Boy, I wasn't really into mil-sims but after having tasted it with ARMA3 I'm fascinated with complex sandboxes like those.
Operation Flashpoint being made by the ARMA devs and probably the OG modern mil-sim, this documentary is right up my alley.

Lovely video on this series, the guys voice is awesome.
I'll always have fond memories of these games. I still remember my dad buying the first game (the big cardboard box where you could open the front) and I would wait till he was finished playing for the night, so that I could go on and have my chance with it. It was one of the first times I really felt immersed in a game. I have ended up sticking with the series through the years although I still have to buy the latest DLC for arma 3.
