This is the third desktop setup I've killed in a span of two months. What did I do??????

It started boot looping yesterday night, and I thought it was because I left my game on for far too long which caused something to overheat. But unfortunately it remained cursed this morning. So we tried a clean install of Windows 11, and that was another exercise in frustration. It just constantly restarted halfway through the first installation process. Bad BIOS settings? Hardware problems? Broken installer? Who the heck knows!

I gave up and installed Pop!_OS. Seems to be working fine so far. I'm going to plonk Steam onto it and see if the game can run. This wasn't how I expected to get into Linux but okay whatever.

kinda surprised he's only at 10% for tariffs from China . Though I guess they are anticipating a reaction there and want some room to go up. Would not be suprised to see 50% before the end of the year.

Nice thread thanks lashman

I bought The Planet Crafter on a whim last weekend and it has really been consuming my free time this week.
What a wonderful game! I think what I appreciate the most is that there is no external threats chasing you. It's so much more chill compared to Subnautice for example.

It really makes me curious if there are any other similar hidden gems totally without combat like this one.

Yeah its a great game! I loved the progression of developing the planet. Agree that the chill exploring is a welcome change from Subnauticas scary runs.

Paging Aaron D.

Thanks lashman for the thread.

I've already got KCD2 and MH Wilds lined up for this month. Will probably get Pirate Yakuza as well.

It's pretty nice how Nvidia timed the transformer DLAA model release to coincide with FF7 Rebirth. With the huge amount of foliage in the game the difference between it and the old one is pretty massive (and that old one was already much better than the standard TAA).
I really don't play AAA games often so if the timing didn't work out like this I'd have had to wait a while to really use it :p

Also, I'm late to the new thread -- thanks for that!

I still don't understand what Bohemian means
According to Google:
" person who is interested in artistic and unusual things, for example art, music, or literature, and lives in an informal way that ignores the usually accepted ways of behaving"
So hipsters, basically. From what I understand, it's named after the people from modern day Czech Republic, parts of which were historically known as Bohemia ("Böhmen" in German) who are apparently all like that.

Thanks for the lovely thread lashman 🥰

I have been busy upgrading my PC this weekend. 9800X3D cpu, scythe mugen 6 cooler, 32gb ram and an MSI B650 mainboard. Took me 3 hours to replace the old parts with the new ones, while carefully reading all the manuals and trying not to break anything.

It took me a while to discover that the mainboard needs special cables for cpu power, with only a small difference in shape of the pin holes compared to other power cables. Good thing I saved all cables that came with the power supply. My old mainboard only needed 1 power cable for the CPU, but the B650 needs.

I used Rufus to create a bootable usb stick for windows 11 installation. Rufus also allows using a local account and disables telemetry, so this tool is very recommend.

Everything works great, playing Grim Dawn at 240fps looks incredible!

One annoying issue: AM5 doesn't support M2 SSD's using sata. Of course my backup SSD is M2 + sata, so I hope the m2 to USB adapter I ordered works.

I'll try and be more active here outside VR, just gave up on another forum cos it's all reactionary bs now, nobody really games any more in such places I guess. Was really only still there doing my bit to help VR that I felt strongly for, especially smaller games the media don't pay attention to anyway. No promises :shrugblob:

A third of the first game.

You see, Sony's strategy works!
2/3 of the Spiderman 1 audience bought a PS5 to play Spiderman 2 after getting fixed on Steam, duh!

Excepting Returnal which is a ton of fun and was not well liked for whatever reason, that list is approximately the order I would rank the games in terms of how good they are, so it kinda makes sense to me. I'd move a few up or down a couple places but no particular big jumps.

So this graph makes sense to me. I'm also a Last of Us hater, and would probably move the Uncharted games up a bunch. But Indiana Jones exists now and it eat the lunch of both of those games forever.

One thing about Cyberpunk that drives me crazy.

That is, how many assets are NPC Exclusive.

Building up a modlist of cosmetic stuff for my next playthrough, and so many things I've downloaded have mentioned in their description that "Download size is small because the mesh already exists in the vanilla game/Phantom Liberty but the item is only given to NPCs".

Also I really hope "Cyberpunk 2" has Exotics and more "out there" customization options; Like, say, Heterochromia or Horns (Either as "cyberware" or "biomod".)

Hey ! Please excuse my intermittent absences, but I'm old and I can't do Message Boards and Discord. Something got ta give.
Well, that and flu. January was painful.

