Does your power supply not support 12HPVR cables? Most newer Corsair PSUs should have them, I would think. It lives-

It needs 4 seperate PCI-E cables, luckilynI had some spare as it says not to use splitters.
The stand that came with it is massively too short, have bodged something together for now until I can make something at work.
Makes my old 3080ti look tiny.

I dont think so, this is my PSU.
HX1500i Fully Modular Ultra-Low Noise Platinum ATX 1500 Watt PC Power Supply (UK)
That's the cable I mean. It somehow supports two of them at the same time, if I read this. (kinda overkill)
This way you don't need those 4 red cables and the adapter, just this one that goes directly to the PSU.
I think this is still fairly recent, that's why there was all that panic about these kinds of cables melting. I think the problem is technically still there, and can happen if you seat them incorrectly (as in, having the cable almost half way loose). Of course, still horrible as the PSU should never allow so much energy to be send through any pin as to cause a legit fire hazard.Just checked, I dont have those cables with my PSU- it's from 2022, so maybe it's too old.
Spray themYeah, I have been on the Corsair website and ordered this just to be safe.
As these cables are a few years old.
Shame they dont do them in red to match the rest of my cables.
Not really, if we are talking cheap places. When it comes to buying hardware, what is the best and cheapest way to do it? Amazon? Is importing an option?
Li Kao Do you know by any change good French places to buy?
Yeah been looking around and it does indeed seem like amazon has the best prices, but it's not by much. I did want to support local business but I also want to afford to buy it.XDNot really, if we are talking cheap places.
I look at Amazon by default because they have the best prices, and if it's not sold by Amazon but a third party I look at regular priced but reliable places like LDLC or Materiel.net.
I 99% of the time do not fuck with third party sellers, it's a plague.
Oh I have actually used that site, to see what kind of builds others have done with the case I will base my build on, didn't know one could shop through it. But yeah definitely using that site now!Le Pertti Ever heard of pcpartpicker? I find it to be the best resource to search for parts or to just look for what's good at any given moment.
You can select any region you want and within the EU most stores ship to France, and considering the price of the parts it's often free, so you can check french, german, spanish, italian... stores as well while hunting for the best deal.
Nothing really, I just missed building my own computers and tinkering. Also Linux seems to be a spot where I don’t even have to touch windows at all. And the more coding I learn the more I want to learn LinuxIm curious, what changed your mind on building a PC Le Pertti ?
So in my ambition to save for a PC, I think I will go the route of buying hardware when I can, so to collect parts. But to keep an eye on whats coming and rumours and all that, what hardware site do you all vouch for?
Like the first thing I think I will buy is the case, since I would guess that is the one least likely to become obsolete, but maybe there are rumours of a refresh coming or something.
If your 3080s with its current cable hasn't burned down yet, then you are fine. The problem is with either with bad cables, which are not to spec or sometimes due to bad cable mounts, say when the cable isn't fully seated or extremely bent. The problem is that usually, power cable standards are designed with so much headroom that even being a bit out of spec (while not great) wouldn't mean that something potentially melts. 12VHPWR is designed with so little headroom, that not being up to spec is a fire hazard, only made worse if due to user handling, the cables don't connect well, and hence uneven resistances on the pins can occur due to bad mounts, even if the cable is fine.I hope my 3080 can last until this shitshow is over/fixed. Or better yet, AMD can match the dlss4 quality and RT performance quickly.

probably makes sense to avoid Nvidia then? I don't see Nvidia changing course. My 3080 is the usual 2x8 pin, so it'll be fine, What I meant was I hope it can last until the 12v shitshow is changed/"fixed" for my next GPU upgrade, whatever that GPU is. Already watch every content of the 12v saga so far from GN/der8. Don't really want to have a GPU with that connector if I can, although I know with midrange cards it's probably fine.
If you mean the Estimate wattage that Pcpartpicker shows, it's the maximum wattage if all your components are at max (which realistically will rarely happen but you can get close to it).I put together a "dream" build, not only is the cost like 2500 euros! But something I also been wondering about, it says the build will consume 550W of power, like I knew PCs a super power hungry, but is that under heavy load or just minimum load? It's quite a difference, I will be going from Mac minis 65w under heavy load, or ps5 pros 230w under heavy load. My partner is going to kill me when she sees the bump in the electric bill.XD
I was able to manage to order a build. 9800X3D based, besides the 9950X3D not being available at a non-scalped price, I think I'd just be that much more nervous installing that much more of an expensive CPU. Not sure when I'll actually assemble but it has been >6 years.
looking great.Got that Corsair cable fitted, tidies it up a lot.

Still using my makeshift GPU stand extender, but a guy I know said he'll 3D print me something, just got the measurements so that sould be here soon.
Got and Asus Prime 9070 xt for AMD launch prices.
How screwed I am if I have to make valid the warranty?
After 5 years I will buy a new PC. Don't really have much experience with the current market but this is what I picked:
![]()
Is that OK?
The pulse 9070 seems to be the best card of the bunch in regard to noise and heat
The CPU watercooler should be ok?
I won't be building it myself, Alternate.de will put that thing together but will take 200€ for it. There are other cheaper alternatives but their configurators are very limited and often have higher priced items from other manufacturers instead.
Only issue is, that the Pulse is the only card that is currently not available at alternate![]()
dunno why the part picker declares it as a mid towerWhat do you mean? Why would you willingly void the warranty? Can't you just make a RMA claim and get a replacement?
If you're afraid of availability, it seems to be a lot better now than a couple months ago, at least in europe. In the us things are still dire from what I understand.
I'm not really sure the 7800x3d really needs watercooling, a good dual fan air cooler should suffice, but you need to make sure it can fit the case as the 9070xt is a chunky boy and will use a lot of internal space and you seem to be going for a mid case.
200€ for assembly feels insane. I also asked the store I bought things from to assemble my pc and it costed 37€...

I think, that the tower is one big case?

with the watercooling (i just care about noise levels, especially because it will sit on the desk right/behind me instead and not on the floor) it would have 7 fans. 3 front, 3 top, 1 back.Technically that's a mid-case (Mid-Tower Vs Full-Tower: What You Need To Know For Your Build) but it should be fine, there seems to be a lot of room to fit everything.
If you end up going with air cooling I'd probably put an exhaust fan on top next to the cpu cooler just to help cool a bit more. The amazon listing you sent as a 5-fan version that might be interesting for this use case.
At this point, at 2025 pricing, I really don’t know what my next hardware will be.
A ruinous new PC ? A Deck ? A fucking console ?
2500 for a gaming PC is a good 1000 too high.

Do you think I should wait for the Pulse to be available again or should I get another 9070xt?
I looked but nowhere else has the freedom to pick all the parts.Honestly the gpu is the easiest part to mount, it's basically plug & play, so you can get it from anywhere else and just slot it in and plug the power cables in yourself without any issues.
But I'd really consider looking someplace else that doesn't charge you 200€ for assembly, that's insane and an upgraded part by itself.
Asus is best known for awful post sell support. They void warranties almost for anything. What do you mean? Why would you willingly void the warranty? Can't you just make a RMA claim and get a replacement?

And sometimes because of that the price is even higher.
And some configurators also just show "any vendor" on the GPU! and if you pick for example their preferred choice the Gigabyte variant, it is 100€ - 200€ pricier than the "any vendor" pick. WTF
For example the NVIDIA 5070 TI from the other configurator:

with the AMD GPU its "only" 50-100€ difference, but still, WTF!
(and picking this configurator I don't get the specific parts, and it is still 150€ pricier than alternate without assambly.
