As a tech enthusiast I’d like to buy one as soon as I can, but since I’m building a PC soon I don’t think I’m eager to shell even more money this year.

I am undecided. I skipped this console generation. Maybe I will jump in back with the new generation?
But I will probably upgrade my PC first.

I’ll likely buy one for Demon’s Souls but I don’t think it’s a launch game. I’ll have to see the launch lineup to make a decision about pre-ordering.

It still early for me to decide, but this looks like the first console generation since 16-bit gen (when I was just a kid and too young for even a paper route) where I didn't buy any console that gen at launch.

The launch candidates for PS5 are really unappealing to me. I have zero interest in Spider Man. Never watched any of the movies nor owned any of the games. None of the exclusives are really speaking to me. A quick look at my Steam wishlist and other platforms' games I'm anticipating puts the front runner exclusive, Ratchet & Clank, around my 25th most anticipated...

I actually can't remember ever being less interested in consoles than I am with these announcements.

PS4 had a bunch of titles that were definitely launch bait for me, Killzone, Resogun, and Knack stand out in my memory.
PS3 had Resistance, but I still waited until the Japanese launch of Virtua Fighter 5 (which was a killer app for me) to buy.
PS2 had Tekken Tag Tournament - still my fav Tekken series, forget about the rest...
PS1 had just a bevy of amazing launch games...

strong chance of purchase, I guess it depends on the timing, I want to build a new PC too and I'm not sure if I want to spend money on both at the end of the year, I've been saving my money though, because we're still half way through 2020 :p

I wouldn't even mind just going PS5 primarily, I run games at around the same graphical settings as consoles half of the time anyway, and I skipped the entire PS4 gen so I'll have a ton of first party games to play at launch, and probably timed exclusives or whatever companies love to do these days.

I'll wait a few years or so for the big exclusives to be released then I'll consider getting one.

I doubt I'll pickup any console, much like I did this generation. At no other time in history have I felt the value in owning a console to be so low. The vast majority of games today are multi-platform. Not to mention there are far more good games coming out than anyone has time to play. Microsoft are publishing first-party games on Steam even. Quite a few Sony exclusives are starting to come as well. Prior to this generation I'd pick them all up, at some point. Unless Nintendo and Sony first-party are a must-have, I don't really see the point anymore.

Yeah, all of that, plus the idea that I have a somewhat "incomplete" system without paying a monthly fee for online makes it even less enticing.

Pass, as after buying an Xbox One X, which I now use exclusively as a 4K bluray player and Amazon Prime box, I'm never buying another console.

I said wait till price drop on poll, but I only buy consoles when atleast 5 appeal to me so it will most likely be end of next year (maybe). Of the launch titles we know, none of the exclusives interest me- (I was one of the crazy people who though Spiderman on PS4 was a 7/10 at best. When Horizon,Demons Souls and Ratchet launch that will be three, would just need two more.

Depends on price, and also my layout, because honestly the thing is so huge (38cm!) I’m not sure I can fit it in my entertainment center without airflow problems.

With now the slow trickle of Sony games going to PC it's tough to know what's exclusive to the console or will hit PC. But odds are I'll buy a PS5 fairly early. I was really impressed by a lot of what they showed. Ratchet essentially seals the deal but if Horizon 2 is exclusive that's another guaranteed purchase for me.

Many of the games shown are things that I'd consider in the "I'll buy it eventually" bucket so as long as enough stuff isn't available to get on PC I'm pretty set on the PS5.

About price, there was supposedly a leak on Amazon.fr (source)
Price is 499€ (disc version), release date 20. November. Could be faked though, it's not like faking a screenshot is hard.

Personally I'm not that interested, which is strange.
I bought both a PS2 and PS3 late into their life cycles and enjoyed them quiet a lot (more of a financial problem at the time).
My PS4 was bought on day one, I even grudgingly upgraded to a Pro down the road, but the PS5 is just something I'm taking notice off without special interest.

