Welcome MCers to our annual thread where we post our top 5s for the year, be either movies, TV, music or essentially anything you want! (games in the GOTY thread!)

This year was quite uneven in terms of everything! Seems like I didn't really have a strong opinion on most, be it movies, TV or Music. But there were those that rose above everything!

Check out past years!

Top 5s 2019

FILM

1. Bones and All
This is a weird movie for me, when watching it I loved it but afterwards I had this uneasy feeling, kind of like I regret the experience. Certainly first time I felt like that about a movie.

2. Top Gun: Maverick
Talk about the biggest surprise of the year! Such an exciting and well crafted ride. On paper I should hate this movie but I loved it so much!

3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
I wasn't the biggest fan of the first movie but I am a huge fan of the MCU. After my disappointment with the new Thor and how it didn't take the characters or the world seriously, Wakanda Forever does exactly that and I loved well it did it.

4. The Batman
I was so ready to love it when going into the cinema and while it was exactly what I expected, it didn't disappoint me! It might even be my favourite Batman movie but that would be a hard internal discussion to have.

5. The Woman King
There are movies that are far from perfect that still manage to completely capture you and this movie was that for me, the moment it started till the end, I was there.

Music
I seem to have harder and harder time to find albums that I love in the same way I used to. Maybe I have I changed or the music industry has! So here are simply three different song that I loved during the year.

TV
It was a pretty good year for TV!
1. Andor
Holy shit was this a surprise and so good! My socialist heart was so happy, even though it came from Disney, how the hell did this come from Disney!?

2. The Boys: Season 3
The places they go in season 3 had me so hooked and excited! Can't wait to see where they go in the next.

3. House of the Dragon
There was absolutely no way this was going to turn out good... yet it turned out to be bloody great!

Time to share!

Let me say something before I post my top stuff from 2022. My tops usually include stuff from past years due delays from services that release content later in out countries, so please, keep that in mind :cat-heart-blob:

FILM

1 - Everything Everywhere All at Once

Yeah, it was the kind of craziness I needed haha

2 - Top Gun Maverick
It was an 80's movie but today, simple and bombastic, perfect for a great time but what made it to almost top my personal charts was the sound, you need to experience this one with a great sound system HOLY SHIT!

3 - NOPE
Not my favorite from Jordan Peele but I enjoyed it A LOT and as always, there's a message inside the movie which is really important, totally go for it.

TV

1 - My Brilliant Friend

Absolutely delightful show that I enjoyed to the deepest part of my heart. Brutally honest on every episode. What a show, my god.

2 - Yellowjackets
It had all the elements I like to live rent free in my head and HOLY SMOKES it did. If you like mystery and a bit of 90's vibe, you might like this one.

3 - Severance
There's an element I sure like a lot in architecture which is brutalism. This show feels exactly like that and once you start watching it, you might understand my reference

MUSIC

My top films of 2022 in no particular order.

The Banshees of Inisherin

The Innocents (2021) - The English version of the movie didn't release until 2022.

Nope - This and The Innocents are my favourite films in terms cinematography for this year. I was totally taken aback when I first saw the night time scenes in the movie, by far some of the best I've seen in modern films. I was curious how they were shot, because I had a inkling it was done during daytime. You can read up on how it was done here: ‘Nope’: How They Shot Those Spectacular Night Scenes

All Quiet on the Western Front

And for my top dumb popcorn flick of 2022:

Bullet Train

Really enjoyed the action scenes. Shouldn't be a surprise as the film was directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Nobody, Deadpool 2). And excellent use of colours, too!

MOVIES

1. The Batman

A rich and stylish comic book film. Easily the most immersive one I've ever watched. All around the best and most memorable movie this year.

2. Everything Everywhere All At Once

This was 100x a better Matrix film than that junk Resurrections that released last year. Just pure chaos and craziness for 2 and a half hours. Fantastic film.

3. Prey

Easily the best one of these films they made since the original with Schwarzenegger. The action and setting great. My biggest surprise of the year and I loved everything even the bad daytime CGI lol.

4. Fresh

Just a disturbing and fucked up horror movie. Not what I expected it to be at all lol. Felt like I was watching an Eli Roth or Tarantino movie the entire time. Good shit.

5. Nope

A weird and funny movie. The final act was a bit weak but I still loved it. All of Peeles films have been fantastic tbh. He needs to be making much more movies.

TV SHOWS

1. Black Bird

Best of the year imo. The performances were 5 stars.

2. Barry

Continues to be the funniest and most ridiculous show on TV.

3. Severance

Loved this so much. So much potential with this I can't wait for season 2.

4. Alice in Borderland

Was an epic season 2 and probably the finale??. Was only like 1 episode/game I disliked in the whole season. Kind of surprised how good it was. Both seasons were great.

5. Peacemaker

Loved this so much. I immediately clicked on next episode when each was done. Pretty much binged all of it. The pacing and humor was excellent

HONORABLE MENTIONS

-Obi Wan Kenobi
-Tokyo Vice
-Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities
