Imbued with these new abilities, Hazel will confront and subdue dangerous creatures, untangle the webs of her own family's shared past and - if she's lucky - find her way to a place that feels like home.

Texas, 1980. Walton City is a sprawling, coastal metropolis in the grip of a scorching heatwave and crippling economic crisis. Hollywood Animal

In Hollywood Animal, you can decide to build a multi-billion-dollar monster that destroys everything in its path, with blockbusters made strictly according to formulas. But this is far from your only option. You might instead create a boutique studio, and conquer the festivals with avant-garde directors. You could build a trash factory, challenging "good taste" at every turn, filling the screens with blood and spit. This game doesn't tell you how to play or limit you in anything. Just have fun making movies while you try to keep the whole thing afloat.

We shouldn't forget the film industry is just one part of a much larger and dynamic world. Wars and social upheaval, censorship and corruption, strained relations with the authorities and criminal disputes. — Some will be buried in an avalanche of problems, while others seize new opportunities. Make your moves behind the scenes, form unexpected alliances, lie and betray. There are no magic formulas in Hollywood Animal. Only those who can adapt and negotiate survive.

Crashlands 2

After years away from the planet under a lucrative (if morally dubious) spokesperson contract for the Bureau of Shipping, you return to visit some old pals and recover from corporate burnout. But before your vacation can even begin, a mysterious blast from the planet's surface sends you crashing into a new land, far from friends and alone in an alien wilderness.

Blue Prince

Welcome to Mt. Holly, the mysterious manor with shifting rooms. In Blue Prince, you embark on a genre-defying experience, filled with a unique mix of mystery, strategy, and puzzles that weave together to create an unpredictable journey. Will your explorative steps lead you to the rumored Room 46?

Upon reaching a closed door in Mt. Holly, you decide what room appears behind it and each decision shapes your path as you navigate through the manor. Every door can reveal new and exciting chambers that contain their own unique challenges and secrets. But be careful how you draft, for each day the manor’s floor plan resets and the rooms you saw today may not be the same rooms you see tomorrow.

Your progress each day is shaped by the rooms you select to draft and the tools you find within them. Items in the game can be used in a number of creative ways to fuel your exploration deeper into the house, allowing you to adopt unique strategies to combat the challenges that each day brings. Yet, tread wisely – the house resets each dawn, erasing all but the permanent upgrades to your estate blueprint. That is, if you were clever enough to find one!

As the heir of Mt. Holly, you have been tasked to explore its shifting halls in search of Room 46. Yet as your journey takes you further into the mansion’s depths, you start to discover that there is more lurking under the surface than a missing room. Investigate a past woven with the threads of blackmail, political intrigue, and the mysterious disappearance of a local children’s book author. The deeper you venture, the more you realize that the past is closer than it appears.

Nintendo knows their audience and knows how tribal and hyper brand loyalists most of their players are and that they will eat up anything they throw at them.
They might lose a bit of market share but they'll be more than fine with milking much more from those that still buy their stuff.

Escape from Tarkov and Arena are coming to Steam eventually. Gotta get those 🥚 first.

For anyone in the US that wants a Switch 2 then it's probably best to get it at launch because the first batch will probably be the cheapest it'll be with all the dumb tariffs.
The Switch 2 is manufactured heavily in Vietnam and he's tossing 46% duties on them. Holy fuck he's actually insane.

Like how they ate up WiiU (and several other systems prior, even 3DS before it went to damage control mode with price cuts) or also how every game sells like Mario Kart 8 (which on WiiU also didn't do nearly as good as on Switch or help that system compete in the grand scheme of things) and Pokemon, they don't have dozens of other games every generation that don't reach anywhere near those highs, or even flop if that's warranted, like for example ARMS on Switch or big franchises that broke out at a whole new level like Zelda did this gen as warranted in the opposite way (which others like Metroid have yet to do on the other hand, never mind a Prime game having even less potential than that technically unless it manages to do for that sub series what BOTW did for Zelda, though there's little reason to expect that)? That's a dumb argument repeated way too much in so called gaming circles that should know better to say the least. Kind of understandable if one's stanning for another company like Sony or whatever, but more inexplicable to adopt in an otherwise more objective PC gaming side. If there's a faithful Nintendo audience of that sort that buys anything and everything without merit as implied then that would at best lead to a GameCube tier "success" so, nothing compared to the highs they'd hope to repeat (especially without a second system to keep them afloat as with GameCube they still had a very successful portable system - but still nowhere near the previous even on that front, GBA vs GB/C, or later systems that did even better as desired). I guess that faithful audience randomly hibernates every so often, skips a generation or two, only shows up for 3-5 games, then spontaneously doubles & triples. Funny how in the Wii & DS days it was the complete opposite hate copium, how it was all thanks to a new, casual, crowd that would never buy more systems & games.

