I wonder what the system requirements are. I'm sure I can run it on my Surface Pro 6, but I wonder if it'll work on my Linx Vision. 😅

Yes I have one of those monstrosities. It was a long time ago, before Steam Link was on Android.

I'll probably buy it? Depends on the price. Also I never played Golden, just the base PS2 one.

Queen teasing for more and Atlus putting up a developer page though... :thinking-blob:

That's cool, even though I don't have the time to spare nowadays to invest in these games.

It's great that P4 Golden has additional versions besides the Vita, but it's strange there's no P3 release as well. Maybe they're just testing the waters considering it's Atlus but who knows

I like the game (I liked P3 fes better though other than that the calendar sucked more there), but I don't think I would want to replay it, will still buy it.

Played it on PS2 long back (never completed it).

Might try it out.

P4G is basically feature complete. P3 needs work to get any version up to an acceptable standard. P4G makes sense when you think of it like that.

Played on vita, but bought it again to show my support. Feels weird seeing the game screen so big and in 60fps. Seems like a good port so far. 👍

It took me a while to adjust to the game being so smooth. I vaguely remember on PS2, especially the raggedy-ass PAL version I was stuck with, Atlus slowed the game down for 50hz. It was definitely faster on Vita when I played it on that four years later, but seeing it in 60fps is a completely different thing.

But so far, from the hour or so that I've played, I'm really happy with the port.

bought it, might play it sometime although I'm not sure if I could dedicate all those hours into it, might just play it on normal so i don't get overly obsessed with maxing out some social links (or spending too much time at that fusion screen) and just enjoy the new content, since I already played the original.

that ost suck btw if you're wondering what tracks are in there, at 160kb/s, the artbook suck too, just so you know what you're getting with the deluxe :p

So the old age question, sub or dub?

I guess most people will be familiar with the dub but from the first half hour of what I played I wasn't exactly blown away by its quality.

Wow SEGA, you finally hiked up your regional prices and shown your true colours.

This is not even mentioning the missing effects in the port.

Sub all the way in Persona games IMHO.

MegaApple that's a comparison to the PS2 version, right? That one is generally very different in terms of rendering, so I'm not sure there's an effect missing there (compared to Vita).
Also, that's the single most unflattering scene, graphically, in the entire game so far in the 25 hours I've played it. I know since I specifically remember it for that reason.

What do you mean? The price is still the same as when it was announced for me.

Regarding the backgrounds, I knew that something's off there. Is the top pic from PS2 or Vita?

Nvm, I just checked on Youtube and Vita is the same as the bottom pic. They botched it from the Golden remaster.

I remember this comparison being made from PS2 to Vita. The PC is a port of the Vita version so it's going to have the changes from that version.

It doesn't speak to the shoddiness of the PC port by any means.

Official from the beta patch or just something you whipped up on your won?
That's just dropping the DXVK dlls (note: 32 bit!) into the game folder.
DXVK really is an amazing project.

(Not that it's really much of a tangible improvement over externally locked 120 FPS, but it's very satisfying :p)

I've been hearing that dropping DXVK dlls in some titles has been bringing performance improvements, especially CPU wise. Is it something that is documented ?

Ah,.
Kaldaien already has a SpecialK build that disables motion blur (at the cost of color accuracy, sadly) and fixes some drawcall fuckery with writing textboxes, so I'd prefer to use that, but it's nice knowing there's a way to make the game run smoother.
(I get 80-120 fps in city scenes with 200% rendering res, good enough for me)

It's not really a supported use case (and please do not bother the DXVK developers about anything related to it, they have enough on their plate), but there's not much to document. Basically you just download the latest DXVK release (https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases), extract it, take the suitable dlls (from either the 32 bit or 64 bit folder) and drop them in.

It'd be interesting if a 3rd party ran some tests regarding that. Any PC publications or anything. That's... fascinating.
edit: Wow shit, it does work indeed !
Was getting 120fps in the station scene with 95% GPU usage on my 1080ti (1440p and 200% scaling).
Now I'm getting a locked 144fps in the same scene with 68% usage on the same settings.

Yes, this is the PS2 version. My friend currently playing it posted it on Facebook. Many people complained the fog effect is missing and game looks TOO clean at times.
Though I'm just mostly mad at the price hike.

I meant from their previous $19.99 tagged games (like Yakuza 0, Bayonetta, Catherine Classic). I believe you are from Indonesia right? You regional pricing is same, only ours got hiked.

I see.

For my region, they've actually hiked the price since Kiwami, which is before Catherine. P4G price is the same as those games, so this doesn't surprise me.

I wrote a bit about the franchise here:
Persona 1 and 2 were pretty different, the inflection point in the franchise is 3 (also when it exploded in popularity). So when I say "Persona" in this post I mean "Persona 3+".

Persona basically combines JRPGs, a bit of rougelike, a bit of Pokemon, a bit of "raising sims" (like Princess Maker), and a bit of VNs.
Let's unpack each of these:
  1. JRPGs -- this part should be obvious. The turn-based battle system, character leveling, equipment, and dungeon exploration are pretty vanilla JRPG.
  2. Roguelike -- the dungeons have randomly generated floors and change each time you visit. You also have rare encounters and drops and things like that.
  3. Pokemon -- your character can use the titular "Personas". You can aquire them in-game, improve them, and fuse them in a pretty neat system to create new ones. Much of the strategic interest is in preparing Personas well suited for particular battles. (Note, in terms of influence, this should really be "SMT", but a lot more people know Pokemon)
  4. Raising Sims -- the entire game is based around a calendar. On each day (and sometimes time slot), you can decide what to do. This can be anything from studying or working various side jobs over hanging out with other characters or eating out to actually going to a dungeon. All of these activities can influence, and are in turn influenced by, your non-battle skills (like knowledge, courage or diligence).
  5. VNs -- over the course of the activities I just described there are a lot of character stories you get to participate in, and you have quite a bit of choice in them (though ultimately the most meaningful choices you make are how you spend your time).
So, take all that, combine it with a modern-day Japanese highschool + supernatural setting and extremely confident, consistent and unique overall graphical styling and music, and you get Persona.

Sadly, it doesn't always work out perfectly, and there are pacing issues especially with 5 and dungeon and battle "design" issues particularly with 3, but it's also clear that there are reasons for its rather unique popularity/appeal.

Is Denuvo affecting P4's performance in any noticeable way? I've never played a JRPG before, but I've always been interested in this franchise due to its rabid fans, and I'd like to support PC ports like this.

Export from noesis to blender works too, kind of.

Something went wrong with the right arm there. Maybe some other formats work better, too lazy to test.

Mod potential might be high, at least the files seem accessible enough.

Nah. The game is basically sitting at <=5% CPU usage for me while running at 100 FPS. What affects the performance most is that the DX11 API is simply not used very efficiently. And even that matters little since it still easily runs well enough.