For one I hated the idea of the "Pro" version and having to spend money on a mid gen upgrade. I can't even explain why, as I'm regularly upgrading my PC hardware and fine with it. But all I can think off is to wait for a potential PS5Pro.
My biggest problem are the exclusive games, because there were only three I enjoyed this generation.

1.) Bloodborne
2.) God of War
3.) HZD. Not so much for the gameplay, but the setting and awesome Sci-Fi mystery grabbed me with a passion.

All the rest that I bought? Either mediocre or underwhelming like The Order 1886 or Killzone Shadowfall.
Uncharted 4 is okay from a "Uncharted Story" perspective, but the gameplay was often drawn out and boring. Especially the climbing finally overstayed its welcome for me.
I picked up Until Dawn for cheap and it was fine enough for a TV like weekend. But it's nothing special.
Infamous Second Son: It's a mediocre game. Does anybody even remember it?
The Last Guardian was charming and at least something new.
Spider-Man: Boring open world design, I didn't enjoy the combat. Story and traversal was entertaining though.
Days Gone is okayish, nothing special and a bit forgettable.

Future Games:

The gameplay presentation of Ghosts of Tsushima ringed every alarm bell for me. I don't want this exact open world gameplay loop anymore. Even thinking about the potential open world gameplay in HZD 2 makes me tiered and I don't know if there is enough of a story motivation left for me to come back, as HZD 1 (mostly) explained what happened to earth and why there are machines roaming earth.
The final nail in the coffin was the PS5 presentation. The two games that looked most interesting to me were the strange Capcom "Kojima" like game and RE 8.

I'll probably end up buying the console anyway. But I think I'll go back to buying it later into its lifecycle. Unless the games start coming out on PC anyway, with a delay of course.

Only if it has backwards compatibility.
Backwards compatibility with PS4 has been confirmed a number of times, for example here. A feature that would give me about 100% more reason to fork over the big bucks for one would be if they'd actually bring compatibility to every previous Playstation system over to PS5. Yes, including PSP/Vita (for PSN games). With this hardware base, it'd be feasible, although still challenging for PS3.

Waited about 4 years b4 I finally picked up the PS4. All the previous playstations took me like 1-2 years after launch before getting them.

I really don't see a point in buying a console until there is 4-5 really good exclusive games for it.

I'll wait for a slim version of PS5 before getting it.

Bumping this thread since, lol, pre-orders are still possible :steam_pig_grinning:, and also to remind people the poll is open for another three years and you can change your vote at any time.

Great timing, I was just yesterday musing about the release fiasco of this new gen.
I'm sure some would say fiasco isn't the right word, that it couldn't be helped etc. but the situation is so sad. If you knew you had so few units, why did you release ? And those Japanese charts ! While, yes, it's another topic, they are horrible. And new games, what games ?

There are barely any games, there aren't any console, this is... at best you can phrase it like someone on another board, it's a new gen Early Access.

I'm thinking what this means for the product segmentation of the NEXT next-gen:

  • One cloud "console", available for everyone on the day of launch, for $15.99 a month (cloud service then collapses under demand as soon as the christmas school holidays around the world start).
  • One high-end hardware console (but does not support games on physical media), available for pre-order at launch for $1599 (will still be perenially sold out until March)

I'm not as interested in PS5 as I was in PS4. That's all Sony's doing. I gave them a pass for their backwards compatibility seven years ago, but I won't extend the same courtesy this time.

It doesn't help the system is ugly. At this point I'm waiting for a Slim version with a nicer design at a cheaper price.

Pre-orders are not possible here in Sweden. Both the PS5 and the PS5 digital edition are completely sold out and the backlog is apparently so large that no company offers the PS5 for sale

I have thought about buying to be able to play Demon's Souls, 60 fps Days Gone and 60 fps Tsushima, but Sony is making the decision easy for me by not offering their console for sale. I am not sure how wise the current sales strategy is, but I guess it is possible that people will continue to be excited for the console despite not being able to buy it for months
