More Monster Hunter Tri. Yeah it looks blurry because I'm not even using high resolution stuff in Dolphin (at the moment, some times I do, though this game's blurring/fog/bloom don't seem quite right either way), I tend to emulate stuff at their original res/look. With Monster Hunter World onwards taking a very different direction I hope we get some (indie?) classic Monster Hunter likes soon (when the Souls clones slow down I guess?). This was the pinnacle for me, a grand upgrade from what came before that implied an amazing future which didn't quite materialize as I had hoped...
I actually messed around with Cemu for 3 Ultimate too but I'll just do a short story run of the original as I didn't like the changes enough to consider that a definitive edition. It's sharper, 60fps, vibrant, crisp, with nice character shadows and all of the G rank content (since Tri's online side is defunct also the High rank content which is inaccessible, though I see there's a mod to enable it but it doesn't seem like they got 100% there). But also obviously simplified geometry (due to its 3DS roots), gutted dynamic lighting so caves are brighter by default and torches don't illuminate things and I don't even like the new monster and other designs and overall vibe as much, it's almost like they were trying to make it look more like the then eventual Monster Hunter 4, which is definitely cool on its own but it just doesn't match Tri's original style, imo. Maybe it'd have turned out different if it had been developed normally for Wii but instead they made that weird Portable 3rd as the PSP's last hurrah which reused Tri content but gutted half of it as PSP couldn't handle all the swimming stuff and replaced it with different things and then it took way longer for 3 Ultimate to land on the 3DS.
I'm also still playing Freedom Unite since the Tri run will be super short, in case I need some more Monster Hunting after that. I'm up to 3 star quests in both games, Barroth, Qurupeco, Ludroth and eventually Gobul in Tri, Plesioth, Hermitaur, Congalala and other such stuff in Freedom Unite. Lovely. It was surprisingly easy to adjust back to these games without all the so called quality of life stuff from later games. At first I felt like I could barely heal or sharpen mid battle as the animation of it renders you immobile (vs running/riding away during in the new games) but I've gotten it down since. The farm is really useful in Freedom Unite's early game without having too much meta game time wasting bullshit. It starts worse in Tri with pitiful returns per cultivation round but it also has the boats and trader to help and you can farm basic items (and boss monsters) in Moga forest free runs too.
