|OT| Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium | Klukai: "I am all you need" (March 20th)

I checked on the iOS app store and the publisher listed is Sunborn Network Technology Co. Ltd. Who is the actual real publisher of the game lol

And it's Haoplay on my PlayStore :D
They are both the "real publishers", but I dunno why it has to be this way, lol. (Sunborn == Mica == self-publishing)

Both are real, but they didn't explain the publishing situation to the public lol. I think it depends on your region. Sunborn is self-publishing EN, but somehow there's also a haoplay site in English. Maybe it is meant to be used by European?

JP / KR / TW are all haoplay only.

Huh, I didn't know that about the Hoyo games on Steam. That's unfortunate. I was hoping GFL2 on Steam would mean I could play on Deck, but if the Steam version is gonna be gimped compared to the regular PC version than I'd rather not...

Quick summary:
  • Weight of dolls differs between models, but they are not heavy enough to crush furniture
  • Release date comes shortly after CBT
  • Event and banner schedule will be different from CN. Sojourners of the Glass Island will be the first event. Part 1 and 2 will be available at the same time (Great decision imo because it's the event involving (doll name) Suomi)
  • Covenant (oath system) at launch
  • Some skins from GFL1 will appear in GFL2
  • Collaboration with other Mica games (GFL and PNC) is in development. Other possible collaborations are under consideration
  • Simple introduction of the gameplay
  • OST will be released once there are enough songs for it
  • Photo mode is under evaluation
  • The team browses fan content regularly
  • Regarding publisher: the content is the same between both publishers but account ownerships are different. No cross region play
  • 120 free pulls in total if objectives before launch are reached. Announcement coming during CBT period
  • Development team joined official discord

Also a GFL megaton news
M16 is back

Reference Table of Dolls' Name in GFL1/2
I quickly made a reference table of dolls' name in GFL1 and 2. Put a threadmark so you can jump to the post easily.

I have only included launch units here. Going to update the table once new dolls are added to the game.

Looks like there is also a CBT for haoplay server. First-come-first-serve.

By the way, which server is everyone looking to play on for the actual release? I know Steam (Haoplay) is nice and convenient for a lot of people but not everyone has access whereas MICA should just be a download on their website so everyone should be able to access it right?

Congrats! I got nothing, so it looks like I need to try the battle royale route. :cold-sweat:

May the odds be ever in your favour.

Thank you. Have fun! I will be playing the PC version from Mica site. Seems to be the safest one if you plan to play it for years to come.

Didn't make it in myself either. But two people in my Sunborn discord have and they're allowed to Stream/Clip.

For now I'll just stick with catching up on GFL 1 Story.

Gonna go with the official Sunborn/MICA one. Good way to avoid any future licensing issues or whatever.

Is anyone playing the CBT? I managed to get in the haoplay one and just now finished chapter 1. It is exactly what I expected: fantastic character models, great music, slow-burn story, and really wordy but interesting side content. The models are just gorgeous to look at on the big screen. Also unlocked the dorm but I have not yet played with the camera too much. Among the dolls I got Cheeta is my favorite. Just a well-presented and funny character.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game. The long wait is so worth it.

So apparently the Haoplay client supports more languanges than the Sunborn one. Which makes sense cause Haoplay covers most of Europe.
Now, both Haoplay and Sunborn obviously support English, but apparently the localisation is different :confused-face:
Would be curious to know wich one is "better".

Apparently translation on marketing materials are different but I am not sure about them in-game. :thinking-face:

I'm not gonna lie, i suspect some AI involvement on the TL front.

GFL1 has actual human TL team for the EN, KR, and JP versions. People you can actually talk to in the official discord, or who have presented themselves on Social Media.

For GFL2 to suddenly support many more languages than the base 4, (CN, EN, KR, JP), I do think AI/Machine TL and maybe a human does an overpass. But obviously not good enough. Hopefully with the Beta test here and everyone reporting the localization slip ups, they'll course correct back to humans. At least for EN i think they will.

From what I understand the Sunborn version of the game supports only those same 4 languages. Only the Haoplay version has the additional languages. I dunno what quality standard Haoplay usually has for that (and whether they use the same EN script).

The system settings are definitely MTL. Translating "medium" to "center" hmmmmm.

Just my experience, the EN script in chapter 2 later stages start to get a bit wonky and seems to be not yet touched up. There is even one instance where the JP voice was saying something different from the EN script.

Meanwhile, I am interested to know how's the KR localisation since there is KR dub in the game.

I've been using the upcoming release of this as an excuse to get into Girl's Frontline 1.
...The story portion of it anyway. I've heard quite a few times that the story is/gets really good and I've also tried to get into the games a few times already, but it just hasn't been working for me.
Soooo.... I've decided I'll just read the story!

I'm reading it with this Cutscene Interpreter following the order of this youtube playlist (these chapters do be getting quite long later on :O)
Am at the beginning of Chapter 8 right now. I wouldn't say it's been "amazing" so far, but it is a pretty breezy and gripping read and I'm curious to see where it goes.

Complete chapter 4 of the main story. That was absolute cinema.

The story segment of GFL1 was traditional VN minus voice-acting: words accompanied by a few PNGs, background music, sound effect. That's it. But they were able to make me, as well as countless fellow skk, feel things. Fast forward to GFL2, main story is fully-voiced. Characters are not only PNGs but also 3D models because there are cutscenes. Background music and sound effect are as good as ever. Chapter 4, albeit still being an opening chapter, is a bombardment of reminiscent and exciting moments, with all the above utilised in full.

