These Winter sales are going to be the best one:
  • free trading cards on the Steam store,
  • free games on the Epic Games store.
Maybe good discounts as well, who knows? A few price mistakes would be great. :troll:
And a couple of free games on GOG as well. ;)

I'm just hoping Valve gives out, again, €5 discount vouchers for purchases made throughout the year.
Last year, I bought quite a few games with just those vouchers.

Um, is there a limit on how many cards you can sell per day? Steam started asking for verification everytime I put them on a market.

Oh I completely missed this month challenge!

I have the achievement!

added :)

I wonder how well they were doing on Battle.net, though the game wasn't free then.
not even REMOTELY close to this :p otherwise activision wouldn't have given it away for free like a month after release

I think this might actually be something that Epic does / did better, with automatic price protection.
thanks, Tim

I just got back from the supermarket... I will spare you the details, just thinking that it's revealing (and terrifying) that I'm at the point where my only idea is that I should eat less.
Cheer up. :cat-heart-blob:

And, do allow me to correct you on that: you should eat the same, or more, and cut down on other crap. ;)
Sometimes, we value things that are unimportant, and place too much importance on things that are non-essential.

I'm not one for new year's resolutions, but I will definitely cut back on gaming purchases. I have started doing that in recent months (for example, Koei Tecmo titles are out of my list; I refuse to pay their asking prices + support their ridiculous DLC policy), and after this winter sale, I'll do my best to only spend money either on DLCs for games I already own, to support the occasional indie title or two, and not much else.
I'm at a point where my gaming time is shorter and shorter, and it's just a waste of money to keep purchasing games, and not play them.

I find myself more and more wanting to play older games (many that are already on my library, unplayed, sometimes complete series), so that's what I'll do. It doesn't help that I can't afford VR hardware to follow this latest "trend" (or, to be more precise, I can't possibly, in good conscience, justify spending hundreds of dollars on accessories, just to play a few games; not when I have so many other alternatives).

Just watched Star Wars. Feels like watching Hollywood adaptation of a Star Wars fanfic.
the JJ way ... surprised people expected something else

But well the biggest complains to the new movie i see on the web is pretty much stuff i always took as "thats was SW is and always was" .. :shrugblob:
so i find the discourse hilarious and the madness on the socials absolutely stupid

Anyone making a thread about deals and recommendations for the upcoming sale?

That's the great thing about these big sales: I start planning to buy certain titles, and end up buying others, many that I was previously unaware of. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

In other news, for those interested in following early access titles that may (or not) turn out ok, Feral Blue is worth a look.

It's currently rough and lacking content, but the plan is for it to be Mount & Blade, with naval battles, and city building elements.
According to their latest update, they are adding stealth mechanics:

I was pretty into the circus entering this gen but probably only because in 05 for 360/ps3 I wasn't browsing forums or really doing much of anything on the internet. But this time I'm 7 years older and I see the same exact arguments and theories being posted and it's exhausting to me so I don't even follow the rumor threads anymore. No one learned anything from last time, as no one ever learns or remembers anything from the past in general. I literally can't take that nonsense anymore lol.
I've lived through every console launch since the NES and this is the least excited I've ever been for a new generation. I think games look good enough as they are right now (though improvements are always nice of course) and focus more on other things. Polished and satisfying gameplay, good story and characters (something that has always been important to me even back when I started playing games), great music and inspiring art direction.
Just yesterday I was playing Spiderman on a base PS4 and thinking how great it still looks, but what I really take away from the experience is how they really nailed making the player feel like Spiderman both during traversal and combat and how well written Peter and MJ are, making their relationship feel truly genuine.
Going from 2D to 3D or from the PSone to the Dreamcast, or being blown away everytime Sega introduced a new board to the arcades in the 90's, nothing can come close to those leaps now.
It's amazing how far we've come but looking at the best looking games we have right now it's the first time I don't feel like I really "need" next-gen. Which is good because as usual I'm completely broke and have a ton of games to catch up with, not to mention the onslaught of games in the first semester of next year.

Also, I just watched the video of Brie Larson hosting Jimmy Kemmel and now I can't concentrate on anything.

After Blood and Gold I don't know if I really trust these guys to deliver their M&B based vision. Still, the game they released before Feral supposedly is pretty decent and in the end B&G is not horrible, which is I didn't complete took FB from my list of possible future purchases and I like to see how it's developing every month or so.

... aaaaand DJMAX can officially fuck off into the sun

PC is still the biggest platform for Destiny 2.

I wonder if Bungie ever regret made D1 as PS exclusive.
With how labored their development process supposedly was for new content, who knows what the effect of maintaining yet another version would've been. I do hope that that old content can one day be unified under one game though. I'd love to see some of those old locations.

Allow me to recommend a few random indie titles, that will probably be quite affordable during this sale:
Talking about Freeman, it just got a major update:

UI fixes and optimizations, new, more detailed and complex battlefields, balance updates, inventory management optimizations and more

Yeah, both Freeman, and ATOM RPG have been receiving awesome support by their developers.
What others are selling as DLCs, these developers have been adding content, and requested functionalities and options, for free. (y)

Speaking of indie RPGs, I forgot to mention another personal favourite, that will surely be discounted (along with its DLC):

I've been on the verge of buying this many times. It's very combat-focused, right?

So, I rented RDR2 for the PS4 from my lib last Sat. I've gotten through the first few missions and I'm starting to get myself settled into the game world a bit. Thoughts

1- This is an astoundingly beautiful game, even on a PS4 slim.
2- It is not as clunky as I was worried it would be. There is some definite clunk. especially with the insistence that you do not need menus for containers/stores but menu management for items is good.
3- I do not believe I've ever played a game that had such a feeling of being in a real location for a specific time period. The only game that comes close is Mafia II

I'm going to renew it for Christmas week.
