I feel "proud" of myself that I never caved into getting Mario All-Stars. I simply refuse to support that sort of fomo bullshit. I almost caved in many times.

I have yet to play Mario 64 and Sunshine, but if I do it someday I might as well just do it via en emulator.

So Nintendo has to choices for me: continue selling the game and I will buy it at some point or stop selling the game and I will pirate it via an emulator. Seems like Nintendo would prefer that I don't give them money.

The best way to play Mario 64 is through the source port. 60fps and widescreen, much better than the all-stars version.

Hmh what is more likely to come to gamepass, the new Watch Dogs, or UBI games in general or Like a Dragon?

Spring sale on xbox live now and thought I would spend my credits!
I'd say Like a Dragon since all the other Yakuzas are there. I have read rumors about Ubi+ coming to game pass, but then again, only rumors.

Touhou Spell Bubble is pretty fantastic. I wrote a longer post about it in the Steam thread, but I now finished the main campaign and discovered that it has an extra "Lunatic" campaign that's entirely new content!

It's also extremely hard, I don't think I'm that bad at the game and the 4th level of that campaign took me 20 tries or so.

I wanted to make a general comment about console wars, I imagine that this is the proper thread for it. As most of you probably know, I'm a PC guy through and through. Following the announcement of Horizon: Zero Dawn for PC and after I witnessed some frankly eye-opening reactions by platform loyalists about something that didn't affect them in any way and simply made a game available to more people, I took an interest in the communities of Playstation and Xbox on Era and I started following the discussion in their dedicated topics. My goal is to help both sides understand that gamers on other platforms aren't 'the enemy' and that good things happening on any platform are good for everyone in a rising-tide-lifts-all-boats sort of way.

Sadly it seems that the adversarial attitude towards other platforms is quite ingrained and it will take a lot of time and effort to maybe start changing it. In many cases (such as the recent MLB Gamepass thing) the discussion seems to be centered more around getting one over the 'enemy' than the actual benefit of the news itself. Watching it as an impartial observer is pretty fascinating, I feel like I'm watching a naval battle and each new development is a cannon salvo that must be retaliated against.

The fact that Era mods have had to put threadmarks and mod posts in Xbox and PlayStation threads (even before things kick off) because the bad faith shitposting and console war sniping got out of hand says it all.

Fanboys are gonna fanboy. I don't see it as often on Era these days as I make good use of the ignore user functionality, but every now and then someone with an avatar of a first party Sony/Nintendo/Xbox character does some brazen corporate ballwashing that makes me roll my eyes and add another to the list.

Hopefully it comes to all platforms and they've got some solo/training content rather than make it super barebones and PVP geared only to go with the esports stuff they had said. The tournament set up in previous entries was an excellent, fun way to teach the gameplay to newbies. I'm sure it all didn't break the bank in development either, it's not like they needed 100% brand new characters and amazing lore or ending cut scenes for some dramatic storyline a la Tekken or MK.

Not really surprising to see MS throw around moneyhats for 3rd party launch titles with Gamepass. That was always gonna be the longterm goal with the number of subs growing. They bring in so much money now it forces their hand if they want the service to keep growing. Outriders and MLB is pretty huge in 1 month. There will be even more down the line and I bet its nowhere as expensive as people think as the moneyhat is probably centered around how many people download the game.

And on top of that they are still selling these games on the side physically/digitally so they are giving people an ownership choice.

Once their big 1st party hitters start releasing their sub numbers will get even higher and they'll be bringing in so much money they basically can get every single big AAA 3rd party game onto GP ever year lol.

Surprising NIntendo/Sony hasn't gone down this path yet. Especially Sony. They really rather sell people a couple of big 70$ games every year instead of collecting billions via a recurring service (while still selling a lot on the side).

I happened upon my old PSP today. Some light feels as I was never too big on it, but a definite thought
SONY SUCKS !
And I don't know, some nostalgia for a time when JP devs where still firing on all cylinders and not just counting on pedo bait.
I miss JP AA games.

I wonder if Sony doing this to PS3 would finally push Konami to bring MGS4 to modern systems. That is such a iconic game to be stuck dead on that platform.

I haven't had PS3 in ages now but I'm tempted to start searching certain cheap used titles before you can't find shit anywhere anymore.

