The most surprising thing to me about this was Strangers of Paradise. I completely forgot about that until it showed up so prominently here.

31% on Steam Deck, but probably 80% of my single player game time.

So in total they got about 10 million sales in 3 years.

They will easily do at least another 10 million over the next 3 years with...

Forbidden West
TLOU2
Ghost of Tsushima
Ragnorak
Spider-Man 2
Demon Souls
Bloodborne :anguished-face:

+ all additional continual sales from the current lineup as discounts start getting better.

Overall its very profitable for Sony. It costs little to port and they bring in hundreds n hundreds of millions in revenue.

Also I'm sure Insomniac X-Men game will be good but fuck I wish that game could be a turn based party RPG.

Imagine Larian or Atlus making an X-Men game

I think the low cost of porting has surprised me the most.

Everything about Sony’s PC push, both from external actions and these leaks suggests they give PC gamers sloppy seconds.

A shame because there’s untapped potential on the platform.

It's clear that PC is a secondary market for Sony, but it is a perfect example of low-effort investment. Low development cost and a potential profit of 5-10x or even more, with really long legs given the ecosystem and the frequent sales.

If everything else works, why change it? It is a secondary, low-effort accessory that is quite cost-effective compared to the initial investment.

Some of the warriors treating it like some teenage rebellion sony is doing

"OK, you've made your point. Come home!"
Lots of wishful thinking that the initiative has flopped, too. Even more baffling when the numbers say otherwise - their PC ports don’t need to do mega numbers to profit, as the cost of porting is affordable.

Heck, it’s gone unsaid for now, but it kinda looks like PC sales may have brought Rift Apart into profitability, where it couldn’t on PlayStation, even if the PC port sold below expectations.

I personally think Sony should double down at this point. Treat PC as a first class citizen and see how that impacts sales of consoles and games.

Alas these games cost over $100 million to make, so I can see why they’re so risk-averse.

Yea I really don't see a reason for Sony to cancel the PC initiative. Its an easy way to make a bunch of extra $$$ every year to please investors with earning calls. The 2-3 year delay for games pretty much makes it a nonissue for the console wars bs. The games have long released and hype is over for them. The only real way for Sony to continue making $$$ of this software is to re-release it on PC.

They are beating down Xbox in sales and have basically won this gen very comfortably. There is really no reason for them to change strategy. It would be great if they can release them faster on PC but at this point I think they are too resource depleted, busy and incompetent to pull it off. Seeing how even Naughty Dog struggled to do this TLOU online game I don't think Sony is capable to fully support PC like that. They need to hire/acquire more people and teams.

It’s not quite that simple even though I agree in principle. They need to plan it carefully, which is possibly what their recent advertised PC-specific job roles were for.

But I do think as a mid-to-long term goal, that Sony should be hiring more support teams to deal with porting and bringing legacy games into the modern era so they can more easily run on PC, PS5 (and beyond) and cloud streaming services.

But it’ll take time for now, because short of studios doing their own ports, right now Sony only has Nixxes internally and a few external partners available for doing the work.

A bit OT, but been using my new headphones for a bit now and wow Im so in love. They are probably the most comfortable headphones I have ever had. They are also surprisingly easy to drive, I was so sure that I would need headphone amplifiers for them when using them on anything other than my DAC, but I can easily use them as they are on my xbox controller. Sure I might be missing lots of sound quality... but that bring me to the sound, its amazing ! But I do think my ears are enough useless to not really hear the big difference using them, with DAC, headphone amp, xbox controller, laptop, it sounds amazing on everything.

I got the Hifiman Ananda Stealth version.

I mean it's still more than an order of magnitude larger than our ports, so I wouldn't say it's surprisingly low. (Of course, porting an AAA game is more work)
That’s fair enough - you’d have a better understanding of it than anyone else on this forum.

I guess I just had different (bigger) expectations of what it’d cost, for no real reason than the fact that the game cost $80 million to make.

