Another voice to the choir that lack of Sony games on PC isn't going to get me to buy a PS6, it just guarantees I won't be playing those games.

Most of Sony's first-party stable is just... Fundamentally uncompelling and sauceless. They're games I might buy in a Steam Sale, but not games I'd buy an entire console for.

PC inside PC game

Not to rain on the parade, but I believe all of these retro PCs are reused assets from the RE2 and RE3 Remakes. I'm replaying RE2 right now and the "ThankCenter" is in the STARS Office, as part of the puzzle to get the Desert Eagle.

EDIT:

Actually, taking another look at the picture, THAT IS THE STARS OFFICE, so it is literally the exact same PC.

I think the reason for why there is so much talking about Sony's pc port is because there really isn't that much happening in the past week in the industry (even Bluepoint's demise is old news at this point), and honestly talking about Marathon's CCUs feels like reheating an old half-eaten dinner at this point
Give it 2 weeks and there will be something more interesting to talk about when Crimson Desert releases. That game has the potential top be the first truly massive hit of 2026, and it's going to be the talk of the month (if it happens)
And of course we will see the usual "it's only popular in asian countries", "these numbers don't count because they are from China/Korea", you see, the old Wukong show

I think i was interested in Sony ports, i bought Horizon, Spiderman, God of War.
I just realised once i started playing them that I'm not that into those kind of games anymore. Dropped all 3 after an hour or two.
I did enjoy Sackboy and Everybodys Golf, probably played those 2 the most.

I care about the Horizon series. If the third one doesn't release on PC but does on PS5, I'll probably get it. Otherwise, I don't really care about their wares.

And part of the reason they released their games on PC was to try and justify those games existing. I think the people hoping they don't come to PC had better be careful what they wish for, because Sony could just as easily stop making most of those AAAA cinematic games, given their only competition is Nintendo.

I wouldn't be surprised if they've seen data showing that "the kids" (aka potential PS6 console buyers) look at PlayStation and Xbox like they're old people systems. It's pretty clear those audiences only play on PC, mobile and Nintendo. Basically, if you're not a Millennial or Gen X'er, you're not playing on console. So I expect what Sony does will be to try and appeal to that audience (so live service and "kid" games), given the core 30+ gaming crowd are well catered for with third party games.

I have so much to play on PC, that even when having a PS5 available for Yotei, Saros and other PS exclusives, I still haven't bought Yotei and have no idea when I will get Saros.

Yotei is way down on my list of games to buy.

Currently Im heads deep into Mewgenics, Monster Train 2, Satisfactory, Arc Raiders and Avowed.

And Im writing as someone who actually quite enjoyed Yotei and adored Returnal.

Sounds like an unfortunate reflection of the situation around Japanese localizations.

These days, basically every Japanese game gets localized.

But it's not because every Japanese game gets localized.

It's because what gets determined to "not be worth localizing" just simply doesn't get made. Either never greenlit in the first place, or quietly canceled very early in development.

We're in the world where Demon's Souls and Xenoblade simply wouldn't exist because Sony/Nintendo (respectively) would just kill it once they decided they didn't want to localize it. And everyone's darling, Yakuza, would've been a one-game-wonder.

Uh, have you been reading this thread?

Before I say what I want to say, here's a post of mine from September of last year, way before there was any talk about Sony changing its PC strategy. I am posting it so you are aware of my opinion on Sony's games without any suspicion of bias because of the company's recent shift.

The discussion about Sony's games is happening because it echoes similar discussions we have had about console exclusives from third parties. In my opinion, Sony's protectionist strategy is severely outdated and it won't have the results the company expects. The only thing it will achieve is make these games even harder to break even on. We will keep talking about Sony and any other company that thinks and acts with a mentality that is stuck in the past because gaming is facing many challenges and it doesn't have the luxury of platform wars anymore.

You hit the nail when you highlight the fact that this change of heart will penalise their benefits without a doubt. Even if the sales were lower than expected, it was another source of revenue which depending on the game (imagine something like Yotei or Bloodborne) can easily become a hit. However, they have shown their inability to follow a definite strategy for so long...

This is frustrating not because we won't have those games on Steam, but because they could have done so much and here we are with a progressive lack of effort on their side. Pricier games with worse ports.

It's obviously a stupid decisions, but it's funny to see people write so much about it while always making sure to let everyone know they dislike those games.

I'm a big fan of some of their games so I lament this decision, but there's nothing I can do about it and there are more games I'm interested in than I'll ever be able to play, so whatever.
Writing essays about this and topping them off with "all their games suck anyway so I don't care" is pretty weird tbh.

I gotta say though, seeing the low sales of Spider-Man 2 when it was Sony's quickest port is kinda surprising. Sure, it was a bad port, but those results must have surprised them. Combined with the possibility of these games eventually being playable on the next X-box, they must've figured it wasn't worth it for them.

Makes me wonder what exactly Nixxes is going to be used for going forward, since their known as the top-tier port house.

...Fuck Sony, we don't need no stinkin Sony ports.

I know I've said this before but I can't get over the fact that there's a handheld where I can launch any game from a ton of retro platforms with a single click through steam, like they were native apps.
I've been revisiting so many of my favorite games from the 16 and 32 bit eras and also DS and 3DS, seemlesly mixed with my native games in my library.
What a time to be alive.