My friends, I am excited towards what's in store for us down this thorny path, because, Jesus, the story is just getting started...

Edit: Also, I am stopping here and leaving the rest to final release. Time to return to the GFL1 story because there's really a lot to read.

Edit 2: No disrespect to books btw :thumbsupblob:. Just want to highlight how good the leap is.

I'm playing it but I'm cautiously optimistic. I think story-reading wise it's pretty good. Not so wordy and roundabout it feels like a slog to read like Arknights but it progresses the story at a nice pace. I love the soundtrack and the GFL victory theme has always been my jam. Missions so far seem somewhat easy and it so far but I'm not "endgame" yet. Dailies are easily completed and farmable stages have auto/skip which is a huge plus.

The only gripe I have is the gacha system which isn't as generous as the previous entries. Just means I have to be more selective when I roll for waifus or be a meta slave so I can get more currency to roll for more waifus.

Not sure how to feel about this tbh. I prefer it when there's no "future-sight" and everyone can figure the game out at the same time. With too much of a delay the game is "solved" and discussion often just revolves around which meta unit to safe for and who to skip etc and there's nothing left to theory-craft.
Although I guess this also depends on the game balancing, level of powercreep and how much power is even needed to do all the content, and I don't know how this game is doing on those fronts.

Anyway, I just finished Chapter 10. Dang. :sweaty-blob:
Also looking at the playlist, this is where the chapters/events start getting really long :cold-sweat:

I've done the preregistration on mobile, but i would much rather play the game on Steam, will that version be out the same day or only at a later point?

The way I see it, it is neither deal breaker nor good, but I can wait. It does hurt because I follow CN news closely. Meta does not really matter to me because I just pull whoever I want, but waiting for story, especially the major events, is going to be a pain.

Maybe I should stop following CN news after seeing how the one-year anniversary in Dec goes. One of my favorite GFL1 characters was teased recently and I am literally drooling over her return. :cold-sweat:

Time for Singularity:blobeyes:

Likely but there is no news so far. Make sure that you have pre-registered in the right server because Sunborn / Haoplay does not share account. Steam is Haoplay only.

Just be aware if you choose the Steam/Haoplay version you're locking yourself out of being friends with everyone here i imagine whose already sworn to get the one directly from Sunborn/MICA.

It's just the safest bet.
======

I don't really mind the year gap. I can't play the CN version, so worrying about it seems pointless? Having future sight doesn't bother me either, it allows for a certain amount of spend planning for your favorite units. I'll know when to stash some cash in advance for my favorite dolls. (y)

Clairevoyance is a such a curse though! All those units you KNOW they're out and they aren't released for you yet!

How so?

Well for example, the CN version of GFL1 has just been de-listed because of a publisher lapse. And now it's gonna take 6-months to a year to get it back up.

Obviously they'll try to avoid that happening for GFL2 now that they've had their hand bitten once, but you can never be sure can you? So that makes the self-published version more safe. Imo.

That sounds like a completely unessecary issue on the developers side tbh, why even have different publishers?
I'll consider, but i'll most likely play the Steam version anyways for convenience sake

Cacher can probably explain it better than me, since as far as I remember he actually knows Chinese.

My understanding is that games in China NEED a publisher for the government registry. Or at least an entity with a Publishing #. When GFL1 was born, it was MICA's first aside from their indie doujin. They probably didn't have the money to self-publish in China when they very first started.

For GFL2, I imagine it's an issue of manpower this time. MICA is now developing GFL1, Neural Cloud, GFL2 and probably another Reverse Collapse game. Haoplay publishing the game in Europe, Japan, and South America helps them with translations to those new languages I guess. And any other regional laws, like for example we just saw the one in Germany where EVERY game has to be age-rated.

I imagine they use a separate publisher cause they are too smol compared to someone like Hoyoverse and can't handle all the marketing/legal stuff/additional translations on their own.

In other news I just finished Singularity. This is getting really good. And long. I am invested. So many moving pieces suddenly.
Next up: Continuum Turbulence (which going by the playlist is almost twice as long as Singularity, :sweaty-blob:

Sunborn never explained why the multi-publisher approach or what region should go to which server, so like Echo said, regional laws and translations are probably the reason why they partner with Haoplay. The whole situation is honestly confusing and they should have done more explanation rather than leaving fans to speculate.

Regarding GFL1, the end-of-service is due to end of publishing contract so they need to find another partner / self-publish the game. There is also rumor that the cost of contract renewal is astronomical but we will never know the truth behind. Getting government registration takes time so the CN server will stay silent for a while but it will be back.

I think playing on Haoplay version (=Steam version) is fine, as long as you know that it is run by a third-party. There is a risk that the server may go down one day and the data may be needed to migrate to another place.

Having a content gap sucks but considering how much I dislike the gacha system I'm like that we have clairvoyance. I can't collect them all but I can get all the waifus and meta. Welrod, 416, Wa-chan and Suomi when?

Dec 3rd lets goooo!

Finished reading Continuum Turbulence and Chapter 11.
Continuum Turbulence was fantastic. Chapter 11 was largely... not much?
Wonder how far I can get until December 3rd. Next up is Isomer.