Maybe there will be a future where Sony does BC with all their systems. Maybe for PS6? lol :(

I feel the weirdest urge to buy a Series X to sub to game pass and profit. I sure hope it's not only a sheepish reaction to Sony move. I have expressed several times I would like to go back to console gaming, after all.
But all this is moot anyway, because if you think finding a PS5 in Europe is hard, man a Series X ? Does it exist ?

I tried the TimeSplitters games for the first time. 2 and Future Perfect. I thought that meant FP was the first game but it's the third, apparently. I tried them on the GameCube which didn't have the first game at all.. 2 feels very GoldenEye-esque. I like it except for the stupid N64-like floating/recentering crosshair aim mode which seems even harder than in N64 games. Stealth seems a bit harder too, it's like you need to do headshot kills for it to count when iirc in GoldenEye as long as your weapon was silenced and the enemy didn't have time to shoot at you, you could kill them in 2-3-4 shots and still stay in stealth. FP on the other hand feels like a lower tech Halo wannabe with modern controls, vehicles and set pieces galore and even less stealth potential, at least in the first few levels. It's okay.

So I have been in the Monster Hunter coma all week and what an interesting game. I'm pretty much complete on it atm, just getting into TA hell and helping out friends. If anybody is wondering anything about it lemme know, or if people want help hunting I'm always down to help. Feel like it's one of the best games in the series but also I know it's going to piss some people off.

I've been really tempted but i'm going to wait and see how the April update goes before jumping in. Sure, i'll be late to the party but eh, i've always been unfashionably late to everything so no need to stop now.

One thing though, do i still need to have fingers like tentacles in order to claw at the buttons like previous versions? There again the last ones i played were on portables like PSP/Vita/3DS so it can't be worse than those, right?

The controls are more or less identical to MHW. The only added stuff is the Wirebug mechanic which uses ZL, but on gunners that gets swtiched up to R because ZL is the default aim. Playing gunners has me playing on claw because those controls can get a bit wild(and I'm used to it), but you can change them up a little bit. They also have Gyro aim available, which people are saying really helps out with gunning but I haven't tried it since I've only messed with Bow a little bit. They should be a major upgrade from the handhelds (I just noticed you skipped MHW), but gunning is something you'd have to set up to be comfy imo.

I wouldn't blame people for waiting for 2.0/3.0 over the next couple months. I personally think the content in this game is way better than base MHW simply because monster/gear variety is back on par with the older games. That being said, if you need to see an ending or have investigations/HR grinding to feel good it's going to be a rough time.

Switch owning folks, if you're paying for Nintendo Online, you can get Pac-Man 99 for free starting today. Somehow I thought it's an older game they've ported to Switch or something. I guess I was confusing it with Tetriss 99, another unconventionally/unexpectedly BRfied retro game. Both are Switch Online only, huh.

I wonder what other games they'll do this for. Official Super Mario War 99 (I guess they already did this IP with Mario 35 and killed it?)? Mega Man? Star Soldier? Bomberman is already BR by itself, lol. I guess they could do a special 99 player version too, like there was the 10 player Saturn version (as a full game itself).

Anyone know what the best/proper way is to handle selling a Switch now and buying a new one later in regards to my digital purchases? I need to get some cash now and I plan on upgrading to the new version whenever it comes out anyway. If this was a normal company I wouldn't even worry about my digital stuff disappearing (because that would be ridiculous), but with the patented Nintendo internet sweetness I want to ensure I do it the "right" way so I don't lose all my purchases.

I'm not sure about the process of 'formatting' the console but the games are no longer attached to the hardware. As long as you remove your account from the system it should be enough.

Yeah that's why having two accounts in one Switch is a pain in the ass. The secondary Switch must be online to play the games from the primary hardware/account.

I picked up a switch the other day, I know it's probably not a good time with the rumored pro coming and such, but I wanted something to mess around with.

I picked up the animal crossing special edition (doesn't come with the game) since it's the same price as the normal machine. I don't have any tablet to compare to so I thought the quality is pretty decent and monster hunter rise look decent enough for such a new game on it. I also bought mario kart 8 deluxe, I remember playing the wii u version and liked it enough but I haven't opened this version.