Also, just reached a certain location in Requiem and it got me emotional, ngl. After all the awesomeness the game proceeds to hit me in the feels with nostalgia for good measure. Fucking Capcom man, 6 incredible entries in this franchise in just 9 years. What a comeback for this franchise.
I can't wait for the Code Veronica remake, it has so much potential and remake Claire desperately needs another game, she's awesome (same goes for Jill).

I've been reminiscing about getting the first RE when it launched on the Saturn, what a ride it has been since then. 30 fucking years. God I'm so fucking old.

It's obviously a stupid decisions, but it's funny to see people write so much about it while always making sure to let everyone know they dislike those games.

That's because anyone criticizing this decision is met with a response of "you're just mad you won't get to play them". If the internet could talk about such things in a mature way, there wouldn't be a need to be defensive preemptively.

For me, I think it is an age thing. I want old Folk Horror films like The Wickerman (the original and not the god awful remake). I want Terry Pratchet books with Josh Kirby covers. I want painted movie posters, painted book covers, painted game covers that aren’t ruined by thirty different quotes. I want to go back to a point when I didn’t know that FANDOMS exist. I want to go back to a time where morons, fuckwits, bigots, couldn’t spread their hatred. I want to go back to a time when the internet was mainly porn and animal videos.

But I just kind of wish I could take a step back to older games, the SNES/Megadrive days. I know games are better now but I just want to discover Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy 6/Secret of Mana for the first time. Getting Super Play magazine because of the Wil Overton artwork and finding a world of Alicia Dragoon, Squaresoft and Enix games.

Or the PC days of playing far too much of Dune 2, C&C, Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale. Back when Ubisoft and Electronic Arts were actually liked. I miss when games could still surprise me (it still does happen, but not as often as it used to).

I don’t know what brought this on, maybe it is an age thing. Maybe I am just trying to hide from the world as best I can. Maybe I am just feeling a bit lonely. Maybe it’s because I have had about 4 hours sleep over the last 2 nights.

Oh and in reply to Dragon1893 question, I am 53, 54 in just over a months time.

My two cents is this is forumites and those really paying attention to these "exclusives" or giving them more weight than they deserve - so often those in the same sphere of circular discussions eg gaming youtubers, journos, those keen on some measuring contest between platforms. It almost seems like people take offence when the games are not held up as "game of the decade" in those circles.

I'll no doubt see some that interest me, so its a shame they may not be on PC, but this is the same as any game I don't have the hardware / time to play.
I think I fall very much into how the PC game space currently is - there is so much more variety and the general trends and excitement for some new games especially the past month and upcoming often fit me quite well. Quite different to the console space, which I imagine is why I've not paid so much attention that way. I'm also into quite a lot of niches that are quite PC oriented.

But I just kind of wish I could take a step back to older games, the SNES/Megadrive days. I know games are better now but I just want to discover Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy 6/Secret of Mana for the first time. Brought tear to my eye, it's so nostalgicly beautiful.

I want to return to the state of bliss and wonder of old days, but I know I never can because of Internet overexposure. Forums, social media, on top of searching for job, stress slowly breaks your willpower. Learning about the world we live in, because if we don't we can't survive.

But then I play something like Viva Pinata, or Return To Castle Wolfenstein, and suddenly I feel like I'm a kid again

Oddly refreshing to see older folks in a gaming circle.

Younger folks, while enthusiastic, can get easily swayed by ragebait or similar posts. Not a problem with older guys, they've seen everything, they just laugh it off and have a good time.
That's why MC is comparatively chill compared to other places.

Falcom announces Dragon Slayer Project for console

Falcom has announced Dragon Slayer Project, its tentatively titled 45th anniversary project for console. A genre, specific platforms, and a release date were not announced.

Pretty much the grandparent series of Trails.
The first "The Legend of Heroes" was a Dragon Slayer game, and Trails in the Sky was originally The Legend of Heroes 6.

I ended up pre-ordering Crimson Desert, but honestly, it was mostly for the BDO rewards.
I’m a Black Desert player and I really wanted that Ashen Crow gear and the Dream Arduanatt for my account.

The last time I dropped full price on a Steam game was for Cyberpunk 2077, so I’m just crossing my fingers that Crimson Desert isn’t a buggy mess at launch like that was. 🙏

I miss the days of cross game promotions. Blizzard used to be great for it, but now it just seems so rare. Last game I remember doing it was Stellar Blade had a skin for NIKKE.

If I remember correctly we should be a few here that were born 79

Some of us may have been born in the '60s!

Couple of creators I follow have been covering Saelig in recent weeks and one described it as middle-ages Kenshi meets The Guild while the other said it plays like a dynastic spreadsheet time-management sim. All of those words are pure catnip to my sensibilities.

I've had Saelig Wishlisted forever but it's funny how recent coverage can motivate. Played the Demo's Tutorial and that was more than enough to sell.

There's a lot of grognard crunch going on here along with impressive vocational diversity. You really can play any role you like, from beggar to land baron.

I love solo projects so much, where you can feel the passion & authorial intent.

Big thumbs up so far.

This forum is like a digital retirement home and now I feel young being 37 years old
Honestly that would be pretty cool, if we manage to live long enough to be in a retirement home, I do hope to still be talking with you all and playing games online together! If one doesnt finally start with ones backlog during retirement, what was it all for otherwise!?
