Epic had to ween off the coupons at some point. They were hemorrhaging money especially with indie and cheaper games. The 25% coupon will probably get lowered to 20% in a year or so. After that, who knows? Coupons were a big traffic driver and without them they just become a worse Steam.

Ironically Ubisoft is running a $10 coupon for their store right now. I would have used it to get the Anno 1800 season 4 DLC if it were discounted.

I gotta wonder if they are going to do their "year in review" for this year, have they even had any big exclusive games this year so far? Their revenue for this year already gotta be very low compared to the other years.

I think third party revenue is going to see a significant bump this year simply due to Genshin being monetized for an entire 12 months as Epic payment processing was added last November. First party revenue will probably see an increase due to Fall Guys, which will get a second wind after going F2P.

In terms of exclusives, so far they have had Tiny Tina and Evil Dead as their biggest games this year. Saint's Row will do well. Otherwise it does seem kinda dry right now, but Game Fest is only a few weeks away and there's plenty of exclusives they can get. :evilblob:

That's what we thought last year too, but it was pretty dry for Epic.
I would be happy to be wrong. Besides, the rest of 2022 is looking pretty barren in general since publishers tried to cram everything into Q1 and there have been numerous delays. I'm fine with that though since I can catch up on other games.

that sweet curation and no porny games is going well
How in the heck did this make it on there? I assume the 18+ content will be excluded from Epic, but Epic must be okay with that as long as you have to go off site to download it?

Edit: My guess is Epic hardly checks these things and it would not surprise me if they just saw the game is popular on Steam and approved it without knowing, I mean they have already approved asset flips despite saying how assets flips would not be sold on their store unlike Steam.

I came across an interview with Tim Sweeney in the Financial Times. Most of it is metaverse, Apple and Google are the spawn of Satan and so forth. The most interesting thing I saw was that Fortnite was quoted to be at 70 million MAUs which is down from 80 million MAUs in 2020. Granted the 2020 number was due to it being peak stay at home season for COVID as well as it being right before they were pulled from the App Store and Google Play.

Also there was this quote where he handwaved the Oculus store taking 30%.

My understanding is that, on Oculus [Meta’s virtual reality technology] platforms currently, Oculus runs a store and they charge the fee of 30 per cent but they don’t force all developers to use their store and they don’t block competing stores, so it’s not analogous to the Apple situation.

Two Take2 games in a row as freebies?

I guess someone high up in the company needs a new yacht.

Almost everything Epic said that they would do with EGS turned out to be a lie. They are still very much on track about the things they said they wouldn't do though, like adding forums, user reviews, discovery or innovative features. 😉
Apparently their review system is close to rolling out and has no text, just a rating and high level questions

I wonder if it was removed due to the coupon and not wanting to have it apply

It's currently 25% off at Fanatical and Green Man so I think that can be ruled out. If anything you'd think they'd want it on EGS because of the higher cut and presumably more sales volume than a key site.

Maybe they didn’t want to support another version. While releasing on EGS is not like releasing a console game, we’ve seen several instances of bugs in the EGS and Windows Store versions that the Steam version doesn’t have.

Why bother spending money making your game work with Epic’s store/API/service and whatever when no one is going to buy it and Epic aren’t carrying the can for it?

Do we have sales number for earlier Rebellion EGS experiments? Your reasoning seems likely to me but id love to see their numbers so we can back it up

Plot twist; Tim now has to pay developers/publishers if he wants their games on EGS at all.

Sniper Elite 5 was pulled as Tim must not have ponied up the money in time.
Supposedly they already had to with Cyberpunk 2077. (though recoupable).

“Due to circumstances beyond our control Sniper Elite 5 was not available on the Epic Store at launch but will release on that platform in the future,” it said. “We apologise for any inconvenience.”

In case you wanted to read an advertorial about Grit.

Gala Games’ GALA token has a market capitalization of $520 million, which is far below its peak in November of $5.4 billion.
Looks like a sound investment to me.

Ignoring all the NFT bullshit for a couple of seconds. But who releases a Battle Royale games on platform that hosts Fortnite? I mean what are they expecting. I mean how do you compete with something that will have the Star Wars licence behind it for the next month or so, then it will move on to Disney or Marvel or DC or Street Fighter.

Then you add NFT's to the equation which, while picking up, do not have the greatest of reputations at the moment. Hell even when they are being sold at high prices there is always some scam going on. Hell there are a few youtube channels that thrive on reporting on the failures, scams and collapses.

Sounds like yet another NFT scheme/scam/grift that is doomed to failure.
