Sorry for being a pain the ass, but like I mentioned above, instead of playing through the game, just install the free Hitman 2 starter pack, and you will be able to play the maps of Hitman (it detects you own the game) with improvements.

I have Hitman 2 and already beaten it. But when I tried to play Hitman 1 maps, they're greyed out. Do I have to do something specific?

You just have to wait a bit for the maps to download.
When you first launch Hitman 2 after you redeem Hitman 1, it will detect you own the previous game, and start downloading the original maps in the background.
It's a big download (I believe it's around 40GB), so it takes a little bit of time.
I'm almost certain you can quit the game, it should continue to download in the background.
