I just had to search for these quotes...

Airborne Kingdom is a perma exclusive to EGS. Not sure if the contract with Epic is timed and they're just keeping it exclusive on their own or what.

But if the contract is only a year we'll see how long that "lifetime exclusivity" lasts lol
their reasoning, on the other hand ...

Ahem. Released on Steam just now. I didnt know a lifetime is THAT short

lol

i guess this way worked (up for like 2 minutes back when steampage reapeared)

current one
yep. all jokes aside, glad more games are on steam, especially for those that wanted this game on steam, and every single exclusive less on the egs is a plus. so kudos to that publisher for negotiating this out. its just really funny given how these guys were arguing in favour of egs.

I mean, if you are glad more people are going to play your game then why take a deal with EGS, especially one that was meant to be a lifetime exclusive.

I will eventually get around to checking this out at some point. But too much else on my plate at the moment.

I guess these guys really believed in the EGS and that it would overthrow Steam and become the main PC store over time. Plus. sack of money. Sack of money sways many minds.

These devs are just following the playbook of acting smug and talking shit about Steam while ignoring how they're hurting the PC marketplace, then turning around later and acting like they're happy to be on the platform. It's tiresome. Once again, I don't understand how game devs can be this bad at business. This game gives me a gross feeling now -- I wouldn't play it, even if it went on 90% discount. People should learn that not every thought in your head needs to be posted to social fucking media, especially where your business/livelihood is concerned.

This. Afaik these devs are the only ones who signed a lifetime exclusivity deal with Epic, and they have been vocal enough about how much they liked that. They obviously don't give a f*ck about their fans...

700 people playing airborne right now. Pretty good numbers for something with 0 marketing.

They went from "this is a perm exclusive, they're just collecting data" to "we patched it and added achievements" super fast...

With the whole mess over Artesian and the above tweet, it appears that it is very difficult to get anything out of affiliate/ambassador deals. In fact a lot of them seem to be made to screw over streamers and YouTubers.

Fair enough, but this did release late enough to be aware that EGS was a poisoned challice. Anyway, it's all good now. It's no longer locked to EGS.

Almost, Epic fails at getting people to actually buy games.
Thats the problem, those who promote EGS through the affiliate program only earn money if someone buys games. And with the minimum required and expiring cash out, that means those who promote EGS are doing it for free and that is scummy. Its even worse than "paying with exposure" because those who promote doesn't get anything out of it.

For all intents and purposes, this is an Epic first party game ala Sony, MS and Nintendo. I don't like it, but it's less frustrating than third party exclusives.

Part of me thinks EGP titles will show up on Steam at some point due to a Steam version of Alan Wake Remastered appearing in the Nvidia leak.

i guess depends who actually owns the IP ... as iirc Railgrade which is the other ex-IrregularCorp published titles is made by independent devs that just had publishing contract when epic bought IrregularCorp ... so thats not really first party :p

If it wasn't for Tim Sweeney's apparent personal hate for Valve, I suspect EGS would already be a dead platform. I do wonder how much money they intend to throw away though. Other developers & publishers are already aware of how much people do care about the platform they use, so I have to imagine the paychecks need to be pretty large to cover what-would-be-actual-launch-sales of their game, and the losses from coming to platforms like Steam late.

In the meantime, Valve has introduces another reason for potentially millions of players to prefer using Steam: the Steam Deck.

I said it several months (or maybe even years :dizzy-face: ) ago, but had Epic started off on this foot, I would have been a lot less bothered and likely would have used their store like I have used others stores from time-to-time (which is admittedly rare, but not never).

I feel they sort of poisoned the well for me personally and shifting to their publishing strategy just feels like another means by which they get to closer to their weird, hazy metaverse/monopoly/IPO goals that I cannot have any trust in Epic. It seems clear they want to have an influence on a level that I think folks are really downplaying in some spheres. I just do not want yet another repeat of Amazon/Google/etc. where folks handwave a companies ambitions away under this guise of them doing good things for customers (either us or developers/musicians/etc.) today. I would fully admit that I could be wrong about them, I have yet to see anything to the contrary of my concerns.

And to be clear since anytime this comes up, there are some folks who what about Valve or lump comments like mine into Steam fanatics, and yeah, I do not think Valve is my friend in the slightest. I have said before I fear the day Gabe retires/sells/etc. since who knows what happens. I just think Valve has been around long enough and has had numerous opportunities to do things that they have not and it makes me have a bit of trust in them. This is to say nothing of the specifics of the actual Steam platform.

Why is Rocket League and Genshin the only games that have been in the front page carousel for the past 2-3 days? It's manually cuarated by Epic, so they really should put more games into the carousel, especially indie games, since the discovery on EGS in manually (making it terrible).

Also, following todays Steam page of Axiom Verge 2 made me realize how little relevant EGS is my life these days compared to 2019-2020. Basically, EGS is often forgotten in my head the past year compared to when they had games like Satisfactory, Hades, Outer Worlds, Blands 3 etc. as exclusives.

Same here, I actually forgot that axiom verge 2 exists.

So Im utterely shocked of the decisions the EGS people are doing. Im hoping it's a bug. Apparently, in order to see your playtime for a game you've played, you need to install it. Like fucking what. The new library update (well, more an update that gives the Epic library new filtering options) requires you to install the game to see your playtime.

Games with microtransactions matter most, to EGS. They want the whales.

This game is going to be awesome. I had spare MS points so I bought it on Xbox.
Is the gameplay any good? Because if not, watching a Youtube playthrough would seem like a better option in order to enjoy the "so bad it's good" stuff.

I've only played the E3 demo and I thought the gameplay was great. It's basically Nioh but with a FInal Fantasy skin and I love Nioh's gameplay.

No cash came out of my pocket, but I won't deny I feel a bit dirty rewarding SE even if I technically used the equivalent of Monopoly money.

New EGP title.

Changing subjects, I noticed there are EGS keys for Tiny Tina available on the Humble, Fanatical and Green Man Gaming. There are no discounts on Humble (even with my Choice subscription) or Fanatical. There is a 17% discount on Green Man though.

Now, while I find this funny and still dislike Epics exclusivity deals, I have to ask something.

What the fuck are Epic doing? They have paid a shit ton of money for these exclusives and yet they are happily throwing out and ignoring the condition of the likes FFVIIR and now this. I mean if I was paying for an exclusivity deal and this was the shit I was getting I would be furious as it just looks like Square are taking the piss.

It really just re-affirms that they only want to fuck over Valve with these deals. I have seen no evidence that they give a flying fuck about how the games are released.

But more importantly it re-affirms that I am correct in never spending a single penny there.

I really think Epic should’ve put quality clauses in their exclusivity deals.

Busted ports and bad games as exclusives hurts their rep as bad as the creator’s.

But this happens time and time again, from multiple different developers and publishers.

In my mind it shows how wet behind the ears they are and naive they’ve been in building their platform. And how dreadful the third parties have been in exploiting them for it.

EGS just has a rep as user-paid QA 12 months before the Steam release now. Any game I see going exclusive (that isn’t published by Epic) just rings alarm bells for me now.