As for other things, the interface is decent and sleep mode/portable is pretty convenient for pick up and play especially since I only have 1 display in my room. eShop seems pretty bad especially for my region, and I can't even find youtube on it, I can't be bothered to create more accounts yet for access to other regional stores. All in all I didn't regret this purchase that was essentially just an impulse buy when I had a day off this week.

Also saw quite several people picking up monhunt/switch at the store during the day so I guess the game is really popular here.

I picked up MonHun Rise today after pondering about it since before launch. People have been having tons of fun with it in the streams i've watched so i decided to go for it. Got the Steelbook edition coming and hopefully my Genki Shadowcast will turn up soon so i can try that out too.

Edit: also, Pacman 99 is out now.
I need to check if my Nintendo Online sub has expired yet. I've been PC gaming for the last few weeks so my Switch hasn't had a look in and my poor PS4 hasn't seen power in months but it's ok, i have a bunch of PS4 games i need to get back to so it'll get some love in a few weeks i'm sure.

I just set up another account for the US eshop, thankfully it's a pretty quick process since Nintendo doesn't ask you for much personal info other than email address on their site. Took me like 10mins. Now I can download youtube and the english nes/snes games.

I also forgot I could play bayonetta 2 now, I didn't look at the rest of the shelf when I picked up the two games.

Li Kao Dude, i think you need the cash more than you need MonHun at the moment.
MonHun is going to be around for a long while and there's gonna be a PC release sometime in the future and that will have all the content including G*Ranks and stuff. So there's no rush because tons of people will jump onto it on PC release too. The same happened with MonHun World and Iceborne.

Tough it out, play some stuff from your library. I'm not buying anything else for a while now as i have a ton of stuff to play and some pre-orders coming over the next few months. I'm going to be working on clearing out some games i've bought and not even opened the shrink-wrap on yet.

Here'cs the summary, shamelessly taken from Era.
Some info from the article summarized:

-The San Diego team wanted to develop their own games after years of being a support studio. They decided on remaking older games instead of a new game since they thought Sony would never approve of their pitch otherwise because Sony's leadership was too risk adverse. They first wanted to remake Uncharted but decided on TLOU instead since it would be cheaper since the game is more modern.
-Sony never publicly acknowledged the existence of this San Diego team and never gave them the budget required to hire more devs.
-Hulst wasn't happy with the project he thought was too expensive and gave the project to Naughty Dog instead. San Diego is now once again a support studio with little autonomy of their own and most of the team's leadership left SIE.
-Sony turned down a pitch for Days Gone 2 because of the mixed reception for the first game. Bend is working on a new Uncharted instead (under the supervision of Naughty Dog) and are working as a support studio on a multiplayer game with ND. The leadership recently was allowed to develop a new game on their own though last month.
-Bend feared they would become Naughty Dog North and the San Diego team jokingly refer to themselves as Naughty Dog South

It was really messed up how around 2016 Sony just stopped showcasing small indie and budget games at their E3 events. Instead they went all in on showing their big AAA games with stupid show props and all this other weird shit.

Then they started complaining about E3 and started skipping their PSX show eventually to skip E3 as well. Now doing some boring State of Play which is tryhard Nintendo Direct that never delivers.

Really weird seeing them change so fast in such a short time. I guess that is how new leadership can effect things so quickly. They went from having biggest E3 time presence to me not even caring about them during that time of the year. They dump a lot of important information via interviews to some magazines. They have a big communication problem at the moment.

Only great thing about them this past year is their new PC strategy. Hopefully that continues.

So I was playing TLOU 2 and my PS4 decided to randomly shut off, and it took it several minutes to come back to life. It is a very hot day today, but I have the AC on. I dunno what happened, but it made me weary from playing any further.

At first I really thought remaking TLOU this soon was dumb as hell but I've been playing Halo 2 anniversary lately on MCC and I gotta say it might not be too bad of an idea. Just like the difference between the first Halo anniversary...switching back n forth is a big enough gap visually with Halo 2 where I say the devs earned it.

10 years is a lot of time. Sony/ND should really make sure it doesn't deviate too much at all tho. Let people instantly switch between old and new as well would be cool. I haven't played TLOU2 yet but from the trailers its obviously a huge leap over the first in terms of graphics. That type of update put on top of the first (PS3) version would make for a great remake imo.
