but doesn't recognise my Dualsense over Bluetooth so i either have to play with it wired up which i dont like. It wouldnt recognise my controller if i enabled Steam input but i found that if i turn off Bluetooth and then turn it on once the game has loaded i can use the DS but itll have x box prompts. Bit annoying but not putting me off the game.

Do you have generic controller support enabled in Steam? I find that sometimes messes things up. Not entirely sure what it's supposed to do...

Anyway, yeah, it's a really fun game. I still think I enjoy Hyper Light Drifter more overall as far these type of Zelda-style action-adventures go, but that's entirely a personal preference. The boss fights in this have been more enjoyable than HLD at least. Fun to learn and just challenging enough that you've got to lean in a little, while not quite being a sweat fest like Souls or something. And the soundtrack is indeed fantastic. I think I'll pick it up eventually.

I'm seeing people say it's anywhere between 7 and 12 hours. I'll probably land closer to that higher boundary, if not exceed it. I made a little headway into the second major area past the hub, and I've got 5 hours on the in-game timer. I expect I'll want to get as much as I can out of this, so I'll definitely be seeking out the collectible trinkets, of which there are many it seems.

Edit: by the way, I set up a custom binding (via Steam input) so that holding left trigger inputs LT+B on a full pull, making it so you can use your secondary weapons with a single button press. However, I'm finding that when I release the trigger too quickly, it doesn't do the combination input (e,g, the arrow isn't shot like when you release B when holding L separately). Any ideas on why that is?

Double edit: nvm, figured it out. Seems to work perfectly when I add an activator to input L on release of the trigger. I guess activating the secondary weapon depends on L still being held when B is released -- not just releasing B on its own after L has been held.

In case anyone would like to give it a go, here it is. Pretty comfy if I do say so myself.

I have Steam input on general and in the controller config have the Playstation box ticked.

The difficulty is just right for me. I found Titan Souls a little tough and didn't get very far into it. Same with Hyper light Drifter although that game has tons of style so i wish i was a bit better at it. I manage to get through the Souls games usually by summoning and cheesing and overleveling. This is much more my level. I feel like no fight yet has been beyond me, some have taken a few tries but i dont feel like its an impossible task.

Really enjoying it to be honest.

Finished it! That was very fun. I’ll be sticking around for the optional end game stuff as well. The difficulty balancing really is excellent. Not too hard or too easy but juuuust right. For me anyway.

Aaand I one hundo percented it! That didn't take very long. Can't say it was really worth it, but it does shed a little extra light on the game's "lore" and it gave me a reason to play it a little longer. I liked that the game has different ways of telling you where you've got stuff left to do, so you don't have to constantly tab out to a guide to cross reference stuff.

Also: you don't need to max out your stats for 100%. I actually only had enough resources to max one of them. I would personally recommend getting Haste to 5, because you'll be doing a lot of walking around, and the jump from 4 to 5 points actually felt pretty significant. Strength felt like the biggest waste of resources. I think leaving that at 2 or 3 tops to get Haste to 5 earlier is probably the way to go.

Great game. I enjoyed pretty much every minute. One of the things it does really well is that there’s barely any dead air. There’s no errand type gameplay interspersed to pad things out. Very refreshing.

My main gripe would be that the character upgrade system is far too incremental. Everyone who's played it says the same, but it really is oddly balanced compared to everything else. You can barely tell the difference between different upgrade levels of an attribute. And having to collect four trinkets to upgrade health or magic once doesn’t feel great in Zelda, and it doesn’t here either. I think it would feel a lot more satisfying if you get two trinkets and that does it. Then you’re always a state of either just having upgraded or being one away toward your next. That makes for a better anticipation and gratification loop. Similarly, if they’d have cut down the 5 upgrade levels of attributes to three, each would actually feel more substantial on its own.

Even so, I enjoyed my time with it a lot. Really well-made overall. Best money I spent on a game since Hades.