My boss scolded me today for having gone on holiday, using the days that I am contractually entitled to, so today was a good day.

On another note, does anyone here recommend Cyberpunk 2077? I held off at launch because the poor state of the game but now with the expansion out I'm second guessing myself.

What surprised me most about the leak regarding Ratchet are the numbers for expected revenue: They expected 800K sold, and 20mil in profits. So let's look at that, at full price 60$, if you sell 800K units, you make (before taxes), 48 million. So, they weren't expected everything to be sold in full price then. In fact, if you average it out, it's 25$. But notably, it released for 60. So I guess the 800K is life-time expected sales, and they planned to lower the price via sales down the line.

Haven't played it yet but since the release of the Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion everyone has been singing its praises. And I can attest that the game runs pretty well now.

Looked at Witch on the Holy Night on ProtonDB.
Expected.
This makes me even more mad that I dropped my Surface Go 2 and broke the display. I did not use that device much, but having a Windows Tablet for those edge cases of Japanese VN's not playing nice on my Deck was nice to have.

Sadly there's no Go 4 or any alternative for that price point with LTE...

On the Sony leaks, ROI seems pretty good on most of the PC stuff. It's hard to say if a bigger investment in ensuring that the games ship in good condition would increase the return in a significant way.

How much did the PC ports cost on average? Haven't seen the full leaks

Played it 2.0 this year. It was good, not perfect but good. Got some great emotions along the way regarding V's story and music so I would give it a shot. DLC story is also very good, don't miss it.

I've been at this forum for 3 years and I'm kinda embarrassed to ask this. But what image hosting do you guys use to post images here? I want to share my Steam review as well lol
I just use imgur because I'm too lazy to seek out other alternatives.

Occasionally discord, but it sounds like that's coming to an end soonish.

I had used abload.de but that is down.

Now I either use Discord or Steam
Dunno how long that feature was available, but when you copy a local image into steam chat, it asks if you want to upload it. (I just use snipping tool and then click copy)

I used to use upload.system and that also shut down a month or so ago.

What you need to keep in mind is that a huge part of that 80 million goes into paying artists, designers, etc.
Just look at the ratio between programmers and everything else in the credits for an AAA game.

A port, on the other hand, basically "just" needs programmers and QA (and maybe some rather trivial UI art/design adaptation).

Ooh, I haven't even thought of Steam chat as an option. Nice.

I'm having a hard time telling from the screenshots alone whether this is a full 3D remake like the recent Myst or more of a remaster of the original with static backgrounds. It kinda feels like the latter.

IIRC, this was originally a fan-made realRiven kinda deal called Starry Expanse that Cyan took over but for some reason I was under the impression that it had evolved into a full remake on par with the Myst one.

Is Astlibra as good as Dominic Tarason makes it out to be ?
(tired, not sure of the formulation, 'makes it out to be' ?)

So, I was going to post my steam stats (well I actually did) and then thought better of it.

Because my steam account was created a long time ago it has my actual name in the account and I can't see a way to change it so it shows my user name on it. Plus there is no way for me to change my account name at all. So it makes it awkward to post.

Anyway, minor tweak and sorted.

My time in FFXIV this year works out at about 686 hours.

lol I didn't expect to wake up to moral panic about the insomniac leaks and a bunch of media outlets acting holier than thou about not reporting on it considering their stances on past hacks/leaks like the GTA one last year (or even the trailer leak recently) and Capcom ransomware attack...but here we are I guess.

Sony first party really does hit differently I guess :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Just got an email for 2 months of Choice for 9$ each. But as I went to purchase it I saw I have a coupon for 3 months for 7$ each, except the more expensive 2 month discount seems to take precedence? Any ideas how I could use the 3 month coupon instead?

Can't you just click the 'edit profile' button and change stuff there? Account/login name can't be changed (easily at least), but that's not visible to anyone but you and you should have no problem changing these 2 (or 3 if you want to change your custom url too) visible ones.
