Just for the record, I'm not one of the people wholly responsible for the creation of this place. I was asked my opinion on some things and offered it. That said, welcome to MetaCouncil, a different kind of forum!

First and foremost: This was created as an experiment, something different from your usual forum. It was created with the full knowledge it could crash and burn in a matter of weeks, especially once word got out to the people who would want to make it crash and burn just for the laughs or because they have nothing better to do. The whole idea started as a "What if there was a place where everyone was a mod, that everything was voted on by consensus as a group rather than dictated by a small subset of moderators".

The methodology isn't perfect, we're well aware there will be groups who will band together to abuse the rules and mechanics of the systems as they're established. That was figured out Day One, because let's be honest -- there are just too many people who can't act like rational mature adults. So, for those of you already thinking / saying the forum was going to go down in flames: Congratulations, so did everyone involved.

That said, we're not so exclusive that we're going turn people away at the gates just because of where they're coming from to join as members. Like any good experiment, this is a work in progress and we expect things to fail and need to be tweaked and changed as things go along. As Albert Einstein once said "Failure is success in progress", we'd like to see this progress.

Please, if there are any questions about the systems or how they will work, or any questions about the forum methodology in general pop in and ask a question or three. Those with more knowledge than myself will be watching the thread. Welcome, make yourselves at home.

So will this thing crash and burn like the Hindenburg?! Let's find out!

-EDIT-

Can I tweet about this place or do I get a rap on the knuckles for it? Me tweeting about this place will pull all the Xbonitas and Xboners here.

Lash tweeted about it, so I don't see why not.

Sneaky iosefe sneaking in. Or wait a week, I guess. I don't know. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING.

I really like the idea behind the forum, allowing the users to police themselves. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

HOWEVER, I really do hope there are people watching that are aware of certain subsets of users of other popular forums who are "protected", for lack of a better word, that face no consequences for constant derailing of threads and other hostile tactics that serve only to stifle discussion and create bubbles where any dissenting opinions, even ones that only mildly diverge from their own, lead to suspensions or bans or closing of topics.

Without naming names, I'm pretty sure 99% of the people here will know who I'm talking about. It will be very easy for certain groups to gang up on people and shout down anyone they don't agree with if there aren't checks and balances behind the scenes watching the reports.

There's not really going to be a behind the scenes here. Anyone who gets banned will be able to see who warned them, why they were warned -- as will everyone else in the forum. There's not going to any masking dickish actions behind a veil of anonymity. If people start doing hostile things, constantly derailing threads -- people can and should warn / report them and the automated systems will hopefully work as intended and take care of it.

It'll be the same for groups who decide to single out singular opinions and group up to try and abuse the warn / report systems. Everyone else will see who is doing what. I'm sure someone else could explain it better than I could.

Oh nice, okay. So everything is visible to everyone. I like it.

yes, that was the general idea - as much transparency as humanly possible

Yep. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, and I imagine there will be some rough spots with people abusing the system to remove posts or entire threads, or get a member temp banned a few times -- but then everyone else will see it, see who is helping them achieve it and then it's a simple matter of reporting / warning them in kind and the system takes care of it.

The entire forum is founded on the idea that we're all adults and we can act like adults and don't need to be looked after like little children.

Yup, this is based on the idea that the collective good of humanity will prevail over its desire for destruction and evil. Call it a psychology experiment, an epic RPG or a Fast & Furious movie; whatever the case, we're all expecting users to behave and help police those who don't.

Let's hope this works!

It is, but we can all hope for the best and expect the worst. After all, humanity collectively disappoints me everyday already.

i know it's rather "quiet" at the moment ... but hey - we gotta start somewhere, right? ;)
the steam thread should be up today or tomorrow ... still waiting for MRORANGE to give me his blessing on borrowing his BBcode for the thread :p
Everywhere has a start. :)

I already saw a couple of familiar names, and I mentioned the forums to a few others. Hopefully they'll come too.

By the way, lashman, I assume there's no giveaway bot setup, right?
I wanted to do a giveaway for a game that has a news topic.

yeah, there's like half of the old steamThread people in here already :) now we just need the other half, haha

unfortunately not :( there's no xenforo addon that does that (in a non-shitty manner, at least .... 'cause there is literally one giveaway addon but it looks and works like ass ... and also costs $40 ... and doesn't even work the way we need it to since only mods/admins can create giveaways with that thing) ... we might have something in the future if enough people want to use the forum on a regular basis and we manage to crowdfund a programmer who would do something like that ... but yeah, for now there really isn't anything we can do for giveaways that's even remotely close to what Stump's mudbutt did, or even the current giveaway bot :( sorry

Thanks. :)
I assumed so, but I just wanted to confirm. I posted the giveaway on the game's topic, hopefully that will be ok, since I didn't find a topic for giveaways.

Thanks for the warm welcome, lashman.
I'll be sure to check the forums daily. ;)

you can always use the "hide until liked" spoiler ... it basically hides the content until someone "likes" that post (so it obviously won't be visible to anyone who's not registered either) ... so that's always one way to do it, i suppose ;) it's this one:

(oh, and in case you're wondering - "hide until replied" is thread-wide ... so it shows the content when someone replies in that particular thread, not just replies to your post)

oh, and while there really isn't a giveaway thread - we do have a "Deals" one you might want to watch ... contains mostly Schnitzelfee's links for now :p
Deals - Deals, Sales, Bundles... Regret!

Thanks for the warm welcome, lashman.
I'll be sure to check the forums daily. ;)
thanks for joining :) always nice to see cool people in here! :D

Extremely important question - what's the stance here on lactating nekomimi nurse futanari porn?
