Supernova Capital today announced the acquisition of independent Polish studio, Flying Wild Hog.

This is the debut partnership from Supernova, which was co-founded by former Splash Damage CEO Paul Wedgwood in 2018 after selling the company for around $160 million two years prior.

Established nearly a decade ago, Flying Wild Hog is best-known for rebooting the Shadow Warrior series.

Flying Wild Hog was working with Supernova before the acquisition. Recently it has grown to over 180 staff, is opening a third office in Rzeszów, Poland and expanding its game portfolio.

"With Supernova, it feels like we have reconnected with our older, more experienced siblings," said CEO Michał Szustak. "They share the same values as us - passion for players, employee happiness, and boundary-pushing creativity.

"The last 10 years of Hogs' history wasn't always easy but I feel that with Supernova, we can finally focus on the thing we love the most: making awesome games. New owners or not, the Flying Wild Hog you know won't be changing its culture, and we've got some exciting new game announcements to share with you soon."

Based on comments from Wedgwood, Supernova Capital promises a very distinct form of private equity.

"This is a completely new venture, built on the premise of solving one simple problem: founders and CEOs face a significant amount of stress and pressure as the years pass, ultimately trickling down to their staff and fans," he said.

"We designed Supernova to reignite the passion in struggling star developers by simply caring for them: reducing confusion, decreasing politics, raising productivity, profitability, and dramatically improving morale - essentially fusing their talents with Supernova's proven leadership, so that together, we can create the happiest and healthiest and most profitable studios in our solar system."

I didn't know Wedgwood had sold off SplashDamage, but if this all means FWH can keep the lights on an put out more quality titles I'm for it

yeah, we'll see how it pans out ... too bad they won't be published by Devolver anymore, though :(

The announcement doesn't mention that, and unless Devolver really shit the bed with SW2 I don't see why theyd jump ship because of a new owner

yeah, i suppose ... but then again - they're not indie any longer, so it's not their choice anymore
