King's Bounty 2 |

The King's Bounty turn-based tactics series returns with King’s Bounty 2! In addition to the tactical depth fans expect from its combat, immerse yourself in the fantasy world of Antara with a whole new, non-linear narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give weight to your every decision.

Offering a fresh take on the acclaimed fantasy series, King’s Bounty 2 expands upon its tactical turn-based battles to offer players a truly immersive RPG experience that adds weight to their every decision, whether leading an army into battle against unliving horrors, or building relations with local townsfolk. Experience a rich world that blends realism and fantasy, filled with compelling stories, memorable characters and moral choices aplenty!

Taking on the mantle of one of three heroes – each with their own unique story – players embark on a non-linear, open-world adventure across a detailed and densely-packed fantasy landscape. Split into two distinct phases, players traverse the realm from a third-person perspective, picking up quests, exploring the wilderness, and getting to know the people they meet. When conflict arises, however, the perspective shifts to tactical, turn-based combat. Players must then make smart use of their units as they fight to win.

Set in the vast realms of Antara, a great danger has arisen. A mysterious blight has descended upon its furthest reaches, corrupting the land and all who live there. Refugees from the affected regions have begun arriving in the kingdom of Nostria, putting food and resources in short supply. Once living souls, blight-distorted creatures now roam the countryside leaving chaos and destruction in their wake. The land itself fights for survival, giving your decisions greater weight than ever before. How will you forge Antara’s future?

¨¨Key Features
  • Interactive and cinematic story – Told through the lens of a highly cinematic experience, King’s Bounty 2 puts choice in players’ hands rather than their mouths. Embracing classic RPG traditions, players are frequently faced with difficult moral choices that have far-reaching consequences for the fate of the realm. But instead of hinging on simple dialogue choices, it is the players’ actions that hold the true weight
  • Landscape matters – When players enter combat, the battlefield directly reflects the specific part of the world map that they’re traversing. This forces players to consider their surroundings before entering combat, to minimize potential risks or even try to give themselves the upper hand
  • No more flat arenas – Realistic, volumetric battlefields are now an integral part of combat in King’s Bounty 2. Creating maximum tactical diversity, all manner of obstacles and features can be found on the combat maps, from ravines and hills to wagons and more. Every battle now has its own unique tactical advantages and disadvantages.
  • New character development system – King’s Bounty 2 gives players three characters to choose from, each with their own unique story. As they explore the realm, their stories change as they align themselves with different ideals: Strength, Art, Order, and Anarchy. Not only do these choices affect how NPCs react to them, but they also have a tangible impact on the world
  • Unique squads – Each squad consists of wholly unique units, each with their own set of skills and visual appearance. Instead of faceless recruits, players build armies of humans, elves, trolls, and other creatures who spend the majority of their adventure fighting side-by-side, developing lasting bonds
  • Tactical depth on the battlefield – King’s Bounty 2 introduces many new tactical features to the series, such as Line of Sight, for a deeper, richer combat experience. Surprise tactical events mid-battle will also keep players on their toes
  • Unique blend of realism and fantasy – Experience a vast fantasy world that expertly blends beloved genre tropes with a gritty realism to ensure players remain grounded in this desperate, realm-wide struggle

I've somehow ended up with several of these games in my library... Worth playing as a turn-based strategy aficionado?

Yes! They're great fun, the early ones are obviously a little dated but i played hours and hours of Darkside.
I'm tempted to reinstall it and do another run this winter now it's back in my mind.

prudis Sorry, i just realised i posted King's Bounty II stuff without even seeing your thread. I should have known you'd be on the case! :)

It looks janky and I'm not sure how I feel about the realisitic art style, but I like the idea of a modern day Ascension to the Throne. Wishlisted.

It's a 1C game, the jank is to be expected and embraced lol. I'm with you on the realistic style though - it's a pretty massive departure from the previous games and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Could be good, could be awful.

I like the graphics tbh. It looks impressive to me all things considered, even. The OTS camera seems off, hopefully it's optional. I did love the original style however, I'd probably prefer it still, but this whole normal-scale deal works a lot better than I'd have expected it to. But still this is so much better of course:

I'm mainly worried the graphics also indicate an attempt at a serious epic storyline. Hopefully it's nothing too bad or obnoxiously prominent if that's the case.

I wonder if they might bother to update the library assests for the previous King's Bounty games now that they have a new one releasing. Those are one of the larger blocks of old assets remaining in my library (which isn't Atelier, oh K-T).

I've played probably 10-20 hours of the first game, none of the expansions, and i can basically gaurantee i will hit a wall where my tactics break down and it becomes a literal meat grinder until i lose patience and my kingdom because i can't defeat a certain enemy encounter.

If the gameplay is different in the expansions/this, well, they have my attention

You don't lose your kingdom in The Legend (if you mean that as first, it's a reboot of an ancient game), it's not a strategy game like Heroes of Might & Magic.

That's probably why I even liked it in the first place, it's more of a light RPG with no pressure from an overarching strategy component as in Heroes of Might & Magic. I don't play strategy games much, only very special cases like Warhammer: Dark Omen or stuff like X-COM if they even count, nothing on a grand scale.

The expandalones seemed identical so I didn't play them, I was burnt out on the main game. But I did enjoy & finish it and I'm no master strategist. Try again!

Sounds pretty good in theory but we'll see just how good all that third person up close and personal role playing and exploration stuff work out in the end...

Kind of wanna go back to The Legend but not a replay. Anyone know what the best expandalone is? They have similarly positive reception except Dark Side.

Kings Bounty: Crossworlds (expansion to Armored Princess) is considered the best in the series.

I need to restart Crossworlds. The King's Bounty that i really got into was Dark Side. I had a ton of fun completing that.

Darkness descends over the world of Nostria. Conspiracies, sabotage, and necromancy are overshadowing the country. Counties are demanding independence, bandits prowl the roads, and rumors about the overwhelming power of Blight emerge from a whisper in the dark. The old king Claudius was poisoned and cannot lead the kingdom and so his son, Prince Adrian, must now unite the struggling lands while his power and faith fall under attack. But maybe a saviour – the kingdom's last hope – is already here, to fight back and finally restore peace and order in Nostria.

King’s Bounty II is finally available to pre-order for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) across all major physical and digital retailers. Nintendo Switch version will be available at all good retailers and digital pre-orders soon. King's Bounty II will be launching on August 24th, 2021 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Katharine comes from a long line of noble Rigern counts, the rulers of the rugged mountain region of Nostria. She spent more than 50 years away from Nostria, roaming the dragon ruins and the remains of ancient Antis, looking for arcane knowledge and magic. However, when Katharine stops receiving the taxes she needs to fund her expeditions and mystical research she discovers that her nephew, Maurice, has taken over her county. Outraged by this, she heads to the Universal Assembly in order to demand the return of her power from the King...
