Probably the most I've played my PS5 in the last few years. Played a lot of my top 5 through Remote Play on my Steam Deck, which is such a great fit for open world games. I've also finally replaced the old HD TV in my room to an OLED monitor so I'm looking forward to playing even more in 2026!

The latest console sales are dire.

Switch 2 wasn't the savior of video games that people were anticipating. GTA 6 won't be either. Frankly I think those poor sales are more of a warning sign of the economy as a whole.

The industry is waiting for a "savior" that will finally allow all publishers and developers to permanently jack up the prices. This is why they want GTA6 out (and hoipe it's the first 100 bucks game). This is why they wanted the Switch 2 (again, because Nintendo titles did increase in price with the gen change). None of this is working because money simply doesn't work like that. Inflation, dollar value, none of this matters to the average joe. They see they can't make ends meet with their paltry salary, they stop spending on things that aren't a real necessity
Gaming is turning into a rich white male hobby

I'm impressed NoA made AdHoc remove Flambae's hair in his naughty area.

The ultimate edition of Cyberpunk 2077 is 75% off on the US Nintendo eshop. It hasn't gotten that high of a discount on any other store including gog and the Switch 2 port is pretty new so this seems like a price mistake.

I picked it up because it's apparently a really good port and it's unlikely the physical edition will be that cheap anytime soon, if ever.

French Journalist got his psn account hacked twice (by the same person)
even with 2fa and pass key
money stolen and all details changed. even wiped his friends list

This seems like a serious security problem at Sony.
He managed to talk to the hacker and going to make an article.

Not at all surprising nor is it a new problem. Cavemen who used to bang rocks together to create fire could tell you that Sony's security is rubbish.
Poorly trained customer service reps too, so it’s quite easy for social engineers to breach their security.

I basically only buy physical games on my PS5. Just can’t trust Sony with my data or have a big digital library with them because their service sucks, their security sucks and after losing your account their support staff are more helpful to hackers than you.

Didn't know Swery65 made a PS2 era Metal Gear. Seems pretty damn impressive for a 2003 clone (after MGS2 but before MGS3, likely made just after MGS?).

I played it back in the day and it’s pretty janky, but not in a completely bad way.

It got slated at the time as reviewers didn’t “get” Swery, and this was just seen as a “bad game”, but it has a lot of his trademark silliness and charm.

I played it for a bit and it's pretty cool. I just started the first mission after the prologue. Everything is much more simplistic and rigid than MGS, from the animations & controls to the AI behaviors and everything, but at the same time it works fine as a whole and feels pretty good still, with unique stuff of its own like the central disguise feature and all sorts of other gadgets and possibilities with them (not that it's a sandbox or anything like new-Hitman, again, it's pretty rigid).

Lol, didn't expect a reply from the man https://x.com/Swery65/status/2004175953321459725

I frustratingly can’t deny that I’ve never been a big Nintendo person. I didn’t grow up with it fwiw but I wish I loved it as much as so many clearly do.

Many of their games I have personally found good but rarely great imo.
And I can assure that this isn’t some stupid platform war crap, it’s just frequently been a strange miss for me.

Anyway why do I say all this?
Because I’m playing DK Bananza right now and I’m very much bowled over by how much I “don’t get it”
I’m at level 4(?) so far and it’s so basic and I can’t help but think “is this it? Is this what so many folk were hyping and praising so hard?”

I really hope something clicks or steps up soon cos I’m both bewildered and quite disappointed

Totally understandable. I grew up with Nintendo consoles but I also don't enjoy every one of their franchises. I am mostly a Zelda and Mario RPG guy. Both 2D and 3D Mario don't do much to me so I can imagine that Bananza would be the same.

I thought it was a really good game but also kind of overhyped and not a 10/10. Have you been exploring the levels thoroughly? There are a lot of bananas hidden in every level that can require a good bit of puzzle solving and skill expression to obtain. My personal experience was that I spent far too much time exploring every area in the first few levels and I eventually got to the point where I started burning out on the game. So about half way through I had to make a conscious decision to mostly stick to the critical path just to be able to actually complete it. But the game is more fun if you give yourself enough time to play each level thoroughly.

I suppose I would say something in the middle?

I’m not beelining to the map markers and am taking time to grab any bananas I come across but I’m not trying to thoroughly clear each map so far either

Fair enough. There's no wrong way to play this game but trying to complete a checklist of all bananas would be the worst way imo. I don't even think it's possible to get them all until you get some unlocks later and revisit the levels. But I still do think most of the joy in the game is in exploring the maps and solving puzzles or pulling off platforming tricks to get as many as you can. It's also a game that's probably best played in small doses (like one floor per day) rather than playing it continuously. I hope you end up enjoying it more than you are now but there's always a possibility that a game just won't click for a person.

I thought Bananza was good fun, but I don’t think it hits the highs of something like Mario Odyssey, or even 3D World.

I have those games sitting on my shelf, and I’ll likely go back to them. But I sold Bananza after I was done with it.

yea bananza was good but got a bit repetitive, some levels that actually required some platforming was fun (ones you don't want to destroy), otherwise destroying everything gets old and undermine any level design it had.

I finished Ghost of Yotei, got the platinum, I actually liked it more than Tsushima, there're less forts and they're replaced by more climbing, which I actually kinda liked given how good the game looks, the world feels huge, the story was enjoyable and it was a chill game, game also looks insanely good.

also finished Spider-man, Miles Morales, and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, they're fun games, Miles Morales was the best one, I think mainly because it's short and they didn't try to pad it with nonsense (maybe there are bad sidequests but I didn't notice because I could B-Line the main quest), I'm playing 2 and the sidequests are kinda bad, lol.

Rift Apart I got the platinum and it was fun, especially when you unlock more weapons to swap between.

Hope this year to finish a few PS4 pending games and get a physical copy (like for Vanillaware title)
