lmao, they updated most of their recent games on steam with this fucking bullshit a few days ago

now you have to go through this thing before you can play the game ... yes, that's right - unlike the rockstar, ea, or ubi launchers - this one doesn't start the game automatically after clicking "play" on steam

:toucan:
Well... looks like it is a good thing I finished this in February I guess...

I really don't get why people think Valve is aiming to compete with Nintendo with the SteamPal when it's pretty clear that they are aiming to open the Handheld PC market in the west like they did with VR, to push this format and this scene.

I just cant.

People will pin the devices against one another no matter what. Especially if SteamPal is affordable.

A handheld war is coming. Fanboys will make it so.

[UWSL]Haha, I feel the same. It's just refreshing to hear sensible people talk about tech and games, especially [/UWSL][UWSL]Witchard [/UWSL][UWSL]Richard. He is without doubt the most level-headed person at DF due to his extensive experience in the field. And Audi poking fun at Richard is gold. :p[/UWSL]
Yeah, Audi messing with Rich is just pure gold. Crazy Frog!

to be honest, I want to believe they are just memeing.

Which is, in my opinion, unfortunate because it is an amazing moment for handhelds that have different paths and different objectives :crying-face:

Funny thing is with RetroArc you'll probably be able to play more Nintendo published games on the Steampal than you can on the Switch.

Remember some time last year (or two years ago) Gabe was praising the Switch and saying how Valve are working on some proprietary thing themselves. I think most eventually took it that he was talking about Alyx + Index...but he was most likely talking about a Steam handheld. So I think Switch is definitely a big factor in Valve attempting something like this. I think Valve is in this to compete and they believe they can make a great handheld.

The only thing I'm hoping is that this handheld won't be locked down. I'd love for users to have the ability to access the Linux distro running it if they so desire. That'd be mightily courageous of Valve and would completely torpedo the notion that consoles have to be walled gardens.

I know the argument is going to be that then people can hack and do all the terrible and naughty things bad people do to handheld devices and consoles if you give them free rein... But Steam is a platform designed for the PC. This is just business as usual for it. We've handled this problem for decades, and I think it would do a lot to put into question whether the problem is Sony/MS's notion of security, or their profit margin.

I don't think it was about the Switch specifically but more that it had to do with Miyakoto and how he could dictate what the new hardware should have so that he could give people new experiences only possible with that hardware and stuff.

Now that month with VR passed i can share something that i am proud of .This month i decided to lose some weight (i wasn't fat fat but i needed to lose some weight). So i decided to start going to and from work by foot (20-25min walks in one direction, 300-400 kcal per day), i started doing VR Fitness (1-.1.5h per day, 400-500kcal per session) and i just lowered amount of food and drink i was taking and removed dinner. And after the month i lost 4.5kg :D
I just imagine gaben and like I'm all right. ez

Woohoo! After spending a few hours getting back into No Man's Sky i have my Normandy from the Beachhead Expedition with 13 hours to spare.
Nice.
I haven't played for a long while but playing Mass Effect and the announcement that you could add Normandy to your fleet was enough to get me back in on a new save this weekend and holy crap that game has changed! Both from launch and from when i last played! I'm back on Mass Effect tomorrow but i'll have to load up my old save to see if it still works in the new update. I'm doubtful as it's at least 18 months old but also i don't have much aside from my fleet and my ship so there's not much to break either. It'll be fun to find out.

That 2K launcher will make me add at least 20% on the discount I'm waiting for to get the Mafia 1 remaster. And since the price is already terrible over here... it's going to be a loooooong wait.

Finished Maneater on Gamepass. It's... alright. In the end they don't do a lot with the concept so even though it's not that long (took me 10hs to 100% it) it does overstay it's welcome. Controls are really bad though (using a xbox controller), specially the camera.

I played XCOM 2 WOTC as recently as January, and XCOM: CS then as well, and back then they had a sort of "XCOM launcher", where you chose the version of XCOM 2 to launch, and Chimer Squad was visible as well. Has this now been replaces by the new 2K launcher? Was it a precursor to the 2K launcher?

I think I have hit the point where I have more launchers installed on my PC than I do games. Think there are four games on my PC that have insisted they have a laucher (cyberpunk, FFXIV, Stellaris and Total Warhammer (I think)).

Doesn't help when you have a few hobbyist programs that insist on installing launchers as well. Plus office has it's own launcher. as well.

Over the weekend I and a large group of people gathered 120k$ for mental health. Feels good.

And I don't have a problem with my mental health (afaik), but there are so many people, both young and adults who do, so it was a good initiative.

People were playing games and doing different activites (like standup) on stream.

A part of the initiative was to talk about how men needs to be better at showing feelings, emotions and it's okay to cry.

Thanks for reminding me The Movies is a game lost to the ages... Thanks EA :loudly-crying-face:
activision ... and MS not giving a fuck about it .... because they 100% own it now (they have for years) ... they could LITERALLY just take over the steam page for it today and re-release it (they wouldn't even have to update it - it still runs perfectly fine on modern systems) if they gave a fuck ... but they don't

Wait, so MS owns it fully?

I'm not watching to go in as blind as I can, but can I ask if there appear to be a storyline of some sort? As I said yesterday, I was concerned that this might "just" be procedurally-generated content.

Also, morning Meta!
