Maybe when Hollow Moon finished with their project, inserting the EN script into the Switch version won't be outside the realm of possibility, since I'm 99% sure they're all using the same engine (Kiriri)

EDIT: I didn't read the tweet properly. :flare_lmao:

Speaking of which, how's the Tsuki Remake translation project coming along?
Pretty good tbh

It still needs a lot of work considering how long Tsukire is. Something tells me that Tsukire will be next for an official localization after Mahoyo though. Makes more sense to start with Mahoyo considering it's impending re-release and that it's shorter than Tsukire.

Faster than I expected. But I thought TsukiRe is actually shorter since it's missing the Far Side Routes?
Tsukire is still around 40+ hours even with the missing routes, they greatly expanded the two routes in the game, especially the Ciel route. Meanwhile Mahoyo is probably about 25~ hours to complete.

Finished Yukino route of KoiTate. Good twist, memorable scenes and awesome delivery from the casts. Some people may think the story is too old-schooled but I love old-school romance. Also I maybe enjoying this one too much because I didn't skip one single line in this second playthrough, and will probably do it again and again in subsequent playthroughs. Definitely a first in my VN reading career.

Also, although our protag Shuuji / Taeko was cross-dressing throughout the story, this guy is an absolute chad. Totally deserve the harem. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-tightly-closed-eyes:

Oh, and the opening song of the sequel is great. Have been looping the complete version past week.

This comes out in an hour. I was always curious about the original, I think I played something like this back then but I can't remember which game it was since there were some with similar names.

I have no idea really, all I remember is that there was a ski resort in the game and there were probably a ton of these back then, lol. Might not even be related or from the same dev.

I bought it, looks like you need to link your steam profile to Johren if you want the R18+ patch. It's just a 1.3gig zip file so you could probably just download it anywhere.

I think you just need to make an account on Johren if you want to download the patch (nsfw). I didn't need to link my Steam to my Johren account or anything to add the patch to my library. There's also no DRM listed anywhere on the page either.

I just noticed that the Doukyuusei title is different in my region. On my page it says "Doukyusei Remake" but the English title is Dōkyūsei: Bangin' Summer.

This subtitle has me rolling lmao. Do we need to be that explicit?

pretty sure banging in there is meant in its “loud energetic beat”, “excellet”, “brilliant” or such meaning

Can't say I am convinced because of the word choice. I think they know exactly what they are doing :kissing-face:

Not necessarily a bad thing per se. Just thought it was funny because just "remake" is good enough.

The Steam Deck is PERFECT for VN !
Most VN are not compatible.

What a fucking tragedy.

I should try Muramasa with the latest Proton GE, but yeah, fat chance.

I was looking, for science, at the first Meteor World Actor and, yeah, I know the answer to the compatibility looking for it.

Muramasa works, supposedly, but requires some workarounds not to crash constantly.
And no, Deck is hardly a perfect medium for VNs.
Since it doesn't have an OLED screen and no VNs I know of use 16:10 aspect ratio, you will always have blackIPS gray bars.
Screen is kind of small too, it's not a Switch scenario where font sizes are usually adjusted to be readable - so you will get eyestrain.
I'm getting a Deck soon, but I will continue to stream VNs from my desktop to my OLED tablet. Way better experience.

We are not seeing eye to eye on this one, I know that. Sure, perfect was too strong a word, but I will take local play over streaming any time.
And the butt of the joke is that steam streaming on Deck is far better than on my ipad. I'm doomed. If it was flawless, mmh, I could get over my dislike of streaming, but damn, it's as if my apartment is a wifi signal swiss cheese...

I'm jealous, now :cryblob:

PS. My router is 2.4 / 5 Ghz, I wonder if there is better stuff out there, same for the ipad. But that a fucking premium bill for reading VN anyways.

The support will get there. No one was expecting most VNs to work flawlessly (and in some cases if at all) on a new platform that's barely two months old and only a tiny fraction of the audience already owns, especially when it comes to old JP developed visual novels. And I know Linux has been around but to most VN devs it may as well not even have existed.

As the audience for the platform grows, so will the demand. And if the Deck takes off in anyway like the Switch does in JP, that would pressure VN devs into better supporting the platform with new/updated releases, like they do now for the Switch.

To be fair, Steam Remote Play is ass on my Android tablet (Galaxy S5e, Wifi 5), but I use Moonlight and it's all aces.
But on my newer phone (Galaxy A52s, Wifi 6), Moonlight is ass, while Steam Remote Play works like a dream.
Go figure...

Yeah, I agree, it is frustrating in a lot of ways since I feel like anime and manga have the opposite issue where relationships are strung along for ages with no guarantee it will ever lead to anything more than a basic confession (and in some cases it is left open ended). Then on the other extreme is VNs where it goes from "Hey, I kinda like you" and the scene to follow is hardcore :lewdblob: . I love romance themes, but it is tricky to find quality romance. :cryingwhyblob:

Well I’m convinced!
How does one get this game in English?
Purchase the JP digital version of the game here. (it's been on sale for 50% off so it's up to you if you want to wait)

Read the instructions on how to patch it here. It should be relatively simple since last I checked it comes with an installer, but either way just follow the instructions and make sure you have the most up to date version of the patch since iirc there's been some TL fixes released since.

The installer doesn't work anymore, since it was hardcoded to use a single dropbox account to download all the external data.
You need to get the files from the link here
Yeah I just checked the VNDB link and it just links to the same drive now. Either way it should just be as simple as downloading and dropping all the correct files into the appropriate install dir.

Downunder.
Speaking of White Album 2, I managed to fix the Steam Overlay compatibility issue with dgVoodoo. Taking screenshots when the game is scaled using Lossless Scaling is now working properly. I just have to find a spot where the subtitles hook is triggered to make sure the d3d9.dll proxying still works.

Steam Deck has increased my VN reading time so much, I need to restock soon (Golden Week sale next week, hopefully 🤞 )

Played through the Ace Attorney trilogy in less than 3 weeks.
Currently finishing up Cho Dengeki Stryker (I played the original storyline a while back already, but the first new route felt pretty filler and with the Steam Deck around the corner I didn't feel like continuing).
I seem to be going through that pretty fast now as well :evilblob:
That game doesn't work 100% perfectly unfortunately, the videos don't work. At least there aren't many and most of them were in the first half so I've already seen them.

Anyway, I have my eyes on Baldr Sky, Muv-Luv and the Utawarerumono trilogy for things to read next, but we'll see.

Meh, Muramasa is still in limbo for me. Of all the VN I had to start a really long one that is allergic to linux.
I may start a compatible one soon, but I fear for my Muramasa playthrough.

On the bright side I tried Meteor World Actor and it launches. No idea about videos and actual play though.

I only got mine Deck this week so haven't played much yet (Chapter 3) of Baldr Sky but it works perfectly well for now - the only minor issues are a black screen before main menu (title screen?) and unsurprisingly OP video won't play either.

The OPs for baldr sky 1 and 2 play on boot up before hitting the title screen, which is why you probably get a black screen there. But yeah that seemed to be the only issues for the game pre-release and you can always just youtube the OPs. Unfortunate that SP never got around to fixing it though since Baldr Sky is a perfect example of a game that'd you want running natively on something like a deck rather than through streaming.

Didn't they tweet that they were pleasantly surprised by BD on Deck ? Maybe there is a chance.

It had a Platinum on ProtonDB and I recall seeing a tweet from them being about how well it works out of the box, so I was hoping it would be all good.
Shame it also has video issues, though if that's the only thing wrong it's not too bad I suppose.

I was really hoping the video stuff on the Deck would have been solved by now though. They sounded really confident about it months ago. :/

The game had a number of engine issues when SP first got their hands on it and started localizing it, so they were probably shocked more than anyone else that everything besides video worked right out the bat on Deck. Maybe as more people get their hands on the deck and demand rises, but I'm not sure how difficult it would be for them to fix, especially since Giga never gave SP access to the raw videos so they couldn't even properly edit them to credit the translators/staff on the project.

The only three videos in the game are the 2 OPs and the Grand ED, all completely unchanged from the JP version for reasons I mentioned above, so at least you can just Youtube them. Though it would be ideal if they could get around to fixing it.

In other news

Nothin too wild here, but the line at the end is pretty noteworthy

In other news, we plan to attend Anime Central (May 20th-22nd) this year! We have a number of exciting announcements coming, but you’ll just have to be patient! We hope everyone remains happy and healthy this year as we cautiously return to the world of conventions.
note the italics on the words "number" "patient" "happy" "healthy" and "world" as your hints.

Just in case you lot missed it (if nobody else posted it too as I don't check this thread, but barely anyone commented in the other thread I mentioned it). I think it counts as a VN and a relatively unique one at that with the various time limits and other such features that spice up dialogue selection. There are some battle segments which aren't a common VN feature but they are few and far between, one per chapter or similar (it's set up like an anime with episodes and even a "coming up next" preview at the end of each), without leveling or items even though it resembles an SRPG. Only your dialogue choices which may affect the morale of the team members can increase or decrease their battle stats, as well as specific story progression points. Lots of nice art and animated scenes.

This was updated to v2.1. I'll jump in for a full play, it's grade A professional stuff like the Mother 3 translation.

The first Game Boy mini game riddled Sakura Wars VN was translated too. How many GB VNs are there?
