I bought Drop Duchy cuz Roguelike Tetris Citybuilder is a sexy combination of words, refunded it cuz i didn't get it at first, watched Northernlion play it, bought it again and now i'm hooked.

Also im still not over how insanely good Steams Video Recording is

Reviewed that DOOM game on TouchArcade Patreon (public unlocked post). I came into it being skeptical of most things, but it won me over by the end. I can see why some dislike it and also why some like it more than the last two games.

I think I need to return to Doom Eternals eventually. I complete gave up on it soon after its release. I know there are a number of mods that revamp its gameplay and bring back some player freedom. Dark Ages looks quite fun. It may not be exactly Doom 2016, but there's a ton of games these days that still do justice to that classic gameplay, and I'm open for a big high production game that does something else (as long as it's not as annoying as Eternals about it)

I've been very open about my dislike for the game's trailers and general vibe when discussing it with folks pre-release so I'd say it is a great sign that they got me on board early on in the game. The discussion around Eternal and now Dark Ages just tells me that some people are not willing to try something new. Both games have their own issues many complaints are valid based on what kind of gameplay people expect in DOOM, but some of it just looks like the typical "final fantasy fan" discourse. Let me know how you find it if you get back to it.

Too bad for the ATROCIOUS Regional Pricing in India.
118% MORE EXPENSIVE than Steam's standard regional pricing. Bethesda is straight up evil.

I miss magazines. I need a go to console site (same for PC) and the offering is so shit.
Maybe I’m missing some obvious ones ? Suggestions.

PC is dire in that department, for fuck’s sake is my choice really between RPS (RIP) and PC Gamer ? Jesus wept.
I tried replacing sites by youtubers, but apart from my French one, nothing really seems to do. I’m not interested with let’s play, I want my streamers to play games for 1-2 hours and give solid impressions backed up by experience.
In a way, Mortismal is sorta maybe compatible with what I want, too bad he is sorta maybe fucking spineless and obsessed over his 100% gimmick.

Would be amazing if they can pull it off. It would add some much value for the console and finally consoles would be more than just a living room device. They need to get GOG on this too somehow.

Problem is what happens if you play a game through Steam that doesn't work with the console's hardware limitations? Will the game just overheat and kill your console? They would need to have some type of verified system in connection with Valve through the devs. There would need to be some outright denials of playing games. Kind of like the Deck system only more strict and for the Xbox lol.

Also for this to work both Valve and Xbox have to agree with a revenue sharing structure. So if you buy a steam game on Xbox...Valve would give up some percentage of the 30% cut. It might be worth it as this is a very cheap way for Valve to penetrate the living room space. I think Gabe would have to agree to some form of this. I don't think you can just treat it like a PC unless they let you upgrade the console parts.

I just check gematsu, gamespress and forums/reddit/whatever. When someone happens to link some amazing rare long form article, docuvideo etc., it's nice.
Yeah, on the console front the situation is less dire, but still, Gematsu don’t review games, which is important to me. Ironically, it’s the opposite for PC games, reviews are not the issue but coverage is very meh.
Why, yeah, I’m musing about disconnecting from ERA and looking to fill the gap.

Multiple PC tech channels are tearing Nvidia a new one for its attempts at review manipulation of the RTX 5060 8GB, it's great to see. If only other outlets covering the games industry had a similar devotion to consumer advocacy, the industry would be in a much better place. Sadly, most regular gaming outlets tend to choose the corporation side when greedy executives try to fleece customers.

Wondering about Radeon quality in 2025. Given the shitstorm about nvidia being nvidia, and me vaguely interested in using linux, I would really like the Radeon experience to be good.
But then again, the last time I looked, their DLSS equivalent was shit.

Any Radeon users satisifed, has their DLSS (I genuinely draw a blank on the name RN) been significantly ameliored ?
Is there a real alternative to nvidia if you are more into rasterization than RTX ?

Yeah thats my hope too, that the new GPU from AMD would actually be good, but I fear that they will be too eager to follow Nvidia with massive price hikes.

By all accounts FSR4 upscaling is really good, the problems are only compatible with 9000 series (not really a problem for a new buyer) and game support, many older fsr games need mods or patches for it to work if at all, they adopted the easily swappable approach only recently.

Ew. Given the source, this could easily be false.
Microsoft doesn't deserve to still have a foothold in PC gaming, much less have Valve supporting their shitty app store.

I don't think they'll be able to call it a gaming PC. It would still be their branded living room gaming device even if it runs Windows.

They would be in charge of hardware and software. And all of the obligations that come with it like refunds, support, troubleshooting etc. It would be a tall task but unlike 3rd party hardware companies making desktops...they would still oversee everything with the Windows store. That includes money transactions which is why this would be hard to pull off. They would need to get Valve, GOG, Epic, etc on board somehow to properly advertise the benefits of this device.

If they just leave it as a backdoor for gamers to tinker with so they can play on other PC stores...it won't be as effective imo.

Still tho if they price it right it would be a good living room device. You can use it as a console or as a small form factor PC for emulation etc. And then ofc always have access to so many of your games in other libraries. You could even play Playstation games on it via Steam since most PS games have been ported lol. And ofc Gamepass.

If they price it low enough I would even consider buying 2 just to connect a M/KB and monitor to the other one.

This is also how they would be able to introduce their own handheld. So a small PC handheld as a companion device to the living room all in one console. It would make sense.

It would be an ambitious move for Xbox but they might as well try something since they have been getting stomped by Nintendo and Sony for years now.

Not been much active lately, been very sick for more than 2 week, starting to get better now though. Anyways in that time I managed to finish TLOU 2 on Steam, fantastic game and yesterdeay I started up Spidey 2 for the first time, nice looking game with ultra ray tracing.

Also decided to wait on playing Doom Dark Ages until the path tracing update is out next month. Alan Wake 2 and Indiana Jones spoiled me with how good games look with pat traching, even if it's expensive on the GPU, so hopefully Doom will also look a lot better.

If Marathon comes out this year it's going to be the next Concord. There is negative hype around the entire thing and all the plagiarism and awful working environment news only further hurts.

They can easily fix all these things by:

-Paying the artist they stole from a nice sum
-Delaying the game
-Make a good singleplayer campaign

Then release a complete product everyone will be happy with. One that will be worth the "Premium" price as well.

I don't think it'll really be a "PC" either. It might run Windows under the hood, but I'm fully expecting it to be nigh identical to their current consoles, just with a wider selection of apps to download from the Microsoft Store. The main benefits would be for developers who no longer need to make two builds for Play Anywhere support. You'd get access to other app stores if they're willing to make the client available to download on the MS Store, which works to solve the issue with the lack of apps on said store, which was a major reason Microsoft failed to make it the default method of getting software on Windows back when Windows 8 and 10 came out.

I really think most of the discussion regarding Xbox's plans is clouded by the sources and the people discussing it not knowing what they're talking about. Frankly, a lot of it reeks of fanboyism, people who've only ever played on Xbox grasping at straws to rationalize things they've spent an age refusing to engage with.

Bungle ain’t doing a single player game. Apparently that’s beneath them these days.

It would probably take 2+ years to develop a short single player campaign for Marathon. There’s no way that’s going to happen at this point.
