|OT| PSO2 - New Genesis | Phantasy Star Online 2-2

Ship 2 seems to be the usual choice.

Beat Elder of the Unfathomable Abyss. Man it has such a cool design. :)
What ship do you guys play on? Or can I just enter any ship to play after creating a character?
Ship 4 here. Mostly solo or play with randoms.

Just bought this scarf, pretty cool and matches my character's overall tone. :fashionblob:

Man I missed PSO. Now one thing I'm not sure of, I can't seem to find the fullscreen option?

Hopefully cool costumes aren't too MTX gated.

There are setting in the launcher, by default the game isn't on max settings, there's a quality bar that has to be increased to quality 6 (default is 5), there's options for resolution, fullscreen or borderless (named virtual fullscreen), framerate settings (30, 60, 90, 120, unlimited) and other settings which are maxed by default, I think.

When it comes to costumes, many of them are sellable on player shops for meseta (in-game currency), but the ones that aren't, are obtainable with a partial premium currency (can be obtained in game, but the amount is limited from one time objectives or weekly objectives).

I'm going to play on Ship 2. I'll take a referral code if anyone wants to drop theirs.

What are the ARKS Badge even used for?

If no one else gave you a code in a few hours, I will later. I'm still at work right now.

ARKS Badge is another kind of token that you can exchange later with an NPC in the lobby.

Tried it.
Holy crap, it plays like it comes from 2012. :tightly-closed-eyes:

No seriously, the movement, the insane autotracking, the shitty fast forward animations with massive aftercasts?
Yeah no, that would have been fine in 2004.
Not in 2020, I place it easily as the worst combat I've played in any action MMO.

Well, it is a 2012 game, that's when it was released in Japan.

I have no idea what you mean by "fast forward animations with massive aftercasts" though. What class did you even try?

The combat is pretty limited early on, it opens up as the player gets more skills/abilities.
Classes released before 2017 had to be rebalanced and sped up, so I guess they may feel a bit jarring?

The incoming classes starting in Episode 5 (that were released on JP starting in 2017) play a bit differently, for example, the Episode 5 class in the hands of a high level player:

There's also the incoming new game in 2021, PSO2 New Genesis, which has a revamped combat system, new engine and such:

I started with Bouncer, which is hilariously bad, but even the hunter, the force or the gunner play like relics of a time long gone; and to be hoenst it is faitfhul to PSo2 where you spent so much time doing nothing but waiting for your character to finish animations cycles and finally get control back. But that was 2000.
And yes, 2012, I know that's why I said it. :face-savouring-delicious-food:
In 2012 TERA was also released, and the combat blows PSO2 out of the water. Just moving around is fun and not a character freaking out in 8 axis movement with piss poor animations.

But in a world where you can play something like Black Desert? Yeesh.
Though of course, other games have plenty of issues, and PSo2 is the low effort, low everything game really, where you dress up your waifu. Different public, for sure.

I edited my previous post with a bit more stuff.
I tried TERA years ago and hated how it players when compared to PSO2, I guess different tastes?

About waiting for animations to finish, some attacks have faster animations, other have slower, some are cancelable through different means, between dodging or "weapon actions" such as guarding, some have invulnerability frames. Pretty much gotta pick the right attacks for the right situations, but since very few are available early on, new players don't really get a good look at the combat at its best.

The current classes available on the EN version, Braver may be the most fast paced one, I guess.

I don't particularly love TERA, but just, again, moving around, works. PSO2 on keyboards is outright disgusting 8 axis movement, the kind that people rightfully slammed Ys8 for.
PSO2 tries to go for heavy, stiff actions, with no animations that link them. So you just end up with characters freaking the fuck out (up to their autotargets if applicable), zero frames of recovery, no care given to make anything smooth and fast. It's just ridiculous when even games from the time had some amount of polish.

It feels like I'm playing SAO and other Z tier garbage.

I guess that's why I have such a great time playing Force. 11 hours in now.

I honestly couldn't give less of a shit how my character animates during combat in a game like this. It's not like I ever look at that.

Force here as well. Played with controller. I will definitely switch class after reaching Lv80 and honestly I have no problem with the animation or control.

Im Playing in server 4, playing bouncer with jet boots, very fun game.

I Should do story mission?

Xbox, Windows Store, & Steam all have crossplay right?
Yep.

The story is mostly cutscenes with a few gameplay parts. There used to be more gameplay segments originally, but part of the story was cut a few years ago to make it faster for players to catch up with the newer story episodes... :/

Still, running the story is still worth it, you can win star gems and other rewards from clearing the story (including S ranking the playable sections in hardcore mode), and you also get to play through a few story exclusive areas.

This game may have awaken my inner gambler. I have never gambled in real life yet I have spent a lot of time in the casino in-game.

Edit: Earned 7000 chips in a single round of slot machine lol. This is dangerous.

Speaking of casino, you can exchange 10SG for 1000 chips at the gift shop everyday. So basically, you can waive the price of premium mission pass (ie. 200SG) in exchange of 20000 chips in 20 days. 1000 chips are easy to earn at the high-risk high-return slot machine so I would definitely recommend this method to those who are playing this game F2P (like me).

If I grab this Rare Drop Rate +250%, will the effect stack with Triboost +150% ? Or should I let their effect expire first?

If you use the tri-boost first and then the rare drop, there should be a confirmation window that the drop rate will be extended.

That's not correct, rare drop boost does stack with triboost, they're considered different boosters and have their own separate timers.
Same for the EX boosters (from SG scratch), for example, EX triboost stacks with regular triboost.

Thanks for the correction.

I guess the confirmation window is only for the same booster (appying triboost on top of triboost)

The confirmation window is only when using different boosters of the same type, for example, using a triboost +100% on top of a triboost +50%. The 100% will replace the 50% and the timer will reset if the player accepts the confirmation.

When using multiple of the same booster (like multiple triboost +100%), they'll just stack with each other without confirmation windows up to a max of 2 hours (120 minutes). If the max is reached, the game will just refuse to use the booster.

Ah ah, I love hate this game so much. I had to google the gold mission ticket to understand how you get the other items in the current pass.
And I’m still not sure, you have to run the game and read the explanation, or good luck in the menu hell.

i played the persona 3 concert , its really easy, you press X or Y (XBOX controller) like a rythm game, not sure what gives but i did it.

I still haven't seen the concert yet, the schedules are out of my playtime lol. There are more schedules for the weekend, but I already have a plan. Woe is me. :pensive-face:

How long is it going to last anyway, only for a week?

i was in until every mission is a cutscene, so i skipped all and still was like 1 hour.

Episodes 2,3 and 4 are the same?
Probably the same, but I would recommend you watching the cutscene (or watch the anime "Episode Oracle") as the story is way better than I expected.

Yeah, cutscenes, and the story in general, are long. I thought the Dark Falz is the final boss of episode 1, but it just keeps going on and on. Very meaty game. We can really tell there is really eight years of work in this game.

Note that there are parts of the story that are important for Episode 6 that were skipped in the anime (the Amduskia related chapters in Episode 1 and 2 and the whole Episode 3).
Then i will watch the videos in youtube,

found 1 youtube channel with videos episodes
episode 1: 4 hours and 25 min
episode 2: 6 hours and 6 min.
episode 3: 4 hours 26 min.

i discovered you can re play missions again, probably will do that