Hello, I have not seen all of the Switch 2 news. I have only seen some stuff but not actually watched the direct because of spoty Internet on my phone.

But from the looks of it, Nintendo now has complete control of gaming in Japan.

By the way RIP Steam Deck in Japan. From the looks of it, in Japan the Steam Deck cost twice as much money as it does in the US. In the US the LCD Steam Deck is actually cheaper and the OLED Steam Deck is only $100 more than a Switch 2.

From the looks of it, in Japan the Switch 2 will cost less than $320USD however in order to combat foreigners buying them all up, it will only be in Japanese and the international version will cost $130USD more. I'm not sure if that information is correct but that's what I saw online.

So for about $320USD you can get a system that can play "modern games" and won't need a PS or PC per day.

Other things to note is that in Japan there does seem to be the view by some that Nintendo is now actually trying to compete with PC as well and get access to some of that audience that is currently in Japan.

Will this all succeed? Will it eventually come back to bit Nintendo in the but? Who knows. But hopefully stuff still keeps on releasing on PC though.

Also I do wonder when Steam Deck 2 will come out.

If I do ever buy a Switch 2 it will likely be a Pokemon Black and White Special Edition.

I think the console being $450 is fair. It has a 1080p 120hz screen, and can play Prime 4 at 4k60. It seems to be decently powerful as a handheld.

But the $80 software price tag is problematic. I can't justify paying 80 for a videogame. And I am not sure if parents will pay that price to entertain their kids.

Another thing. BC enhancement is done through upgrading, for $10 / 20 depending on new content. I was expecting paid upgrade so not surprised here, but it also means not every Switch 1 game will play better on Switch 2.

To me, going forward I will buy most Switch 2 games used, with the rare exceptions like Zelda or whatever Monolith is cooking (which is hard to justify, again). I don't like it, but big N will not change their stance.

Glad to not be a Nintendo fan and able to comfortably ignore them while playing other things. I just hope people actually being prepared to pay those prices don’t give others any ideas, Sadly it'll probably happen.

Luckily, the only series of theirs I care about is Metroid, which gets about one new game a decade, so my wallet is safe.

There are a few things they could make that may interest me but like Metroid it is pretty occasional and certainly not worth buying a whole console for especially with those prices. And given that its Nintendo they will never reduce by much.

$80 for games is insane.

$80 for nintendo games is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Outside of zelda I would be shocked if any of them even approached $100m in budget, so there's no way in hell you can justify an increase to $70 let alone 80. Nintendo games have some of the worst value in the entire industry even at $60. Yeah sure give me a kart racer that has maybe 5 hours of content for eighty goddamn dollars.

I still can't believe Sony got away with the stupid performance upgrade system that now Nintendo is using.

Its not enough to spend money on new and more powerful hardware. But you need to be nickel n dimed for what is basically a patch to toggle higher framerate and resolution.

Its gotta to be the most anticonsumer shit the industry has ever seen and gaming community just ate it up.

Performance update should be free, yeah. But there's new content in those Switch 2 edition games.

Check the full trailer of them. Other than the navigational thingy, the Zelda updates have added new lore and VA work; Kirby update is basically DLC with new areas and stages. I am okay to pay for those.

Yea Sony does the same thing by bundling some cookies with your paid performance patch.

Like the new Days Gone thing with some additional horde mode or wtvr. They did it for numerous other titles too.

Its still very slimey. Comparing these practices to how its handled on PC for decades makes PC seem like a religious experience.

_________

Also I noticed Bravely Default is being remastered for the Switch 2.

I'm curious why more devs don't do this for DS/3DS games. Both Square and Atlus need to for multiple titles.

Even Nintendo should be doing this for all the Pokemon 2 screen games if not outright remaking them.

