Experience survival horror like never before in Resident Evil Village, which will utilize the power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to elevate each desperate fight to survive by showcasing the most realistic and terrifying graphics to date. The all-new title is the eighth major installment in the storied Resident Evil franchise, which established the survival horror genre nearly 25 years ago. The title is currently in development using next generation console technology and Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, used to create vivid gameplay experiences in hit titles such as Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Devil May Cry 5. With hyper-detailed graphics, intense first-person action and masterful storytelling, the terror has never felt more realistic and inescapable.

Set a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again. Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from the Resident Evil series, is reacquainted with the couple and horribly disrupts their life, spiraling Ethan into chaos. A devastated Ethan finds himself in a remote snow-capped village seeking answers after being thrown into an entirely new nightmare.

Resident Evil Village will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Steam in 2021.

Key Features
  • All New Resident Evil Experience – Picking up where Resident Evil 7 biohazard left off, Resident Evil Village is the eighth major installment in the flagship Resident Evil series. The game sees the reunited Ethan and Mia Winters living happily together and putting their shared nightmares of the Baker’s plantation behind them… until their life is upended and Ethan becomes the focal point of a new nightmare.
  • Next Generation Technology – RE Engine paired with the new technological power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will deliver hyper-detailed graphics, bringing the shadowy village and its haunting residents to life. Resident Evil Village will showcase the most realistic survival horror experience to date.
  • First-Person Action – Players will assume the role of Ethan Winters and experience every up-close battle and terrifying pursuit through a first-person perspective.
  • Familiar Faces and New Foes – Chris Redfield has typically been a hero in the Resident Evil series, but his appearance in Resident Evil Village seemingly shrouds him in sinister motives. A host of new adversaries inhabiting the enigmatic village will relentlessly hunt Ethan and hinder his every move as he attempts to make sense of the new nightmare he finds himself in.
  • A Living, Breathing Village – More than just a mysterious backdrop for the horrifying events that unfold in the game, the village is a character in its own right with mysteries for Ethan to uncover and terrors to escape from.

I fore one really like the FPV :shrugblob:. Makes me even more at unease, also some of the brutal RE7 FPV sequences (like the arm dismemberment) were amazing, disgusting and scary because of it. Secondly, it allows for a great VR implementation. Though that's only a thing for a second play though for me. RE7 was already scary enough in non VR for me.

If they make it VR compatible on PC that might turn me back around on the first person view. Maybe I'm just stuck in my ways, but I think RE games are third person titles. The FPV just feels wrong to me for this series.

I mean, I like TPV games as well, and RE2, R3 were great with it, but I also played RE2 remake with a FPV mod and it was great. I think RE is very well suited to be a FPV game, it just wasnt always one (just like it wasnt always TPV either), so adjustment takes time, yeah. Ideally you'd be able to switch between FPV and TPV, but I dont think thats gonna happen.

Do you guys think Ghostwire: Tokyo can be an immersive sim? Please let it be an immersive sim. :dana_tense:
:anguished-face: wrong thread?
Setting looked great, the combat didn't strike me. Hard to say what it will turn out to be.

The Steam page only mentions Ethan, but it has been indicated previously by leaks that the game features multiple playable characters at various points in the game, much like RE7. It's difficult to separate the bullshit from the legit leaks, but I think a general trend is Ethan+Chris+Female character "Emily". The female character was supposedly Rebecca back when it had been rebranded as Revelations 3 before being switched back to a mainline title, but I'm gonna assume you play as the female villager seen in the trailer when you're not playing as Ethan.

The woman in the middle is likely Alex Wesker/Natalia Korda from Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Previous leaks have claimed Alex Wesker has a role in the game.

There is the problem of her being much older than Natalia realistically would be. Buuuut she's drinking Ethan's blood, so it's possible the "witches"/vampires have an aging problem that they counteract with blood. Others have also noted that the kitchen in the trailer is full of garlic.

Capcom is teasing Resident Evil Village with a new Mother Miranda portrait, the map of the village, and a clearer promo image released

The first image is a portrait that gives us our first real look at Mother Miranda — who plays a central part in the story yet the details still remain a mystery. What has been revealed in past trailers is that Lady Dimitrescu has spoken and communicated with MM, and we’ll likely find answers once RE Village is released and we play the entire game in full.

The second image is literally a map of the entire village and location the game takes place in — a remote European snowy setting that has a town and a large castle looming above it in the mountains.

Finally, we have a clearer look at the previously released promotional image, which features Ethan Winters, Chris Redfield, Baby Rose, and the still unidentified mysterious enemy that will feature in the game.

Only a little way through myself, just got to the castle. Really been enjoying it, definately more action but it has been incredible to go through these environments.

As for the DF video. I feel lucky that I don't notice any sort of hitching when killing enemies as some people have pointed out (the demo did drop frames when close to the one sister). Had to use the Fov mod though as it was way too narrow. Otherwise it's been beautiful experience.
