Since you are on 970XT, which I intend to also get, how do you find gaming on it in linux? Im mainly looking forward to ray tracing at 60fps, maybe Im expecting too much?
From my understanding, GPU performance on AMD, between Windows and Linux, is more-or-less identical. Maybe ray-tracing will have a bit of a hit compared to Windows, but it'll at least be better than the 12-20% tax you get on Nvidia cards.

I actually use CachyOS on the office desktop and my HTPC in the living room. I find it’s fine for Big Picture mode too once you’ve set it up. It’s definitely more flexible and I feel if you do even an ounce of customisation you can get more mileage out of it.

I found setting up Syncthing to be more straightforward than on my SteamOS devices, and when I tried to do it on Bazzite I found it quite miserable tbh.
Ayo actually, could you walk me through a bit of how you've set up SyncThing? I've tried setting something like it up in the past, and it just wouldn't freaking work. My only real cloud storage setup is Google Drive and that kept giving me a "browser not trusted" error.

How familiar are you with Syncthing? It’s not cloud storage per se, it’s just sync. But if you have an always on device (like a NAS) then it can act as a sort of half-way house.

You just have to hope that NAS is backed up somewhere offsite.

But I can absolutely walk you through what I did to install it on CachyOS (used Octopi basically) and then set it up as a service to launch when the system boots.

Once it’s all setup, I basically repeated on my other devices (office PC, home server, handhelds) and then pointed it to folders I wanted to sync.

On SteamOS you can install SyncThingy, go to the app settings and copy the command to paste into the Terminal. Once that’s done it works in Game Mode, which is the ideal as you want it to sync any changes immediately.

I’ve found it’s not at all heavy on my battery life, which is a win.

At the moment, as I’ve just done an OS reinstall, it’s essentially just my Steam Grid folder (so I only need to set custom artwork once, and it propagates across devices) and a “Quick Transfer” folder to move files between devices easily.

But I’m gonna start installing emulators soon, and start fresh on all my Apple devices too, so my use cases for it will expand from there.

Emulator save sync is a godsend. As is synchronising downloads from Mac to Deck.

If you’re on Nvidia, Bazzite is the best option in my view. Their tried and tested Nvidia version is gonna work the best it can until a better version releases.

I’m all AMD, so I feel like I have a lot more stretch before the elastic band snaps. And I do want the latest fixes for my 9070 XT, which CachyOS offers.
im buying a all amd pc with 9070 xt in the february. thats the plan anyways. im very excited.

Ah, I realize I misunderstood what SyncThing is. Whoops.
There's something that was released more recently that should fulfill my needs, Ludusavi. I'll look into setting that up after work, I want to get cloud saves set up on a few games that don't have them.

So about Zorin, it's ok so far but it has been unable to recognize the phone output on my controller.

I have a bunch of Fedora spins on a usb stick, kind of find it the most convenient to try various desktops without installing and uninstalling too much crap on my main system. At least until I can feel arsed to set up all the VM stuff the way I like.

Upgraded to the newest Kubuntu. The upgrade went well. Only stupid thing was that there was a button on the task bar to update, and clicking that gave an error lol. Upgrade failed due to: (empty text box). So upgraded in konsole with
do-release-upgrade -f DistUpgradeViewKDE
and everything went smooth.

My Linux use is just a plain KDE desktop that boots into Steam BPM. No real need for anything fancy.

As for mail client, it'll be the same as on every OS I use: Proton Mail.

Vivaldi has quickly become my favourite browser across every platform. I haven't encountered any snags using this at all, as opposed to other browsers that have had one issue or another with either my Mac, Linux, Windows or iOS devices.

Nebulys yeah I've gone over to Vivaldi too, really liking it thus far! Just installed it on my iphone too. I was wondering about even using the inbuilt mail thing in Vivaldi.

I've been using Vivaldi since it came out and wouldn't trade it for anything.
and I've been using Vivaldis built-in mail client similarly since it came out (I had used Operas built-in Mail client before they axed it, too).
I think it works well! Does everything I need from a mail client.

regarding screenshots of our Linux systems: mine looks like this right now – the wallpaper changes regularly, I've collected lots of nice wallpapers over the years. KDE has a wallpaper of the day system built-in that has good ones daily. Other than that I keep it minimal & clean.

Mine's just a bog standard KDE. :D

I still use Thunderbird, but I'm definitely open to other options. The one thing that I also use Thunderbird for is as an RSS client which I would need to find a replacement for.

How's the adblocking in Vivaldi nowadays? I know Mozilla was like "we will support manifest 2 so ublock origin can work at its best" and I stuck with firefox for that, so I'm curious what's that like on Vivaldi. I seem to recall they said at some point that they would support V2 as long as it was on chromium, so how's that been going you folks?

I still use uBlock Origin on Vivaldi on both Linux and MacOS – works without problems; and the built-in adblocker is good as well (it works well enough – and it works on mobile; but it doesnt let me block things directly that I pick myself, like uBlock does)

So you all should post screenshots of how you linux setups look like!:) Im trying to make mine nice but dont know whats even possible yet. Also what email client do you all use?
mine is kinda boring

I saw some folks with lot of customization but when I'm at the pc I'm using the browser or playing games so I dont feel the need to install a lot of applets and desklets

Pop!_Os 24.04 LTS with COSMIC Epoch 1 will be releasing December 11th.

Future Pop!_OS releases, starting with Pop!_OS 26.04 LTS, will now align with the Ubuntu LTS release timing (approximately two weeks after the Ubuntu release
date).

Cosmic Desktop updates will be a rolling release.

I gotta try it out when it releases.
At least on my work laptop.

Yeah I kind of want to do lots of cool customisation but as you say, when I actually sit on my computer I either game or code. One of the harder things with linux is just know what can be done.

I can't seem to upload an image here, maybe because i'm still a junior member?

You need to be a full member to be able to upload an image directly to the forums. Alternatively you can upl oad it to a service like imgbb.com and ise the provided link to embed it here.