------------

And reading up on Duskbloods. Its gonna be a Dark n Darker or Tarkov style game. Miyazaki will say more in a few days but all signs do point to this not having a solo PVE only type of mode like Nightreign. Tho it should be something they could easily patch in the future so not all singleplayer hope is lost. I guess. Hopefully they do and there is some timed exclusivity that runs out so it releases on more platforms. Its insane we still have to deal with this console exclusivity shit in 2025/2026. Nintendo must have bought Miyazaki a yacht otherwise don't know wtf he is thinking doing this after the sucess of Elden Ring being multiplat.

Also its hilarious how Sony spent so many of these recent years pushing for some multiplayer/GaaS initiative and they let Nintendo steal a multiplayer Bloodborne themed game from them. While Sony pooped the bed with cancelled games and outright disasters like Concord. And this whole time FromSoft was making this for Nintendo. All the upper management for Sony over the past 5 years have been such a failure. Everyone should have been fired n replaced along time ago. This is kind of like just punishment for locking down Bloodborne and still not rereleasing it to PC :p

Obviously paying 90 euros for new games is not great, but I think the pricing for their "Switch 2 editions" is actually more egregious. Sony pioneered the concept of paying for what is essentially a glorified resolution patch, but they didn't have the gall to sell such a port at higher-than-new-AAA pricing levels.

And normally, those content updates would also be free, like on PC in 99% of cases.

I think by the end of the summer all AAA games will be 80$ as the floor.

And then Rockstar will push them to 9o$ or 100$ with GTA6. But that will still be an outlier for some time.

MS, Sony and all the publishers were waiting for arrogant Nintendo to pull this joker card with a popular game like Mario Kart. And they are now justified to do the same for their next big budget game.

At the end of the day all these companies are competing with each other. No chance some of them standby and watch their competition charge/earn more profit. They won't be able to exist if they can't keep up with each other.

I wrote a lot but decide to delete everything because 1) I don't even know if I will pick up Switch 2 anytime soon, and 2) the new $80 price tag for new games is already exhausting enough.

So for the sake of our mental health playing some games seem to be the better choice.

Its really no rush to buy the Switch 2 anytime soon imo. There isn't much fomo unless you love Mario Kart.

Part of me wants to buy the Switch 2 for new Pokemon later this year and Duskblood next year.

The other part of me is saying wait for the Switch 2 lite in a few years. It will be much cheaper and have a larger library of games. And by then it will be revealed if Duskblood is perma exclusive. Plus I rarely play on TV these days so a Lite version would be perfect.

Deck 2 and Switch 2 Lite should release around same time. PS6 and new Xbox probably as well. That is going to be an expensive year :sweaty-blob:

The gaming industry can implode on itself, I would just FINALLY start with my backlog, only have like 3000 games to play, would take me rest of my life.XD

Arise Pile, and take your rightful place on the throne of my gaming. Let these price hiking pretenders languish until the next deep discount and may Day One be driven into the sea.

Donkey Kong is pretty neat but both DK and Mario Kart are not system sellers to me, unlike Botw 8 years ago.

Let's see how things go. I haven't touched some of my handhelds for a long time.
Yeah same, unless there is a release that seems amazing I think I will pause buying games, I have so many now that needs playing. At worst I might get a month of game pass or psn plus.
I am not subscribe to game pass, so I will likely pick up Clair Obscur later this month. Very excited.

They can do that and some like GTA could even get away with it, but realistically this would mainly be a short-term cash-grab by monetizing the existing core gamer audience, while basically giving up to expand the market - at best. It's probably also likely that this would make the gaming market even more feast or famine, concentrating players around popular F2P titles and a few blockbuster releases, while more AAA games will underperform hard cause not enough players will be willing to go along with the price increases and they can't sustain their budgets.
I guess not much would change for most indies, but it's not like they are having an easy time right now either.

Yeah, further raising the prices of AAA single player games will just hasten the demise of such a playerbase to GaaS titles or quitting that segment of the market.

AFAIK most normal people only buy 1-2 games a year and spend the rest of the time with their favorite live service. The once-in-a-generation event games like GTA can get away with obscene pricing, but your Death Stranding 2's won't be able to pull it off.

Not a fan of celebs in games, I'd prefer new characters as homages at best (so they can keep returning too) but I guess they'll bring in some sales for Garou.

Games used to cost a lot more, seems like everyone has forgotten or are too young to remember.
