Disappointing to who?

People who want AAA first party Sony games?

Fanboys?

A showcase of games can have something exciting, even if the insiders say it won’t be. They have an audience of thirsty fans, desperate for console war level news and will cater to that sort.
Tbf, the past few sony shows have been meh too

:ripblob:
This is troubling. Really don't want to lose an engine maker. CryEngine has resulted in some extremely good ports.

I interpret it as "no Bloodborne" and "no new 1st party game".

Today we skip over Far Cry Primal and go straight to New Dawn. Because Yves works in mysterious ways, I guess?

Also, if I try to open the news post about the achievement updates, Steam throws up an error and refuses to display anything else until I restart it. :upside-down-face:

Well shit...

hopefully "disappointing" just means that it'll focus more on indie and AA titles, which tend to interest me more than AAA releases anyway. Wouldn't be the first time

I, Robot? Man, that's a pretty deep cut; I'm by no means a big retro arcade gamer these days, but I don't think it's generally regarded as one of Atari's better games from that era, though it's historically important if nothing else (it was the first commercially released game to be rendered entirely in real-time polygonal 3D)

Jeff Minter, though!

It could be for most people. I mean since Xbox gave up on competing with Playstation, Sony doesn't even have to try to deliver good shows anymore, they're the de facto console manufacturer.

I'm not expecting a good show (or good pacing) but as long I get 2 or 3 new Steam wishlists then I have no reason to be disappointed
We're at the point most non-indie games are announced exclusively during these type of livestreams, so I'm curious to get a first taste of 2025

I like what Xbox has been doing the last couple years with the early year dev directs.

The way they map out the three games they will do reveals for in advance + a surprise/unknown game is the perfect style imo.

the fact that they've stealth dropped games this way is really cool too.

I think that has been the best 40 minute blueprint to do these presentations.

Digimon Story, Sonic Racing and Shinobi for me, so I'm not disappointed
As far as the rest, I'll just post this

Saros looks interesting.

I still need to pick up and play Returnal.

That was some State of Play. A few cool things here n there but mostly just a catch up + recap type of thing.

No Death Stranding 2 or Yotei means maybe they pushed to 2026? Or maybe Sony just dedicates smaller SoPs for them later in the year.

Man, how is anyone supposed to find time to play all these games? So much cool stuff.

Days Gone is just a PS5 port. Calling it a remaster just makes it seem fancier than it actually is. This had minimal effort put into it.

Man, a lot of these games look like must plays to me. Shinobi, Onimusha, MGS3, Hell is Us...
Also interested in Tides of Annihilation, Directive 8020, Lost Soul Aside, Minds Eye, Saros...

Digimon is cool. I will play it.

Minds eye gives me huge 7th gen vibe. Unpopular opinion the industry needs more of these janky third-person shooters.

I will play Stellar Blade for the music and vibe. Character and (especially) outfit design is really not my thing.

Man, the gaming community is so spoiled and entitled it's embarrassing. Every year there's a deluge of amazing games but it's just taken for granted. As someone who started playing on the C64, seeing how far this industry has come blows my mind, but this hobby has become more about bitching about games than actually playing them.