Tempted to retry Darkest Dungeon for the third time because apparently I hate myself.

Eh, I thought Darkest Dungeon was the ideal Deck game, why didn’t I play on it before ?
Then I played it on Deck.

Has the person responsible for the controller layout been caught ?

Great to see New Release-bot back online.

Yeah Planet Crafter is one of my fave open-world crafters. It ranked #3 for me last year. It’s got great ideas and has this crunchy indie vibe that just screams heart & passion.

I love the “active-idler” element where you’ve got several timers tracking terraforming progress such as planetary pressure, O2 saturation, etc. Milestones lead to tech upgrades that increase efficiency.

It gives a great sense of goals & direction as you pick & prioritize upgrade paths. The pacing is excellent.

Watching the landscape slowly transform from barren oranges & reds to rich blues & greens is very satisfying. The presentation can be low-budget creaky around the edges, but the art direction is successful and visually striking.

Overall there”s just this general vibe I get of creating something which is always refreshing in a medium seemingly obsessed with conflict & violence. All delivered in a smart, fresh package at a killer asking price.

Damn I love when humble productions offer up exciting new experiences. It’s such a unique & vital lane in the industry.

I know people always are hating on Ubisoft for many legitimate reasons, but playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint in 2024 was lowkey real fun. I went through it solo with the AI teammates (not there at launch) and did the two main DLC storylines + all achievements. I kept gear score on since a couple achievements required it, but you can turn it off entirely though now if you hate the Destiny gear score system (I do, but I like achievements more lol). Gonna go through GR Wildlands at some point this year with my brother and I'm really looking forward to it.

Yeah the controller mode isn't great but the game does play very well on mouse and keyboard mode with the trackpads. I played tens of hours on my Steam Controller.

Is it not the same as the console version? I played it most on iPad so don't remember much of the other platforms. DD2 is fine on Deck iirc.

Jesus Christ be praised.
The metacritic for the first game was 76. This looks like some massive glow up. Wilds is 100% going to be the best performing game with the highest CCU for the year, but KCD2 has serious potential to double or triple the original CCU peak (96069)

I don't know about the other versions, but I suppose it's the same. And I realize it must have been hard too adapt to controller play, but the thing is, there is ZERO tutorial for the layout and it's clearly not instantly understandable, at least to me.
This feels like a solid layout once you have shoved this shit into your muscle memory for a good hour, at least.

I admit I dropped it at 30 minute when the headache showed up.

But will it sell ? This development broke my mind. Your are Daniel Vavra and you antagonize the more progressive minded players around the world. Then you keep pushing it with stupid taunts.
What's your next move ? Make a sequel with a gay romance and be hated by the extreme rights degen.

I mean, are you drunk ? Do you just get off on people hating your guts ?

I'm supremely not defending the maga side here, this just doesn't compute.

I honestly feel this forum reads like one of very few places where people talk about games like they actually play them.

This game will be the final test to prove if the majority of gamers actually cares about politics or not (specifically because it's a game that somehow "upset" both the "right" and the "left"). If this game sells well it means the average paying customer does not care about things like "how many black people it has" or "how many gays it has", or if it has "good looking and poorly dressed women", nor they care about if the director is right leaning or left leaning
If the game sells it's because of the game itself, it's because of what the game is and the user base it's targeting, and no one could "influence" it in any way. Everything else isn't important, no matter what people post or say on the internet

I agree with the message but I don't think KCII was surrounded by controversy so much, it was easy for me to (perhaps willingly) miss even more than the first game. Definitely not missing how every single discussion about Assassin's Creed Shadows is almost never about the game but whatever people pretend to get offended by. I think it can make the game marketing much tougher even if it's not the make or break it when all's said and done. It can also compound issues. It's certainly a tired franchise with its own issues on top. The company itself being an issue as even something that should be successful like Star Wars somehow didn't get much traction despite being an OK game by all accounts (not that it failed because some folks hated a woman's face, lol). But it's not like people don't buy other tired franchises like COD. It's a toss up. Of course it's most likely not the reason something like Concord or Veilguard flopped, just as it wasn't the real reason Anthem flopped previously before everyone tried to make every single game success a win for their side and every flop a loss for the evil enemy. Seems that now pretty much every game is preemptively called woke so that if it fails they can laugh at it and if it does well just say how it's not too woke like others so they looked past it, whatever. Those folks frothed even at Stellar Blade for "censoring" a couple costumes at one point when it's their flagship vs woke flops:shrugblob:
