it wouldn't make sense (financially) to just axe the entire thing because of that
Without sounding too insensitive about the non-importance of videogames when Japanese society was threatened by rampant drug use, I hope they'll still go ahead with their localisation plans in the west. I know the proper policy for a Japanese company when one is even remotely associated with drug use is scorched earth, but I hope they consider the fact that the western world views drug-related infractions as less severe compared with say, getting caught with a collection of child pornography.
It's ironic if you consider a recent Japanese artist was charged with possession of CP, yet you can still purchase his work and the reprimand was practically a slap in the wrist.
